  1. Are you weighing your Protein? My doctor says 3 oz. I prefer skinless chicken breast. I agree with previous posters that 1800 is a high calorie count. If you are not measuring your protein you will eat to much. You may need to isolate your protein so you know you are getting the right amount. I find eating casserols is tough because you often get way to much potato/rice/pasta and not enough protein. Have you cut out potato, Pasta, rice, crackers, all liquid calories? You mentioned doing a lot of exercise. What kind, how long and how many days a week? I am a slow loser. I was unemployeed for 7 months and would do a 2 hour walk in the morning and a 1 hour Water aerobics class at night. I eat around 1200 cals a day and still lost less than a pound a week.

    Water Aerobics?

Hi I'm a big proponent of water based exercise. Before my lap band Journey I started exercising because I had a horrible knee problem and needed to lose weight. I bought myself a fat lady swimsuit online because there wasn't I store the carry my size locally. From diet and swimming 7 days a week for an hour I lost 100 pounds. Huge difference in my knee pain. With my work schedule there were times I couldn't get a lane at the pool and have ended up taking the water aerobics classes. You'll discover some instructors are much better than others. You should feel comfortable asking them how to make the moves either harder or easier. Since surgery I've lost another 72 pounds. Now that my knee problem is so much better I can do land based exercises. But I still go to water aerobics and I still do lap swimming. For swimming I highly recommend a waterproof m p 3 player. Makes the experience so much more enjoyable. Considering I use to use it everyday for an hour spending 100 dollars is completely worth it. I also use it if I'm going to do water aerobics on my own on the weekend when the classes aren't run. Also I think it helped me not to have loose skin. It's a great way to tone your core.
  3. Did your doctor's office tell you to start mushies so soon? I did not start yogurt until Day 15. In general right now you are really swollen and won't be able to eat much every meal. In general carbs don't keep you full for very long. The body breaks those down very easily. Greek yogurt is the best choice if you're going to eat yogurt because it has higher protein. I would make sure to blend the yogurt so you don't get fruit chunks. Personally I add Splendra to Greek yogurt even the fruit ones because it's pretty sour. I'm not surprised that you're getting hungry after an hour because again you're eating 1 carbs and 2 slider foods that go through the band. The 4 to 5 hour rule is really meant for when you're at restriction after Having fills. While in the liquid phase I tried to spread out my food consumption. I would have 8 ounces of broth wait an hour then have my protein shake. Helps with both physical and head hunger.

    Potatoes

I've also read that if you roast white potatoes with olive oil it slows down your body's digestion of the potato. Reducing blood sugar spike. I am not a doctor this is just something I read online so don't flame me. One particularly awesome way to eat white potatoes is cubed with LOTS of garlic (talking a head of garlic), coat with olive oil, add some oregano and bake in the oven. Leave uncovered to get carmelization. FABULOUS. Greek potatoes as my mother would say. I suppose you could add carrots if you were so inclined.
  5. I spent two whole nights in the bathroom voiding (literally). Would kind of preferred a couple days of the scale being up.
  6. What kind of liquids? My doctor said 7 days clear liquids and then 7 days full liquids. I was not allowed yogurt or pudding until day 15. During liquid stages I added Mrs Dash non salt flavorings to first broth and then tomato or sweet red pepper/tomato soups. Add before heating so the spices reconstitute. For my doctor liquids were water, broth, smooth soups like tomato (not blended soups like chicken noodle), and jello. Sucky but it's only a couple weeks.

    Kids Meal!???

I agree with previous posters I would be concerned with fat/cal levels. Many children's meals are not very healthy. I would focus on 3 oz off solid low fat/cal protein and low cal/fat/carb veggies.

    Hungry

What instructions did you doctor give? I was not allowed smooth soups until day 8. I would "eat" more of the foods you are allowed rather than moving ahead in the "diet" schedule.

    Pizza?

No one loves pizza more than me. I am at restriction and eat pizza maybe once a year. More about the calories than not being able to eat it. I try to have a small low cal salad first and then one piece of pizza. I also try to have chicken breast as a topping to get some protein in.

    3Rd Fill And Hating It

If you can't eat 3 oz solid protein you are too tight! Even .1 or.2 ccs unfill can make all the difference!

    Question???

No sugar added means they did'nt add any. As previously mentioned an ingredient may intrinsically have sugar. Fruit at the bottom of my 0% fat Greek yogurt contains natural sugar. Personally not worried about that. Considering I used to eat half a bag of mini Dove bars in one setting.
  12. The body prefers to burn carbs. If you cut out carbs the body is forced to look for protein and then fat. If you are only drinking 500 cals of protein shakes a day your body will forced to burn fat.
  13. Pretty normal. The band is doing nothing for you until the fills start. I see you've lost quite a bit already. I started out at around 380 lost 100 from diet and execise, had surgery and have lost another 70. I am not trying to be a downer but I think you should prepare to be a slow loser. Your body is not "shocked" by this new diet. It has already lost 72 pounds.
  14. The preop diet is not really about the liquids. It's about high protein, low carb. In the future I would recommend chicken breast or turkey lunch meat (plan no cheese or mayo) and plain veggies instead of a cream based soup.
  15. Most doctors say 24 hrs liquids and then 24 hours mushies. Sounds like you moved to solids too fast.

    Gall Bladder

Major weight loss often leads to gall bladder problems. I had a double whammy. I lost 100 pounds AND had strong genetic disposition to gall bladder problems. All of my mothers siblings (male and female) had their gall bladders removed (with my mother eight in all!). This was preband when I was 19. I have a high pain threshold and the pain is horrific.
  17. Deb32 I hope you are joking. As my mother always says there is nothing worse than a reformed fat person or ex smoker. I would never in a million years comment on another adults food habits.

    My Cholesterol Went Up???

I have genetically bad cholesterol; and do take a statin. I am at restriciton and still eat oatmeal in my greek yogurt everyday. Shellfish is high in cholesterol by the way.
  19. Don't take ibuprophen get liquid tylenol instead. Glad you're feeling better.
  20. Buy a food scale! Measure out your 3 oz of protein and then eat about a cup of low fat/cal veggies. You WILL over eat if you don't measure.
  21. Yes, some of us are slow loosers! I exercise 7 days a week and eat very conservatively. And I don't drink.

    Pre-Op Diet

I am not a doctor. Personally I would say it would be better to consume more of what you are allowed than small amounts of what you are not allowed. For example 8 oz of chicken broth has like 10 calories and no fat. A piece of cheese has 80 cals and 8 g of fat. Also I used protein shakes preop that had at least 30 g of fat (protein powder plus fat free milk). Premier protein has a pre made shake that is only 160 cals for 30 of protein. Available at Costco and SAMs (yes they are advertised on this site, bu they are quite good).
