Does your doctor allowed protein shakes immediately after surgery? Mine allowed protein shakes but keep in mind no fruit! If they are allowing you yogurt I would expect that you could have protein shakes. As to yogurt the best type is Greek yogurt as it is much higher in protein. I was not allowed yogurt until week 3. If you do choose Greek yogurt I recommend the type with fruit in it as Greek yogurt in general is very sour. I put mine in my mini blender to mince up all the fruit chunks so it was smooth I also added fat free milk to make it a thinner consistency.

So sorry to hear about that!! A week before my surgery it was postponed because I had a blood clot that had not been completely dissolved. I'd had a stroke at 39. Think about that when you get feel like giving up on this journey!!! Yes three exclamation marks. Anyway I ended up having to wait another 4 months before I could have surgery. No I wasn't on a liquid diet but I did do a voluntary liquid diet: shake for breakfast, low fat high protein lunch, shake for dinner over that 4 month period. I ended up losing a total of 50 pounds before surgery.

Please understand I am not being mean spirited. It's been three months since surgery is there a physical reason you aren't exercising? You will need to seriously cut your calorie intake if you are going to loose more weight being at 170 pounds. I am stalled at 210 eating around 1200 cals a day and doing 1 plus hours of cardio daily.

The purpose of the liquid diet is due to swelling that happens after the fill. You don't want to try and push solid food through a smaller hole. More doctors now are putting a small fill in during surgery. As to restriction not to be a downer but don't expect any. Took me 6 months before I got to restriction. This is a will power diet for now. If you haven't already done so buy a digital food scale and start weighing your protein. If you don't measure you WILL over eat.

I Think I Overdid It Too Early
honk replied to minkypop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor wanted clear liquids for 7 days so full liquids may be to thick for you. Also measure out one cup at a time. Having more servings of clear broth (to help your hunger) will be better than one large serving of tomato soup. Broth only has 20 Cal's so don't feel bad having a second cup after an hour. -
When I started my weight loss journey I could only exercise in the pool. 1 of my knees was so bad I could barely walk in the grocery store to do my shopping. I would say the first 140 pounds was from diet and swimming exercise. With that weight loss I could then walk for exercise. I highly recommend and waterproof MP3 player. Make swimming so much more enjoyable. Check them out on Amazon.

As mentioned if you can eat you are fine. If you have chewable papaya pills take a couple to help "digest" the gum. I chew gum just be careful.!

Have been on a weight loss journey for over 3 years. I did not however start to go to charity shops until this year. I need suit jackets for interviews but was unemployed and did not want to spend the money on new stuff. I found a micro fiber/velvet jacket $7, black suit jacket (brand and current style being sold at JC Penny's $7), pink suit jacket from dress barn still with tags $15 (originally $45), Land's End cardigan $5, Ralph Lorean bouse $5. My suggestion is find a Savers, goodwill, salvation army store in or near a well off town. You can find some very good quality/brand items.

What Can I Do While I'm Waiting?!?
honk replied to audreycat123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a time or you to develop a new relationship with food. If your doctor does not require sessions with a psychogist that specializes in eating disorders I suggest you go on your own. These sessions really helped me understand why I overate, and why I made poor food choices. Learn new food habits. Plan your meals/snacks in advance. Failing to plan WILL lead to you making bad food choices. You know how you go out shopping on a Saturday and now it's hitting dinner time. You know you should not get the ice cream or fries for a snack but your hungry and you don't have any choice! Believe it or not you always have a choice to not eat. If you carry a low fat/cal Protein bar in the car you can eat that for 200 cals; this will hold you over until you can get home and eat a healthy dinner. The band will help you eat less food but it will never stopped you from eating unhealthy foods. Ice cream, cake, candy, chips will pass right through the band. This is the time to learn to eat healthy. Carbs are okay but they can't be a major part of your life. One way to have eat sandwiches is to take a romaine lettuce spread laughing cow cheese down the spine add chicken breast, mustard and fold. Sandwich without bread! -
No Fill...normal To Be Able To Eat Lots?
honk replied to CCornell87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Trust me I totally get messing up well placed plans of eating small healthy plans every day! In some ways I'm lucky that I live alone because I don't have to keep any junk food in my house; or any of my trigger foods. I can't have crackers, chips, anything crunchy/salty around because I will eat them until they are gone. -
Bcbsnc Approval Questions... (Or Any Ins That Requires You To Loose Wt Before Surgery)
honk replied to shay7586's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would speak with your insurance on the phone . Most doctors use your weight from the first consult. My doctor required that I loose 10% body weight not the insurance. . -
Hi. I have been quite happy with the Eat Smart Scale. http://www.amazon.com/EatSmart-Precision-Digital-Bathroom-Technology/dp/B001KXZ808/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346524975&sr=8-1&keywords=bathroom+scale

No Fill...normal To Be Able To Eat Lots?

Please understand I am not being mean spirited. I have to agree with your boss that you are eating 1) to much , 2) advancing to quickly. I believe you mentioned tortilla's, that is a solid not a mushie. Are you weighing your food? If not you need to start. My doctor says 3 oz of Protein. Even during mushies I weighed out 3 oz. Yes you probably can eat more than that but that does'nt mean you should. That's why this is called bandster hell. You can eat a lot more than you should. This is a will power diet for now. I wish more doctors were up front about this. Don't expect that they will move up your fill. -
When Did They Notice?
honk replied to texas-bandette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For most people in a work setting if they don't comment about weight gain they aren't going to comment on loss either. I saw a former co worker after losing about 100 lbs. He didn't say a word! -
My doctor says 24 hours full liquids ie tomato soup. I am also allowed protein shakes (no fuit added). Second 24 hours mushies. Then back to solids.
-
I can really understand your frustration my surgery was postponed for 4 months. I actually did a Protein shake for Breakfast and dinner with a low cal/fat high protein lunch (chicken breast) for several months. I am not a doctor so take my comments with a grain of salt. The preop diet is about forcing the body to burn fat. One of the best ways to do that is cutting out carbs almost completely. Eating 3 oz of a solid protein (low/no fat, no breading) for lunch isn't much different than having a Protein Shake. If it makes you feel any better my doctor puts some people on a 500 calorie liquid diet for MONTHS before surgery.

Are you weighing your protein? My doctor says 3 oz. If you don't measure you will overeat.

Breakfast Protiens Besides Shakes/yogurts
honk replied to dramastarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is how I make yogurt more filling. Chobani fruited Greek yogurt (6 oz. other brands are only 5.3 oz). Mix in 1/2 a scoop whey isolate protein powder (vanilla for peach or pinapple, chocolate for cherry or raspberry), splendra to taste, 1 tsp unflavored benefiber. Mix well. Then add in a couple chopped walnuts, Kashi Go Lean high protein cereal (measure out using scoops from protein powder I normally do two.). This is a lot more filling than plain yogurt. I can usually last about 4 hours. -
Anyone Get Dizzy,weak Or Faint?
honk replied to Amoore627's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was on liquids I tried to space out my eating. I would have the 8 oz of broth wait as long as I could and then have a protein shake If you are really concerned during the liquid phase I would carry a container of orange juice with you. If you are out and get light headed that will raise your blood sugar quickly. While I am not diabetic I found that after banding my blood sugar is a lot more stable. I used to have bad spikes probably because I ate alot of carbs.
