    Help!

I was still on full liquids day 11. Personally I would back off "mushies" such as yogurt, mash potatos and applesauce. Too soon. Just my experience. I could not have yogurt until day 15.
  2. As formentioned the band will not work on mushies or liquids. You must progress to solid foods for it to do you any good. Also you can't live forever on really mushie foods.
  3. My doctor said NO. Yes they can damage your stomach lining. Also prolonged use of NSAIDS has been linked to strokes. I had a stroke at 39!!! After using a Perscription strength NSAID for a year. I still think it was a major cause of my stroke.
  4. Fat free milk does'nt have any fat and is pretty low in calories. My doctor did not take away dairy even during clears. I was allowed protein shakes and they weren't clear either. I was also allowed low fat cottage and ricotta cheeses during mushies and low fat greek yogurt. I would call the doctors office and ask if you can have fat free milk if you are making protein shakes. I would agree full fat milk has a lot of calories. I also have read multiple places of people having weight loss surgery eating ice cream since it is after all a liquid!
  5. Yeah the cream and even milk has to go. Think how black coffee is and then look at the product in those clear cups. If its not black like coffee than you know there are to many calories.

    No Restriction!?!?!

I'm shocked a doctor would give you another fill only days after the initial fill. It can take up to two weeks for a fill to take effect. It is after all liquid that can move around in the band and tube from the port. It took me 6 months of fills before I got restiction. In your case it seems like you need to take a slower course of action since you were overfilled in the past. Not what you wanted to hear I know but the band is connected to living tissue and thus not subject to logic.
  7. First consult in general or first meeting with the surgeon? At my first consult I met with a Nurse Practitioner, Nutritionist and Psychologist. The NP told me how much weight I needed to loose before surgery; Nut. talked about healthy eating habits (I had already lost 50lbs on my own so I knew how to loose weight), and the Psychologist wanted to see if I was stable enough to handle the stress tha comes with surgery. About a month later I met with the sugeon. Where I asked a lot of a questions about the surgery.

    Rethinking The Band

Before even pursuing the band I had lost about 50 pounds. I had a horrible knee problem that made it almost imposible to even do grocery shopping (I was 38!). As part of my preop diet (7 months) I lost another 50 pounds. I am two years post op and have lost another 70. Yes I am a slow looser for a bandster. I eat very conservatively and exercise 7 days a week (up to 2.5 hours of cardio). This is however the longest period of time in my life that I have continued a healthy lifestyle (eating and exercising) about 4 years.
  9. Okay pretty annoyed. My father died when I was 11, my mother more or less had a nervous breakdown. My sister who was 15 and I had to fend for ourselves. My mother was able to do grocey shopping but that was about it. We cooked for ourselves (packed our own school lunches) for about 6 months.
  10. Grrr wrote a post and it did'nt save. Anyway. The band is not magic. First until you start to get fills this will be a will power diet. Even after restriction you will still need to make good food choices. The band will never stop you from eating any food that disolve in your mouth: candy, ice cream, crackers, etc. You mentioned Protein shakes. After your pre op diet and the two weeks post op you should not be drinking calories. The band is meant to work with solid foods. Until you get restriction you will need to have will power. No way around that. This is referred to as bandster hell, because you are having to "diet" (eating small amounts and still being hungry) and no one enjoys that.
  11. Once you are healed you should be able to eat most foods. I also love pizza. I now eat it as a treat not daily which I used to do before. The only foods I have trouble with is really cheap bread and raw baby carrots.

    Rethinking The Band

5% of the peopl who loose major amounts of weight keep it off for good. That's a bad figure. Pre band I lost 100 pounds 3 times in my life and gained it all back.

    Being Secretive

Okay, as someone who was raised by a single mother (my father died when I was 11) I have some strong feelings about this. My senior year of college my mother off the cuff mentioned having a biopsy on a lump in her breast and it had come back benign. She had not told me because she did not want me to worry. Now her father and FOUR of her siblings had already died of cancer. I was very upset that she hadn't told me and 20 years later still feel she should have kept me in the loop. I think you need to bring your daughter in the loop sooner rather than later. She is an adult and you need to treat her like an adult.
  14. I think there was a problem with the benefiber factory. Coscto now sells a store brand flavorless fiber powder which is just like benefiber.

    Swallowed My Gum

Let it pass. You swallow food right? To make yourself feel better try taking chewable papaya pills. I chew gum everyday on my walks.

    Smoking How Will They Know

I don't think second hand smoke gets inside the hair. I think doctors give blood tests versus hair tests. As a recruiter I know some employers (ie Kraft) does hair tests since it does give a longer snapshot of drug use.
  18. Can you have broth? That might help with salt cravings. I know protein shakes can be hard because they are sweet.

    No Coffee !!! Or Gum

After reading on here that coffee was a non-no I commented to my doctor that I was going to miss it. His reply "Why can't you have coffee?" I talked to the Nutritionist and she said the issue is caffienated coffee might stimulate your hunger and it is a dieretic (makes you dehydrated). Soooo I have one cup of regular coffee and then move to decaf. New England in the winter is a #%#%$^ without hot coffee. I also take my coffee black with Splendra so it's about 5 calories. As mentioned above it is reallllyyyy easy to drink A LOT of calories in a coffee drink.
  20. I would say no. As mentioned above most doctors are basically doing a high protein low carb preop,. Club Crackers are high carb. Basically your body prefers to burn carbs, protein, fat (in that order). If you only feed it protein it is forced to move on to fat. In general crunchy, salty things are trigger foods for me. I don't keep chips, crackers in my house (2 years post op).
  21. Even during full liquid stage I was having tomato soup to get the veggies in. In general my doctor wants 3 oz solid protein and then veggies and or fruit. I have about 1/2 cup of veggies lunch and dinner.
  22. Definately cut out whole eggs! I have genetically bad cholesterol. I had to go on a Statin even after loosing 150 pounds and exercising at least an hour a day 7 days a week. I never eat full fat cheese, whole eggs, red meat or pork.

If none of the doctors in the practice like the band find anothe office! Is the duadenal switch bypass? If so it could be they are more a surgery and done type office. The band takes a lot more aftercare.
  24. Are you exercising? My doctor wants at least 30 minutes 7 days a week.
