I guess I'm confused by the statment I don't have any restriction but have a full feeling . That is the start of restriction. Restriction does not mean the band STOPS you from eating certain foods. Don't plan on that! As you get MORE restriction follow your doctors postfill orders. It will be REALLY important later on. My doctor says 24 hours of full liquids then 24 hours mushies. When you have more fill adding mushies too early will lead to PB incidents which will be bad for you. Have more of the foods you are allowed rather than adding foods you are not allowed.

Alcohol Two And A Half Weeks After Surgery?
honk replied to Carpe Diem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay I don't drink. Really, ever. Never been a drinker. I come from a family of alcohoics so that is probably a good thing. The way I look at it if someone told you they had a candy bar a day or 1 hot fudge sunday a week and in the next breath said I had weight loss sugery and I'm really working on my weight; would you take them seriously? Not much different than having 1 + drinks a night or 3-4 on the Weekend. To be fair I also thought my boss who bragged about her super healthy vegan Soup with 35 calories but who secretly ate Cookies at the company store was wrong too. -
Allergic Reaction To Protein
honk replied to Rosario_35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
FYI I saw on Drugstore.com a Protein powder made with goats milk. Have not tried it so can't comment on the flavor. I agree you could be allergic to that brand. whey is found in milk. If you can drink milk you are probably not allergic to whey. I am not a doctor just my thoughts. I would go to Vitamin Shoppe or GNC and see if they will let you exchange Protein Powder if you have a problem with it. If so buy protein powder from one of those places. FYI not all Whey protein is the same. Isolate is a better type of whey protein for you (purer). -
How much food are you actually eating? My doctor says 3 oz solid potein plus low fat/cals/carbs veggies. How long can you go after eating before feeling hungry? Is it less than 4.5-5 hrs? If it is you need more fill. It can take up to 2 weeks for a fill to take affect. Before true restriction you get some restriction with a fill but it can go away a couple days after the fill. Food choices this is a big one. Sorry but the wheat thins and fries have to go. There are about 120 cals in about 10 wheat thins. Trust me that's not a lot of crackers. People normally underestimate the amounts they are eating. As mentioned earlier your exercise habits are another important aspect. My doctor says at least 30 minutes a day 7 days a week. I am at restriction, exercise 1.5-2.5 hrs 7 days a week, eat less than 1200 and lose less than 1 lb a week.

Dizziness And Passing Out
honk replied to bluetigereyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are not eating enough! You need to be eating 3 oz of solid Protein PLUS veggies lunch and dinner. You are NOT doing that on 3 bites!!!! When I was 19 I lost over a hundred pounds. I was in college and would eat lunch at 11; go to class all afternoon went directly to my on campus job (cleaning the library) and have dinner at 9:30. I remember getting tunnel vision and dizzy spells. I know this sounds rude but I am going to say it anyway. I was 19, need I say more! You need to deal with this issue. You can be a danger to others in this state!!! Whatever you don't drive! -
Sorry, little confused. Are you saying you can eat but are still having the pain? It does sound like you had a bad stuck episode.

When Did You Start Full Solids?
honk replied to MissErni31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1) 7 days clear liquids and protein shakes 2) 7 days full liquids (tomato soup) and protein shakes 3) 7 days smooth mushies (yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta) 4) 7 days firm mushies (canned chicken/tuna, egg whites 5 Solids (Hurray!!!!!) -
Another thing doctors worry about with coffee is all the calories you can add from milk, syrups, and sugar. I have one cup with caffein black with Splendra in the morning. The rest of the day I switch to decaf.

To Fill Or Not To Fill? Experienced Bandsters Please Chime In...
honk replied to OldMomOf3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did your doctor put any fill in during surgery? At four weeks I was on firm mushies (canned chicken, tuna) and NEVER PB'd or vomitted. If anything it sounds like you are too tight, thus my comment about a surgery fill. My doctor would not give you a fill if you are having stuck episodes on mushies. You need to be able to eat 3 oz of solid Protein plus veggies. Not terribly suprised you've had a weight loss slow down; that happens as you progress your diet. Some of us loose slowly; so don't expect to loose 2+ pounds a week all the time. I am at restriction and don't loose that much. -
Speak with YOUR doctor. His/Her opinion is all that matters not what I or anyone else on this board has to say. I can tell you that I was on clears for 7 days then 7 days full liquids. Full Liquids were smooth Soups (tomato, squash) not blended chicken noodle etc. Grits/oatmeal are a mushie not a liquid. FYI I was scheduled to go to mushies on day 15. My first follow up was on day 12. I asked if I could move to mushies early. The answer "ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!" Not what I wanted to hear. I would recommend spacing out your foods. broth first wait as long as possible and then the Protein shake. If necc. have more servings of the foods you are allowed instead of adding unauthorized items.

