Stop Askiing How Much Wieght I Lost
honk replied to hookieluv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are loosing really GREAT!!!! I wish I lost at that pace. I agree with previous poster. I wish I had the guts to ask really personal questions back. I was dieting and exercising preband and had lost about 100 pounds. I had an older woman yesterday ask me how much I had lost. She told me her daughter told her about a girl at the gym who had lost "So much weight". So I told her 170 pounds. They get so excited. Kind of wish the gym had taken before picture, I might have been able to get some money out of this if they used me in Before and After advertising! -
At that calorie level I am concerned you are not geting sufficient nutrition. Are you getting 3 oz of mushie protein per meal? Are you also having mushie veggies or smooth soups? I don't know of any doctors who give fills at 2 weeks more like 4-6. If you have not yet done so get a digital food scale. Makes weighing out your protein so much easier. For breakfast I recommend Greek yogurt which is higher in protein. Protein is what helps keep you full longer. You can use a hand blender if you want to mince up the fruit. During healing I just ate the yogurt. Now that I am able to eat solids I add half a scoop of vanilla protein powder, unflavored benefiber, splendra (Greek Yogurt is sour), 1/3 cup high protein Kashi Go Lean, couple walnuts (yes they have fat but it's a good fat and doctor recommended. And they add protein.).

My protein powder is 24 grams of protein for 120 calories. If you make it with fat free milk you're adding about another 8 grams for 90 calories. Sounds to me like your current product does not have enough protein.

Banded 5.16.2012 And Need A Fill Asap
honk replied to skinny2beEMG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If are supposed to be on solids continue to eat solids. If you haven't purchased a food scale do so. If you are not measuring you are guaranteed to be eating too much. I am at restrictions yet still measure all my protein. Eat 3 ounces of solid protein and then low fat/calorie vegetables until full. Your first fill may not give you restriction, in fact it took me 6 months to get restriction. Again, the band is meant to work with solid food. You cannot survive for ever on liquids. As anyone who lost weight on slimfast will tell you when you go back to solids you will gain weight. -
Well at 10 weeks you are loosing 1.5 lb per week which is well within the expected range (1-2 pounds per week). Some people loose faster than others. I am at restriction and would be really happy to loose 1.5 a week. Don't expect to loose 5 pounds a week like some people on this forum claim it is not realistic.

It can take up to 2 weeks for a fill to take affect. I would make sure to chew well. If you are not using a food scale you should start. Weigh out your protein (3 oz) and then eat low fat/cals veggies until full.

Hate Hate Hate My Band These Days--Need Advice!
honk replied to purple3797's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It does sound like removing some fill will help you. It sounds like the original poster needs to work multiple jobs to keep his/her kids fed. Telling them to work less hours is pretty mean spirited. -
7 Weeks/1 Fill- Always Hungry & Eating Too Much
honk replied to susiedreamer's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Susie, you will never to full on 1/4 of food!!! EVER. You need to get 3 oz of protein per meal. That alone is more than 1/4 cup. Grilled chicken and veggies is fine. Alcohol however is a no. -
Really is not a big deal. As a hint the nurse found it easier to access the port if I did a small crunch. Does not really hurt. Don't watch if you think it will bother you.

Frustrated With Lack Of Weight Loss, Help!
honk replied to BrittanyRose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well your last appointment was a week ago. Most doctors say you can loose 1-2 pounds per week. If you've lost 2 pounds that's really good. You mentioned full liquids. My doctor said full liquids was tomato or squash soup. The Proteins shakes should not have fruit if you are on full liquids. That would be mushies. Yogurt is also a mushie not a full liquid. Protein shakes: What is the serving size of your shakes (how many scoops do they call for?)? Mine says one scoop. Your powder should be about 24 g of protein for less then 120 cals. When adding pudding powder I did 1-2 tablespoons. A whole package seems like a lot. During full liquids I made mine with 3/4 cup fat free milk and 2 "milk cubes" (frozen fat free milk). Lunch- Pudding is not a full liquid it is a mushie and does not have any protein. As I mentioned earlier yogurt is not a liquid but a mushie. Call the doctor's office and ask about the yogurt. If you can have it at this point I recommend Greek yogurt as it has twice the protein and regular yogurt. During Mushie stage I used a hand blender to mince the fruit. I do add splendra since Greek yogurt is sour. I would definately have protein at each meal. Seems like you are having your protein mostly at breafast and dinner. Here is how I ate during liquid phase Breakfast Tomato soup (added Mrs Dash unsalted chicken flavor spice before heating) Wait as long as possible and have a Protein shake, made with milk (no fruit) lunch Smooth soup Tomato or squash, carrot shake Dinner Same During mushies same plan start with soup and then eat the protein mushie later. -

Anyone Take Pill Form Vitamins Right After Surgery??
honk replied to hopingtobebandedsoon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said no vitamins 2 weeks post op. -
Crackers, chip, bread are solids. If you are on mushies do not eat them unless specifically told to by your doctor.

Day After Surgery Question?
honk replied to TexasSoccerMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did a lot of napping day two. I slept on the couch so I had an easier time getting up and down. I would think as long as you feel confident your kid would be able to call 911 and able to communicate with them that would be fine. -
Could It Really Be.... Dun Dun Dun... The Green Zone
honk replied to apreezy1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Are you eating 3 oz of protein every meal? Are you also able to eat at least 1/2 cup veggies? If you can't do these things you are probably too tight. If you can eat a balanced diet on the 800 cals you are probably fine. -
Raw baby carrot (regular carrot sliced is fine. I guess just don't chew it well enough) and cheap doughy white bread (other bread is fine.)

Gained Weight Once I Started Solids
honk replied to Shannon28's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I highly recommend Water based exercise for those with joint issues. I started out with lap swimming since I had horrible knee pain and there was no way I could go walk for exercise. Water proof MP3 player makes time go by so much faster. -
Why are you drinking slimfast? My doctor wants me to be eating my calories. Also slimfast does not have enough protein. Once you stop the slimfast and eat regular foods you will gain weight. Anyone can loose weight on 6-800 cals a day.

Had my gall bladder out after I lost 100 pounds when I was 18. In general the phrase used to describe those likely to have gall bladder problems is Female, Forty, Fat and Fertile. Cut out as much fat from your diet as you can becuase eating foods high in fat causes attacks.

Started Solid Foods And Not Eating So Healthy!!!
honk replied to tanieya's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Best advice I can offer is to buy a food scale and start weighing your protein. My doctor says 3 oz. Then eat raw or steamed veggies until full. This is a will power diet until you get restriction. More than half the battle is choosing healthy foods. If I would be embarrased for my doctor (or his PA) to see me eating something I don't buy it! -
Help: Does Weight Loss Just Happen?
honk replied to supportRO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would'nt say the weight is falling off. I am a slow looser, less then 1 lb a week. I try to stay below 1200 cals a day; and do between 90-120 minutes of cardio a day. I am at restriction. Pre-Op I lost a total of 100 pounds, post op 70, and have about 60 left to go. I'm at restriction. I'm not trying to be a downer. This needs to be a major life change in exercise and food choices. -
The band does nothing for you until you get fills. Took me 6 months of fills to get restriction. You should be able to eat 1 cup of food. Regardless what some people say on this site adults eat more than 2-3 bites of food per meal.

No to carbonation.

I agree about removing unhealthy foods from your home. If they aren't there you can't eat them. I drank diet soda right up to surgery and haven't had any problems giving it up after surgery. Start making good food habits buy shopping the outer edge of the grocery store; that tends to be where the healthiest food is kept.
