My doctor does'nt think drinking is a good idea because it is just pure sugar. If you are on a serious diet would you have a 500 cal plus dessert multiple times a month on top of your other meals?

Asking My Doc Tomorrow
honk replied to eeyoregirl1970's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Def. call your insurance. They will either cover bariatrics or they won't. While each BCBS policy is differnt (depends on what your employer wrote into the policy); I had a very good process with BCBS Anthem NY PPO. -
I would use your nervous energy in a constructive way. Start researching Protein powders (My doctor wants whey isolate; not all whey Proteins are created equal.)Ask you doctor the nutritional requirements and then run searches on this site for what brands people recommen. There are MANY postings about that. There are also many "recipes" for shakes using sugar free syrups and fat/sugar free pudding powder. I bought a super convenient single serving blender by Hamilton Beach $15 at Walmart/target). Mixes in a travel cup so very portable. Excellent on ice.

Can I Get Banded At 5'4 195 Lbs ?
honk replied to adkpugmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Many thin people have back issues. I doubt you will get approved at your weight. And I don't think they will take your families health issues into account. My doctor wants me to do at least 30 minutes of cardio 7 days a week. For now I would try that part of the lap band journey and see if you loose weight. Also I've cut out fried foods and more or less all refined carbs (breads, crackers, candy, cake, Cookies, soda, ice cream), I've don't eat hamburgers (on a regular basis), pizza, or fries. I eat mostly skinless chicken breast (not fried, no breading) and low fat/cal veggies. If you follow these rules you will probably loose weight without having surgery. -
6 Month Supervised Diet
honk replied to jessicarage's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the opposite situation. My doctor required that I loose 10% body weight before surgery my insurance had no requirements (ie 6 month diet etc). -
Calcium Carbonate v Calcium Citrate
honk replied to RestlessMonkey's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I take Caltrate Plus D chewables (Calcium Citrate). Most of my vitamins are chewable which makes it more like a treat. Flintstone chewables with choline (Costco brand), Caltrate plus (2), vitafusion fiber gummies, vitafusion vitamin D gummies. If you are taking an Iron supliment make sure to wait an hour before taking the Calcium they interfere with each other. -
Nothing pre fill; after 24 hours full liquids, and then 24 hrs mushies.

When I lost over 100 pouns when I turned thirty I had bags, bags, and bags of clothes to give away. At that point in my career I had soooo many suits (worked in a business environment). I gave it to my mother who worked in social services; she knew people who needed interview clothes. This time around I've been working in business casual environments; plus the year before surgery I was working from home so I had not bought new clothes in a long time. Thus why some of my clothes had met the end of their life cycle.

Just Had My Gallbladder Removed! Ouch!
honk replied to smellslikecoffee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor will not do both at the same time. This pain is nothing compared to bad gall bladder attackes TRUST ME. I had mine out at 19 after loosing a hundred pounds. Mine was done as a open surgery so I have about a 5 inch scar; which by the way is much more noticeabe than my port scar. -
No Food For Two Weeks After Surgery?
honk replied to akurre12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had 1 week clear liquids (plus Protein shakes) and then 1 week full liquids (plus protein shakes). I was not allowed thin mushies (yogurt) until week 3. I would recommend whey isolate Protein shakes. They are much higher in protein than CIB. Premier brand from costco and Sams is very good. Muscle Milk light is also a good premade (make sure to get light though). As to smooth Soups have you tried tomato or sweet red pepper. I used to add Mrs. Dash non salt flavorings to te Soup before heating to up the flavor. -
What Can I Expect After The Band????
honk replied to allik07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have one pancake a week. I do put a small amount of butter and regular syrup (low sugar stuff sucks). If I am going to have a treat. I have a treat. It is however my bread for the week. If I go to a mexican place (pretty rare) I have chicken fajita's no wrap. I have'nt been to chinese in about a year. Again if I'm having chinese I consider it a "cheat day" and enjoy myself. I'm at restriction so I can't eat like I used to anyway. -
I agree about looking at your food choices. For full liquids choice a tomato vs a cream Soup. When you get to mushies mix the tuna with low fat laughing cow instead of mayo. No fruit juice. When making Protein shakes during this time don't add fruit or Peanut Butter (yes PB has protein but not that much considering the levels' of fat. Many people gain weight from the fluids injected during surgery; and it takes a while for that to go away.

