I agree she is an adult and you can't/should'nt deal with her like she's a child. If you gave a co-worker the lap band speech once you would then move on if they said it wasn't for them. I would keep all junk food out of your house and lead by example.

I highly recommend you buy a food scale. My doctor says to weight out 3 oz of solid protein. This will help you to control you portions. I still measure out my protein lunch and dinner even though I am at restriction.

He's going to have to do all the tests and doctor's appointments you and everyone else does. What makes you think he won't?

I did loose quite a bit the first six months. I would take biotin 5,000 mg (size of tick tack) as soon as you are allowed to restart taking vitamins. For me it was 2 weeks post op.

What Is The Mimimum Bmi Requirement To Be Eligible For Private Gastric Band Surgery? Is It 28 (As I've Heard) If There Are Other Comorbidities?

Nellie, are you here in the US? Your phrasing makes me wonder if you are UK based. FDA requirements are of course for the US only. -

I believe the FDA has approved down to 30 but most insurance will not pay below 35. If you are self pay it would be what your surgeon says is the cut off point. -
Turtle has your Iron levels been checked? Anemia can be very bad if left untreated. Sandra, Please do not add fruit to your diet until you doctor approves!!! You can do damage to your stomach at this point. My doctor allowed me smooth Soups starting day 8. I really enjoyed Pacific brand tomato/sweet red pepper Soup. I added Mrs. Dash unsalted flavorings before heating to up the taste.

I am at restriction and can eat more or less whatever I want. I choose to eat healther foods. I have one pancake a week, but I do eat 2 egg whites and 2 slices turkey bacon first. And I do an hour plus of cardio first. I can eat waffles I just don't. I can eat Pasta, rice, tortillas I just don't because they are high in carbs. The band is not meant to prevent you from enjoying food. Food is enjoyable; I think it was created to be enjoyable. Part of this journey is mental and you have to make good food options.

Once I was healed I was told to stop drinking Protein shakes. The band is meant to work with solids not liquids. Excluding the 24 hours after a fill. If you can't eat solids at Breakfast I highly recommend Greek yogurt with a half scoop Protein powder (and splendra to taste). I also recommend measuring lunch and dinner protein to 3 oz. You will be amazed how little that is; if you don't measure you will over eat. Proein shakes can be very high in calories it really depends on the brand.

My doctor said 2 weeks. I would'nt want to risk infection (you may think you're healed but who knows) at a public pool. Yes it's only two days but I would wait the two days. Highly recommend Water proof MP3 player. I use it for both lap swimming and water aerobics (not during classes).

I would ask the insurance company for all the documents/test results they need. I would then go to each doctor who has those documents and ask for a copy. You may need to pay for them. Make your own copies. Find out to whom these documents need to be sent and send them yourself certified mail. You will then have proof they were delivered. Yes I know your surgeon's office has someone who is paid to do this. Either this person is not doing their job or the insurance company is not doing theirs (ie loosing your information). If you remove one variable you will know the problem lies with the insurance company.

I had to give written permission for them to tape the surgery. They are a teaching hospital so I'm sure they use it to teach the surgery. It did guarentee that my face and/or name would not be used to identify the surgery.

Green Zone But Throwing Up.....
honk replied to Boniluuu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It can take up to two weeks for fill to take effect. Sounds like you need a small unfil. -
I agree huge difference between 100 calories of fruit and 100 of chocolate cake. My Nurse Practioner said I should eat fruit 3 times a day. I don't bother at breakfast since I do choose Greek yogurt with fuit added (though admittedly it doesn't contain a lot. I find the healthier I eat (cutting out refined carbs, candy, cake) the more I enjoy plain fruit.

