Clothes Are Loose But Scale Is Not Moving
honk replied to Ashleigh Childress's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know this probably is not the answer you would like but I think you need to up your exercise. I am a slow loser despite exercising 7 days a week for 1.5-2.5 hours. I try to mix it up walking in the morning and swimming/water aerobics in the evening. -

Benefits Of A Post Workout Meal / Snack?
honk replied to angieband's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Shap, I normally exercise right before eating dinner so I am not having a post work out protein in addition to my meals. Conventional knowledge is to have carbs prework out so your body has ready available energy for the work out, and protein post work out so your body can rebuild muscle. -
I find the less salty my food choices the easier it is for me not to drink during meals.

Call you insurance they will let you know what their requirements are.

Gaining Weight On My Preop Diet!!?? Help
honk replied to banditalovely's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would recommend having a protein based breakfast and cutting out the snack. You are basically eating two breakfasts. For breakfast I would recommend Greek yogurt (with or with out fruit), with half a scoop of vanilla Whey isolate protein powder (I add splendra since Greek yogurt is sour). For lunch and dinner have 3-4 oz of solid protein and low fat/cal veggies. I think your lunch protein is too low and your dinner protein is too high. -
My doctor never gave me a measurement for veggies but did say 3 oz of solid protein.

7cc in 10cc band, THREE FILLS & still NO RESTRICTION??
honk replied to drewsmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a 11 cc band did not get restriction until 10.6. Are you weighing your protein? My doctor says 3 oz. If you are not getting enough protein that will stall your loss and make you feel hungry. I have greek yogurt for breakfast and add half a scoop of vanilla isolate to up the protein (add splendra since Greek yogurt is sour). -
Is This Really Working?
honk replied to Bamabander's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds to me like your progression is too fast for your body. I was on cottage cheese at 3 weeks out. I was not allowed solids until week 5. I would scale back to mushies like canned chicken/tuna (I mixed them with low fat laughing cow cheese. -
I was allowed broth/stock the first week and thin protein shakes
-
My port was also quite deep. As I've lost weight it is closer to the surface. My office has me do a small crunch which helps to make the port more accessable. Might want to try that next time. The upside is hopefully your port won't stick out when you get to goal.

Soft And Mushy Foods
honk replied to ☠carolinagirl☠'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My mushies were divided into two sections. Week three was greek yogurt (used hand blender to mince the fruit, and added fat free milk to thin it out) and low fat/cal cottage or ricotta. Week four was canned chicken or tuna. I mixed those with low fat laughing cow cheese, much better than mayo. For chicken and tuna my doctor said to weight them out to 3 oz. -
For ready to drink Premier Brand is very good (they do adverstise on this site). You can buy them at Costco/Sam's. I gave my adult nephew one, telling him they tasted like chocolate milk. His reply "I think you've forgotten what chocolate milk is supposed to taste like" Smart aleck. Anyway many people on this site recommend them. Muscle Milk light is also okay. Just make sure to get the light version, regular is wayyyy to high in calories.

You Don't Need Surgery...
honk replied to justathing2me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Prior to my consul I had lost 50 pounds. From consult to surgery I lost another 50. I had a sister ask me did I think I needed surgery and I told her absolutely. I know that I will gain it back without help. I lost a lot of weight at 13 and about a hundred at 18 and then at 30. I always came back so I need some help. If someone's doctor told them without a pace maker they would die; no one would tell them to just suck it up and pray themselves well. -
My doctor's office is at the hospital. I've never had a fill using Fluro.

When I commented to my doctor about having to give up regular coffee he said "Why?" I have one cup regular coffee in the morning and then switch to decaf. I do drink it black with splendra. I would say most doctors are concerned that you will add cream and sugar. I read an article where this guy after starting a new job gained like 30 pounds. He called his friend a Nutritionist and asked for some help. She told him to journal his food for a week and send it to her. She noticed he was drinking like 5 cups of coffee with cream and sugar daily. His new job had free coffee!!!!! Once he stopped the coffee he lost the weight.

Please don't regret having surgery. I am probably being alarmist but blood clots are not something to mess around with. I had a brutal headache for 2 days and never for a moment considered going to the hospital (over the weekend). Was'nt until day 3 when I woke up and my right arm was numb and my mouth was slanted that I knew something was desprately wrong. It bothers me when surgeons brush off leg pain after surgery. Makes me wonder if they just don't want to go to the hospital to meet you.

Slimming Body Suits After Surgery
honk replied to didixo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say no. Please don't think I'm being mean sprited. I don't really see the point. We needed weight loss surgery for a reason. A spanx doesn't hide the fact that someone is overweight. I even saw a study recently that said wearing compression garmets/tight clothes daily can lead to nerve damage. Just does'nt seem worth it to me. -
5 Days Post Op And Miserable Help
honk replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on clears for 7 days and then full liquids for 7 days; so I agree with previous posters your doctors progression is really fast. You body just might need more time. Broth is sucky so you might want to try a smooth soup (tomato, etc, cream soups are higher in fat/cals). I would add Mrs Dash before heating to up the flavor. -
Can't Sleep...24 Hours Post Op
honk replied to wannabethin2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did they tell you not to walk at all? If so I've never heard that one. Most tell you to walk around to move the gas. Activity will also help you sleep. I felt most comfortable sleeping on the couch. -
When possible plan your meals and bring it with you. When I failed to do that I would have to eat at the company cafe which meant I would get higher cal meals because that's all they had (even their "healthier options" had more fat/cals than I wanted.) If you must go to a fast food place look for options that are healthier: chili from Wendy's (they also now have baked sweet potato skip the cinamon butter though), grilled chicken (order sandwhich no mayo eat chicken and lettuce/tomato), KFC has a nice grilled chicken breast (have corn on the cob and green Beans for sides).

Me I would go to the emergency room RIGHT NOW!!! Then again I had a stroke from a blood clot when I was 39.
-
I find if I have a glass of water before eating I am fine. Also if you choose less salty foods that also helps. I don't chew my food to liquids I just chew in general. I think many of us were used to not really chewing at all.

I don't remember exactly when I started eating lettuce but I did not have solids until I was 5 weeks out. I used to have a chicken sandwich made with a Romain lettuce leafs every day for lunch. I would spread low fat laughing cow cheese down the spine, add chicken, mustard, roll the sides over and enjoy!
