Not Losing Any Weight On Lapband Starting To Feel Discouraged
honk replied to Yolanda Swing-banks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you weighing your Protein? My doctor says 3 ounces solid protein per meal. I highly recommend a digital food scale. I am at restrictions and still measure my protein. -

If you can not eat 3 oz of solid protein you are too tight. Being too tight can lead to band slipping go back and get a slight unfill.

I Wish I Had This Stuff Through My Whole Lapband Journey!!!!
honk replied to MrsShannonDennis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Totally an Ad. After reading this I looked it up and did not find any REAL doctors that support it. Also, I read once when you see lots of exclamation points it's usually an Ad and not a real unpaid person. -
Is This A Healing Feeling Or Should I Be Concerned?
honk replied to pbmls223's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Probably nothing the Ipad is not that heavy. -
Did you check whether your specific plan covers the surgery? I only ask because eat employers plan is different.

What is your current calorie intake? I've read people on here who are at 500-600 cals after they are healed. That is just not enough calories to be healthy. I don't see how they are getting all their solid protein AND fruit and veggies in. And if you aren't getting your nutrition from food you would need to get it from suppliments.

Are they perscription Vitamin D? I've been taking over the counter for at least a year. Also keeping in mind I take a multi and my Calcium has added D. Soooo I'm getting a lot of Vitamin D. I also live in NE and unless it's the 4th of July we don't get that much sun.

Surgery Date Is June 6!! Should I Tell Family??
honk replied to Lapband Maggie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am 42 and single. I have not told many friends but did tell my immediate family. I did not tell my brother until after surgery. We get along and everything but we don't call to chat like I do with my sisters. Hey's a boy what can I say. I can't imagine not telling my sisters and mother. I had a stroke at 39 which the doctors could'nt 100% say was because of my weight but they certain inferred it. I had to take a serious step towards fixing my health. -
I have one on the outside of my left thigh and the answer is no.

Huuuuggge difference. When I was about 380 I had gotten to the point where I could barely walk the grocery store. 167 pounds later (69 since surgery) I do 3.5 mile walk daily, and couple days a week do an hour lap swimming or Water aerobics. Highly recommend water based exercise for now. I lost the first hundred changing my diet and lap swimming (7 days a week). If I can walk in front of the high school swim team that practices at my gym wearing a fat lady swim dress; anyone can go swimming. I highly recommend using a snorkle (let's you swim longer because you don't have to worry about breathing) and a water proof MP3 player (available at Amazon). If you don't swim find a water aerobics class. You can ask the instructor how to make the moves easier to start and harder later as you get into shape.

Deb, I feel your pain. I had my surgery scheduled a week away and had to reschedule because my preexisting bloodclot (in the brain) was not completely dissolved. I had to wait another 4 months!!! I was devastated. I did loose another 20 pounds. I also spent that time developing a new relationship with food. That is super important. The surgery will not be magic. It will take a while to get restriction (took me 6 months) and you will be on a will power diet. You can start living like a bandster now. Sure you will be able to eat more than I can but you can choose the same foods. I really try for my carbs to be from veggies and fruits. I don't eat bread, pasta, rice, crackers, chips, not because I can't because they are not worth the calories. Also exercise needs to become a way of life. This isn't high school gym class. Find something you can like. If you need to fake it until you make it that's okay too.

Banded 5/2 And Gaining Weight!
honk replied to Kami172000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Will this is a healing period; you do need to make healthy food choices or you will gain weight. For example you can mix canned tuna/chicken with low fat laughing cow cheese for a LOT less cals and fat than Mayo. Also be sure to weight/measure out protein to your doctor's specs. When you eyeball food servings you are guarenteed to think a serving is less than it actually is. -
Almost 6Mos Post Op And I've Only Lost 15Lbs
honk replied to spoiledbratt97's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In general the more you weight the more it takes to keep the body functioning ie it makes more energy to move around a 300 lb body than a 150 pound body. So if you drastically cut your calorie intake and up the exercise the greater your calorie deficit and the more you should loose. -
That's hilarious!

Some bandster friendly food bargains I saw today. At Costco through Sunday, Chobani fruited yogurt $1.25 off 12 count (.75 which for my areas is a great price). At Demoulas MA/NH grocery chain Pure Protein brand bars (20 g size) 2/1.00.

Low Ferritin And Iron Levels In 'lap Band' Surgery Patients
honk replied to susyq55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have low iron levels. I don't eat red meat either. I take over the counter 65 mg. -
Some of us are just slow losers. I exercise up to 1-2.5 hr's a day and eat very conservatively. Still I loose less than 1lb a week.

I don't get the point of wearing that stuff daily. Special events events maybe.
