  1. For those who have joint issues I highly recommend water based exercise. There was a time when my knee was so bad I can barely do my grocery shopping. Doing an hour of swimming a day 7 days a week and modifying my food habits I lost 100 pounds. At that point I then had lap band surgery. Now having lost an additional 70 pounds I'm able to do up to 7 miles for a walk.

    Workout Ideas

You cannot spot reduce. You can however build muscle under the fat; and muscle burns more cals than fat tissue.

    Not Losing

My doctor said 3 oz mushie protein. Also you should choose low fat/ cal/ carb choices.

    Night Shift?

I would be sure to get your protein in.
  6. Week three soft mushies: low fat cottage and ricotta, smooth spaghetti sauce, blended Greek yogurt (fat free milk to thin it out). Week 4 scrambled eggs, canned chicken and tuna, low fat laughing cow.
  7. Tomato soup is a great way to help savory cravings. I added Mrs Dash chicken flavor spices before heating. Really upped the flavor.
  8. Personally I would call that a denser mushie more like week 4.

    Exercising During Pre-Op?

Lap swimming. I use a snorkle because I'm not a great technical swimmer. Water proof MP3 is a must! Also water aerobics is a great group exercise. If you miss classes people notice. Great motivator to show up. I've made great friends. Also the instructor can make suggestions to make moves harder or easier. Lost 50 lbs preop ( over 7 months).

    Fast Question!

Very slippery slope! Do not drink while eating . EVER. If you would not do something in front of your doctor....
  12. Do you have access to a pool? At 360 lbs I could barely walk. But I could swim. Personally I would start now it is to easy to make excuses not to work out.

    Post Fill Portions...

My doctor never told me to eat based on volume at least for protein. He said 3 ounces of solid low fat low calorie protein. 3 ounces of protein is easily half a cup if not more. I don't mean to offend anyone but I have read that people who eyeball portions are almost guaranteed to overheat. Buy a cheap kitchen scale and at least weight your protein.

    Diet Soda

I look at it as if my brother a recovering alcoholic can give up beer for the rest of his life I can give up diet soda.

    Holidays

What stage will you be in by Thanksgiving? I would bring with you foods that you can eat. I was about 8 days post op when I went to a friends 60th birthday party so you can just imagine how much wonderful food there was that I couldn't eat. If you're on mushys you can take turkey chop it up really really fine add gravy and that should be a good mushy.

    Popcorn???

I have no problem eating popcorn personally would consider it a slider food. I try not to buy it because I would eat way too much of it and unless you eat it plain is going to be high in salt and possibly fat.

    Slider Foods

If a food more or less dissolve in your mouth it's a slider food.
  18. Personally I would be very very concerned about your stuck episodes. I am 2 and a half years out and can count my stuck episodes on 1 hand. I absolutely do not think that you need a fill if anything you may need an until. Some people keep their bands really tight because they think it should stop you from eating certain foods. My doctor does not hold that philosophy. If your band is in reality not too tight then my guess is you could be eating some foods that don't agree with you. Having a too tight band will lead you. to choosing slider foods that go down without getting stuck. Problem with slider Foods is 1 they tend to be higher in calories and 2 since they don't keep you full you eat more of them. This will lead to weight gain. In the years I've been on this site I've read more than enough postings of people who started to eat ice cream and shakes from McDonald's because they go down so easily.

    French Fries?!

Well I really don't eat bread very often read almost ever. That however is really more of a personal choice. The only bread I've ever really had trouble with is really low quality bread like you get at a lower end restaurant. If I'm going to eat bread it has to be really good quality really good tasting for me to spend calories on it. I will however have half a homemade crescent roll on Thanksgiving .
  20. Tylenol no longer makes adult liquid version. I did however find adult strength acetaminophen liquid at of Pharmacy just ask the pharmacist for it

    Weight Loss On Pre-Op Diet

My doctor put me on a 500 calorie pre op diet that he thought I could do for like months. I followed it very closely for 6 days I weighed over 300 pounds at that point. I also exercise pretty religously 7 days a week for an hour a day so I was pretty active. Lost nothing!! The shakes started giving me a funny feeling in my throat like an allergy. I spoke to my nurse practitioner and went back to my personal diet plan. I ended up losing 50 pounds before my surgery so I thought that was successful. I think trying to live up to it 500 calories well being I'm active person is crazy.
  22. I realize and maybe in the minority but I had no gas pain absolutely no gas pain. After reading comments on this site I was really petrified of the pain but I have none. My doctor also said that using gas ex was just a placebo that would not have helped gas pain from the surgery.

    Coffee

1 thing to remember about regular coffee is that it does the hydrate you. You should really speak to your doctor about whether they want you to have coffee or not. Post op I am allowed coffee but try to limit it to 1 cup of regular coffee a day and then switch to decaff. I've also read that you should drink at the equivalent of I glass of ice water for each cup of cafe Coffee that you drink. Also if you're going to drink coffee it should just be with non sugar sweeteners or Black. Coffee with cream and sugar add the calories big time!
