Can You Ever Drink Too Much Water?
honk replied to farmgirl04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are we likely to drink to much water no. Can you die from over hydrating yes. Here in the Boston area we had an amateur runner collapse and die at the finish line of the Boston Marathon from to much water. -
My doctor says full liquids so protein shakes are allowed.

Eating Out While Traveling
honk replied to wildrose1966's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As long as you aren't controlling what they eat; your coworkers should'nt really care what YOU eat. -
Hi. I hope you are feeling better. FYI my mother dislocated my nephew's elbow doing something similar. The doctor popped it back in and called it mother's elbow but mom still feels guilty 30 years later.

I preferred stock has more flavor. When I got more desperate for real foods I switched to straining Campbells soup. I would'nt bother with low salt broth your food choices are boring enough. During full liquids I added Mrs Dash salt free flavorings to soups before heating to up the flavor.

Does The Restrictions Of Certain Foods Apply After Your First Fill?
honk replied to dj112's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am at restriction and I can eat any foods I want I just choose not to. The only things I have trouble with are raw baby carrots and cheap doughy breads. -
If you don't have a food list call you doctor. On day seven I was allowed to move to smooth Soups like tomato. In general I have issues using a straw so I would stop.

First no Protein Shake has magic ingredients so unless they contrain perscription medication I don't think a doctor should require you to buy from their office. Huge issue for me. In fact here is a link to the Nut. value of one of their shakes Nutrition Facts Serving Size 11.00000 packe (28.0 g) Amount Per Serving Calories 90 Calories from Fat 9 % Daily Value* Total Fat 1.0g 2% Sodium 250mg 10%10 Total Carbohydrates 13.0g13.0 4% Dietary Fiber 4.0g 16% Sugars 8.0g Protein 11.0g and the carbs are outragious! Anyway go to Vitamin Shoppe GNC and find a whey Isolate protein shake that is comparable or better nutrition wise (the Isolate part is very important). I use Gold Standard and Dymatize Nutrition. You"ll find a 2.5 pound tub for $25 at Vitamins Shoppe. Have one protein shake for Breakfast and another for lunch and a low fat/cal/carb protein based dinner. I had to loose 32 pounds before surgery. Due to other health issues I had to wait 7 months for surgery and ended up losing 50.

I had a blood clot not caused by surgery and trust me it is HORRIBLE. Please do anything to avoid it.

3 Weeks Post Op - Traveling For The Weekend
honk replied to wildrose1966's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay not necc. diet food but this is kind of a unavoidable. Just think how much worse you would have eaten preop. If you are going to be in a luxury box (have you been in one before, they are a WHOLE NEW WORLD), pull the waitor/tress aside and tell them you need to eat mushies type foods. They can probably get you something custom made. I once went to a Patriots game at the new Gillette stadium (Okay showing my age calling a stadium that is 12 years old new!) and sat in a corporate box. We had our own waitress and bartender. Anyway food options: mash potato, thin oatmeal, mashed califlower, cheese/broccali soup, pulled pork or pulled chicken with bbq sauce, yogurt (no added granola, canned style tuna fish, egg salad, mashed squash. -
Insurance Changes In The Near Future....suggestions?
honk replied to kimmer37's topic in Insurance & Financing
Personally I would probably wait. At the very least I would make sure your current insurance will cover the misc preop tests of which there are many. Not to be a downer but I do have experience being in HR regarding converting contractors to direct hire status. The contract the staffing angency has with the client can affect when the contractor is converted. For example some agencies allow a client to take someone on as a direct hire after a period of time say 12 weeks for free. Meaning no additional Fees paid to the staffing agency. Normally the agency has "buy out" schedule like such: First week of employment 20%, after 4 weeks 15%, etc. Many companies in order to avoid a buyout fee will wait until they can take the person for "free". -
Going To The Hospital Again:(
honk replied to justathing2me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to have my gallbladder out 25 years ago after loosing 100 pounds. Back then ultrasound wasn't as good. Anyway. I had gallbladder gravel vs stones meaning they are harder to see. You mentioned eating meatloaf that is guarenteed to be high in fat (relatively) which is going to set you off. I was diagnosed in January, since I was college, I did not have surgery until spring break. I quickly learned that ANY fat gave me an attack which was horrific. I had to completely cut out fat in order to avoid an attack. -
Has Anyone Had Their First Fill Around Week 3
honk replied to goingfoit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was at least 4 weeks out. -
Hello. I'm sorry to hear of your problems. Please note I am not trying to be mean spirited. What does your doctor tell you to eat post fill? Were you eating solids? Mine calls for 24 hours of liquids and then 24 hours of mushies. Since you had a bad stuck episode yesterday I would stay on liquids today and maybe tomorrow. I would def. not do solids either day.

Is Blending Cheating?
honk replied to lousianalady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are supposed to be on liquids or mushies? If yes then stop blending solids and go back to what hour doctor bordered -
I make a sand which using romaine lettuce leaves instead of bread. Put meat down the spine and fold the sides over.
-
FYI my doctor wants at least 30 minutes of cardio 7 days a week.
-
I also don't eat Breakfast early. Here's how I handle breakfast: greek yogurt, one small baggie of half scoop Protein powder, 1 tsp unflavored Fiber, splendra to taste; small baggie couple chopped walnuts, and about 1/2 cup high Protein Cereal (Kashi go lean). First mix up fruit on the bottom of the yogurt, add in the powder and then the cereal. Very high protein breakfast for about 300-350 calories. Are you weighing your lunch and dinner protein? My doctor says 3 oz of solid protein. Measure out your protein and then eat low fat/carb veggies until full. Trust me it 's hard to over eat plain carrrots, broccoli, or cauliflower. I am not a calorie counter either. I do however choose lower calorie options. Plain skinless chicken breast is a better choice than fried chicken or with a high fat sauce.

I would set a soda budget for your son say $5 a week (since a soda is at least a dollar a peice) which he buys and consumes away from the house. If he is not old enough to be out on his own than he is not old enough to be drinking soda.
-
I would go to the store and try on clothes: 1) see what size I was at, 2) when your clothes fit you look a lot smaller. Many of us are used to wearing baggy clothes to cover the fat.
-
I would do it again in a minute. Pre band I had lost 100 pounds 3 times in my lie and gained it back. I am a great dieter. My problem was living a very restrictive diet for ever. That mentality was part of my problem While I try to live by the 90/10 rule (eating healthy 90 % of the time); with the band I alble to eat smaller amounts of less healthy foods when I do eat them. I was one of the lucky ones. NO gas pain post op and only used liquid tylenol for the pain.

Went To See The Therapist, Need Some Info
honk replied to knknosmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think the therapist meant foods you should not eat as a regular "diet" after surgery. In general I am at restriction and can eat anything I want with the exception of raw baby carrots and cheap doughy breads. That being said I CHOOSE not to eat certain foods. I try to live by the 90/10 rule. Eat really healthy 90% of the time and enjoy other foods the remaining 10%. I very rarely eat Pasta, rice or potatos. I just don't miss them so not really a problem. The band will NEVER EVER stop you from eating any food that dissolves in your mouth: candy, ice cream, crackers, Cookies, cake. Band will never stop you from drinking your calories. No carbinated drinks. -
Took me until 10.6 to get restriction.

Were you told liquids first 24 hrs after a fill and then 24 hrs mushies?

Help: I Love To Work Out And Sweat (Need Advice) !!
honk replied to marketingdude's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am at restriction and drink lots of water when I work out. Sometimes up to 2 liters in an hour. So not sure where the idea comes from that banded people can't drink a lot of water in a short period.