Day four I went back to the gym and did about 45 minutes on the treadmil. Day 3 seems a little early to be walking that far.

My doctor doesn't do fills at all. The Nurse Practioners do them and they are VERY good. One time I think I needed to be stuck twice. I have bleed through the bandaid. One time I had a bruise because they had to twirl the needle around looking for the opening in the port. My office does not use numbing agent. Personally I don't think it hurts.

I have lost 170 lbs and my bosom isn't going anywhere! I was a 52DD and am now a 40DD. For a fat chick I have a narrow trunk and there are shirts that I could clearly take a smaller size if I have smaller chest.

Eating Food One Week After Surgery
honk replied to Carpe Diem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"Eat" more of the foods you are allowed. DO NOT EAT MUSHIES OR SOLIDS EARLY. I asked if I could move to mushies 3 days early (post op day 11). The NP said "Absolutely NOT!!" -

When Did They Notice?
honk replied to texas-bandette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think this is a hard topic esp. for coworkers. If they don't comment on your weight gain they may not comment on weight loss. They don't want to come across as inferring "Ya know you were fat before and you've lost a little". I met a former coworker for lunch after surgery. I had lost about 70 pounds since I had last seen him. He did not say A WORD! My other friend who knew I'd had surgery brought up my loss (but not surgery). -
Trying To Decide - Does It Really Stop Your Hunger??
honk replied to SueAnneE's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
To me the band means getting satiation vs feeling "full". If I feel really full, I've over eaten. First until you get restriction from the saline injections this will be a diet. Make no mistake about that. A Diet. What restriction means for me. Eating 3 oz of solid Protein, 3/4 cup low fat/salt/cals/carb veggies, maybe some fruit (grapes and cherries are great because you can stop after a couple and not feel bad that you are wasteing a whole apple) and feeling satisfied. Yesterday I had 3 oz unskinned chicken breast, tomato spagetti sauce, parmesian and about 6 sugar snap peas for lunch and was full (I think that was from the heat). This is where my sessions with the eating disorder therapist preop come into play. I ask myself are you still hungry? Hungry enough to keep eating? If not I stop. Even at restriction this is a mental game. Some people vomit if they eat too much I do not. I can usually go 5 hour before feeling hungry. Yes, I do feel hunger. I often have 6-7 hours between lunch and dinner. I certainly feel hunger then. But 7 hours is a long time! The band is not designed to stop you from eating anything. Some people come on here and say. I need another fill I can eat bread! Well so can I and I'm at restriction. The band isn't that smart. And it certainly will never stop you from eating candy, cake, crackers, or ice cream. -
Had over 6 fills (not in fluro which is more exact) and knock on wood no PB's or vomitting.

First consult was with Nurse Practitioner, Therapist, Nutritionist. Had to show that I'd had a yearly physical, Pap Smear, Mamogram (I'm over 40), cardio ultrasound. My doctor required preoop weight loss. For me it was 35 pounds. 3 appointments with a eating disorder therapist. If your doctor does not require these go on your own. Understanding why you overeat and developing strategies to stop are very key to being a sucessful bandster. 2 preop meetings with the surgeon. Preop blood tests Meeting with anesthesiologist Class on eating postop: first half focused on the first month after surgery (when you are on a liquid and mushie diet); second half how you will eat for the rest of your life (focusing on solids/protein and healthy eating) My doctor did not require a preop liquid diet. I had my own diet and lost 50 pounds from time of consult to surgery. Originally my surgery was scheduled 3 months from consult. Because I had an unresolved brain blood clot (had stroke at 39) surgery was delayed by another 4 months.

To Snack Or Not To Snack....
honk replied to akurre12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor does not believe in Snacks fill or no fill. If you are not hungry don't eat. My doctor never said to eat a particular volume of food. He did however say to measure out 3 oz of Protein per meal. Are you getting that much protein per meal? If not that could be causing you to be hungry every two hours. -
Any Ideas For The Full Liquid Stage??
honk replied to ledavis13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor did not consider yogurt or potatos a liquid. Those are mushies. For full liquid I really liked Pacific brand sweet red pepper/tomato soup. I added Mrs Dash unsalted flavorings before heating. The herbs reconstituted and gave the soup a great taste. -
2 Weeks Out, Eating Almost As Much As Before
honk replied to lucypets's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor never gave me directions based on volume. He did say however to weigh protein out to 3 oz. Are you doing that? If not I recommend you start. Because you can eat a lot does'nt mean you should. Measure and eat 3 oz of protein and then eat a portion of low carb/cal/fat veggies.