I Feel Like I'm Starving!!! Help Fellow Bansters
honk commented on saramatos11's blog entry in saramatos11's Blog
What kinds of protein are you eating. If you are supposed to be on solids protein shakes are a bad idea because they slide right through the pouch and don't stick around to give you that full feeling. I personally eat chicken as my primary protein. A canned chicken won't keep you as full as baked chicken. Beef also takes longer to digest so will keep you full longer. This is bandster hell. My doctor does'nt really believe in snacks and says to white knuckle it. If you were to have a snack I would shoot for a something like an oz of chicken breast, low fat cheese stick or maybe low fat cottage cheese. -
If you are on solids I would look for a high Protein food to eat as a base. If you are supposed to bring something to a party bring something you can eat. For filling the void look for veggies and dip and eat mostly veggies no dip. Admittedly I don't go to the many parties but since I try to live the 90/10 lifestyle; I have the party be the 10%. For restaurants I try for fajitas, no tortilla. I do have the cheese and salsa, and Guacamole if it's free (not much off a sour cream fan. I don't eat out for dinner very often so I've been known to occationally have a cheeseburger no bun, and baked potato (have'nt had one in a while so probably could'nt eat it all). I do have brunch once a week: egg whites, turkey bacon and one small pancake (my bread for the week.)

Unless your clothes are couture and you can sell them for a lot of money consignment give them to goodwill/salvation army. I found that 20% of my clothes really needed to go to the dump anyway.
-
I really don't have an issue with this. I drink a large glass of water right before eating. The less salty your food choices the easier it is to not drink while eating.
-
I am not a doctor but I disagree with the advice you were giving. During bandster hell you will be hungry and if you don't know how much you are eating you don't know if you are physically hungry or not. My doctor says to eat 3 oz of solid protein at lunch and dinner; and then eat low fat/cal veggies until full. Food scales can be found for $20 at Walmart/Target.

Please Help!!!! Frustrated And Angry!
honk replied to Mrs. 2012 Banded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you need to start measuring your food. Just because you can eat lots of healthy foods does'nt mean you should. My doctor says to weigh 3 oz of solid Protein, and then eat low fat/cal veggies until full. You'd be suprised how little 3 oz looks on the plate! Some people can loose weight by just eating less of all foods. The rest of us have to severly restrict the foods we choose: baked chicken no skin or any kind of crumb topping, low fat cheese, fat free yogurt. Never weight yourself after you've put any food or drink in your body! You will always weight more! You mentioned going to the gym. How many days and how long? Most doctors wants at least 30 minutes daily. You are loosing at ann acceptable rate. I loose less than 1 lb a week and do 1.5-2.5 hours moderate cardio 7 days a week; and stay under 1200 cals a day. -
You could try papaya pills (chewable), this may help disolve what is stuck.
-
When was your fill are you supposed to still be on liquids or mushies? If you're fill was more than 2 days ago and you are supposed to be on solids and you cannot eat solids by 12 o'clock noon you are too tight. Some people at restrictions can not eat solids until noon.
-
In the future I would try to bring a low fat protein based dish as your contribution to the meal. This way you can get your protein in and have a good base before moving on the higher calorie/fattie foods.

Olives are high in fat and they are very high in salt. Personally I wouldn't bother with them.

I don't really have a professional/medical answer. My surgeon wanted me to go on the HMR 500 diet. This is a 500 calories liquid diet; which some people do for MONTHS. I ask him would'nt I go into starvation mode since I do over an hour of cardio daily. His reply " You have a lot of fat to burn". Did'nt really sound like an answer to me. I tried the shakes for about 6 days. Lost NOTHING and they gave me an tingling/allergy type feeling in the back of my throat. I talked to the nurse and stopped drinking them. Neither the nurse or the Nut. liked that diet.

Protein Vs. Calories Vs. Fat Vs. Carbs
honk replied to Missy05.29.12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't really track things either but I do eat low fat protein (mostly chicken no skin); I don't eat any pasta, rice, processed carbs (I do have high protein Kashi Go Lean in my morning yogurt (1/3 cup). I don't eat any desserts (candy, cake, ice cream, cookies) or breads, crackers. I do eat fruit my doctor considers natural carbs from fruit to be different from a refined carb. I have 0-2% yogurt and maybe 1-2 oz low fat cheese daily. I find not eating the refined carbs also keeps my fat level down. Woopie pies how I miss you!
