Am I Stuck Or Too Tight??
honk replied to pibble11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Many people at restriction can not eat solids at breakfast. I have the following: Chobani Greek yoburt with fruit 0/2% depedending on the flavor, 2 tsp benefiber, 1/2 scoop vanilla whey isolate Protein powder, splendra to taste mix these together; then add1/3 cup Kashi Go Lean high protein Cereal, and if you want a couple walnuts (they are a good fat and do have protein). I mix this in the single serving cup to prevent me from adding to much cereal or nuts. Kind of makes for a mushie/solid. High in protein and I can go 4 hours plus. If you PB on this you are too tight. My band is tighter in the morning than it is at night. I make sure to weigh my protein and not have seconds. I fill the void with low fat/cal veggies. If you are indeed to tight getting a very small unfill is the best course of action. People who fall back on Protein shakes or mushies long term GAIN weight. The band is meant to work with solids. -
Yes, totally normal. I am however concerned that you are PBing a lot. If you can not comfortably eat 3 oz of solid protein and veggies you are too tight. Too tight can lead to band failures like slipping. Even if it means loosing slower it would be better to get a small unfill than to chance band slipping.

No those would be solids. Oysters you swallow whole which I think could be a disaster even without restriction. If they had crabcake that you could mush up with a fork that might work. You may need to bring your own food in a discrete container. If you are at a table with people who don't know about the lap bad; say you had hietal hernia surgery and you are on a restricted diet.
-
Please remember the band is not meant to prevent you from eating anything. It's to help you eat less of things. You will still need will power to turn down cake, ice cream, or even pizza.
-
Took me 6 months to get restriction. If you have not done so get a food scale. Measure out your solid protein to 3 oz. Some doctors say to then eat 1/2-3/4 cup low fat/cal veggies. My doctor said to eat veggies until full. Yes this is Bandster Hell. Just because you can eat more does'nt mean you should.

Liquid Vitamins- Best Tasting & Where To Buy??
honk replied to mariamaria1070's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor says to do chewables. He recommends Flintstones with Choline and caltrate plus D chewables. I buy the costco brand of the multi for much cheaper. I get a large bottle of of the caltrate at Walmart. -
Trying To Get Back On The Losing Bus! Help!
honk replied to jjenkins2411's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There is the "5 day pouch test" which some say helps reboot the pouch. I would say to visit your doctor. How many CC's are in your band? If the band is full you may need to empty it and restart the fills. If the band is not full I would try a fill and see if that helps you any. Even though I am at restriction, if I am at home I always weight out 3 oz of Protein. I then eat mostly low fat/cal veggies and then some fruit until full. You can start following the band "diet" even before seeing your doctor. Boils down to just because you CAN eat more than 3 oz protein, it does'nt mean you SHOULD. How are your food choices? It's not just how much but what you eat. If neccesary go back to the basics, skinless chicken breast instead of fried chicken, burgers, pizza. Are you exercising? Most doctors say at least 30 minutes cardio daily. -
Remember people who are stressed out from complications are more likely to come on here to talk about them than people who are doing well. Almost 2 years out knock on wood I've never had a PB or vomitted. I've had a couple stuck episodes: cheap white bread and raw baby carrots. If your band slips you will have trouble keeping down liquids. But remember not everyone has slips.

I was still on full liquids day 11; stayed on full liquids until day 15. It's possible your personal biology needs more time on liquids. Canned fish was a mushie for me but I did not get that until day 22. Days 15-21 were soft mushies yogurt, low fat/cal cottage or ricotta.

I've gone to chipolte's, I just get the meat and veggies with no wrap or rice. If it is actually pretty low in calories and fat as long as you eat appropriately.

You lost an enormous amount 3 weeks. I do often weighed myself daily, but if I eat something really salty the day before I don't bother. I know I will have gained water weight overnight. The issue with weighing yourself daily is knowing what is actual weight and what is just water weight. If I've gained two pounds overnight I ask myself could I have eaten 7000 extra calories yesterday. If not it's probably water weight

My doctor says 24 hours full liquid then 24 hours mushies. If you are having solid that could be your problem. I would recommend eating mushys today Saturday and trying solid on Sunday.