6Days Post Po And Starving
honk replied to ambertuttle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please follow your doctors orders! You can do damage eating solids to soon. Eat more of your allowed foods instead of solids. I asked if I could move to mushies 3 days earlier. Their answer? "Absolutely NOT!" Remember people who tell you "My doctor let me have mushies day 3." Won't be there in the doctor's office with you if your band slips and the doctor says "Why on earth did you eat solids when I told you not to?" Yes post op diet sucks! But it will pass. -
How Long Following The First Consultation Can I Expect To Have Surgery?
honk replied to taketimetofind's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would call your insurance and ask that the specifics of their requirements. You are your own health care proxy. Make sure you know exactly what your insurance covers and whether they have a diet period (some are six months). Every insurance policy is different; depending on what your company chose to cover. My insurance had not diet period. My doctor however had quite a few requirements. 1) Consult: 1 hr meetings with Nurse Practitioner, Psychologist, Nutritionist. Was told I had to loose 35 pounds before surgery. I met that requirement in 3 months. More on that later. 2) Had to provide records that I'd had my yearly Mammogram, Pap Smear, Cardio Ultrasound, Yearly Physical. 3) 3 group sessions with a Eating Disorder Psychologist (EDP). If your doctor does not require meeting with a EAP; go on your own!!! So much of this journey/battle is mental. You need to understand why you overeat and what foods trigger your overeating. 4) Several follow up meetings with the Nurse Practioner and one with surgeon to track weight loss. 5) Preop meeting with anesthesiologist. 6) Preop meeting to discuss "diet" for the month post op (liquids to mushies to solids). I lost my 35 pounds but had a blood clot in the brain that had not completely disolves. My surgery had to be postponed another 4 months. I did end up loosing a total of 50 pounds preop. -
Knee Replacements, Super Obesity And Exercise, ?'s
honk replied to meyouus's topic in Fitness & Exercise
For the Y I would contact them and see if they have a special program for low income people. The Y I used to go to was about 30 a month. At 38 I had knee pain that was so bad I could barely do grocery shopping. I went to a knee surgeon who in a not very polite way said that I was too young for a knee replacement and that the pain would not go away until I lost weight. So I embarked on an attempt to loose weight. I joined a gym and did lap swimming. Really the only exercise I could do. I can't do recumbant bike bad angle for my knee. In order to swim longer I use a snorkle/goggles/ and a Water proof mp3 player. By modifying diet and swimming 7 days a week I lost about 30 pounds (starting weight 365). This did not prevent me from having a stroke however at 39. Prior to lap band, again with diet and swimming I lost another 50 pounds. Post op I've lost another 70. The difference in my knee is like night and day. I now do about a 3.5 mile walk daily plus an hour swimming/water aerobics. -
If you are'nt hungry I would let it go. One day of low protein is not that bad.

First Day Back At Work. Lunch Packed.

How long have you been on solids. 2 weeks is a very quick progression. Have you been eating solids or is tomorrow the first day. At two weeks I was only on yogurt. -
Stupidest Question Ever???!!!!
honk replied to jflo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A popsicle with real fruit/juice in it can not be sugar free; since they contain natural sugar. They can be called no sugar added. Something with artificle flavorings can be sugar free. -
Shopping For Smaller Clothes...thrift Stores!!!
honk replied to rayanne's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I bought two current style suit jackets for job interviews, $7 each. I've had less success with casual clothes. I've seen target/walmart t shirts clearly used for the price I would pay new so I have'nt bothered. -
When Will I Start To Fill Some Restriction???
honk replied to abusta's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Took me 6 months of fills before I got restiction. If you have not yet done so buy a digital food scale so you can measure your food. It is easy to over eat if you don't. -
My only regret is I did'nt do it sooner. I may not have had a stroke at 39; or been laid off from a great job. My boss is a bigot towards fat people and I KNOW I was chosed for the lay off because of my weight.
-
If you employer is providing your health insurance preexisting conditions are usually not a problem. More of an issue is if your company insurance covers bariatrics. If they don't you will have to pay for fills on your own.

Do Fills Cause Complications?
honk replied to JanellesMommy8210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think you can get a slip with no fills. Before fills the band is just sitting on the outside of the stomach doing nothing. I do think having a too tight band will lead to complications.