Whats The Workout To Loose Weight Faster?
honk replied to s0utherndivadoll's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I bought the speedo version. They use to have a 1 megabyte and 2 megabyte version. Personally I would go with the 1 megabyte it takes me a week or more before my music repeats. I would google to see if you can find a discount coupon that you can use on the speedo website. See which is cheaper speedo directly or amazon. If the headset goes you can buy aftermarket waterproof headphones. I have no connection with speedo for amazon. -

I would rather spend the 80-100 Cal's on more chicken or cheese in a Mexican food adventure.

I think the machinery for this was invented at UMass Medical. I saw news stories on it when it first came out. My understanding is that it can remove 1/4 pound of fat (think a stick of butter). Do I think it works? Yes. If you were at goal and had a small tummy bulge this might fix that problem. I really don't think it's mean to deal with larger amounts like regular lypo.

How Much Restriction Is Enough And What Are The Risks?
honk replied to Maddy1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think the biggest thing to remember is that the band is literally connected to living tissue. And living tissue whose main function is moving around and twisting. My restriction does change depending on the TOM, weather, stress. Most doctors say that at restriction you may not be able to eat solids at Breakfast. If you are having trouble eating solids at breakfast (and it is super early before work) that does'nt shock me. I have Greek yogurt with half a scoop whey isolate and 1/3 cup Kashi Go lean high Protein Cereal and some walnuts for breakfast. The Protein powder and cruncies make for a very thick mushie. I do have a cup of coffee before to loosen things up. As the day goes by my band does get looser. I would strive for being able to eat solid protein at lunch (3 oz) and about 1/2 cup veggies and then some fruit (couple grapes or cherries). If you can go 4.5-5 hours before being hungry you are at restriction. Then at dinner measure out your food and don't eat anymore even if you feel you are hungry. Though if you are at restriction you probably really wont be physically hungry; more of a head hunger. Some people do keep their bands WAY to tight. Can't tell you how many times I've read "I need a fill because I can still eat bread!" I'm at restriction and can eat bread. I just choose not to. Some of this is still about will power. Thin people like to eat junk food. They choose not to. -
I can eat pasta, rice, bread, and salad. I just don't like pasta and rice enough to eat them. Bread I don't eat because of the calories. If I am at a dinner party and there is nice/high quality bread I will eat it. I've only had problems with low quality restaurant rolls.

I was allergic to the adhesive on the tape used to section off the surgical field. I had horrible welts. Other than the port was the most annoying painful part of surgery. I had no gas pains. Had to use topical gels to reduce the swelling.

Whats The Workout To Loose Weight Faster?
honk replied to s0utherndivadoll's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Cardio burns cals and thus fat. I try to mix up my workouts. I live in the country and have a nice circuit that I can walk 3-3.5 miles. I also do lap swimming and water aerobics; which are GREAT for heavier people because it's easy on the joints. Highly recommend water proof MP3 player makes time go by much faster. Elliptical machines are also good for people with joint issues. I also hate to run/jog. Have never been able to run even as a kid. Only time you are likely to see me running is away from a dinosaur. -
Do You Eat Back Any Of Your Exercise Calories?
honk replied to Carolinacrumb's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I try to eat my meals after exercising. This way I don't have the slippery slope of eating to much of a post work out "snack". Esp. for bandsters it's a thin line between a snack and a bandster size meal. Of topic I highly recommend using a Water proof MP3 player for lap swimming. Makes time go by sooo much faster. I also use it when I'm doing water aerobics on my own (not during real classes). Take a look on Amazon. -
My doctor Never ever said to measure foods by volume. He says to weigh 3 oz of protein. 3 oz of volumn is just over 1/4 a cup. 3 oz of chicken breast is a lot more than 1/4 of a cup. I was never told to eat a certain amount of veggies. More or less told to eat the protein and then low fat/cals veggies until full. Some doctors do say 1/2-3/4 cup veggies in addition to protein.
