Vitamins: Are They Really That Important?
honk replied to KristineNote's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ladies of a certain age make sure to get your calcium. I do eat Greek yogurt but NEVER drink milk. I also take iron. -
My opinion is they are pointless. We are overweight and wearing one isn't giving to change that. Also how many men are using them?

What About Our Fat Friends And Relatives
honk replied to lisapereira66's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Carolinagirl and Rojasanoll are so right. Someone who can't control their eating are like alcoholics, smokers, or drug addicts they have to make a conscious decision to change their behavior. It has to be a personal decision. The motivation to change has to come from within. My mother has always said there is nothing worse than a reformed smoker or fat person. Remember fat people know their fat. If someone asks I am happy to tell them everything. -
It might help you to look at food/drink as a percentage of your total daily consumption. For example 350 cals is a total meal for me. So drinking 8 oz of dessert would not be my first choice. Also 19 g fat would be almost be a daily allotment.

Will This Work To Speed Up The Process?
honk replied to kristlynngirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All about your insurance. Call them yourself and ask. My doctors only requirement outside of tests was 10% body weight loss. -

Please Tell What You Are Drinking!
honk replied to SkinnyCubanChick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What are you allowed? For drinks I would say: coffee (decaf no cream, splendra), water, crystal lite, broth. -
Sounds like you need an infill. You need to be able to eat.

I have Greek yogurt with half scoop protein powder with 1/2 cup high protein cereal for breakfast at 10. I only have shakes after a fill or occationally before workouts. If I eat lunch at 12 I have a long time before dinner (8-9). I've moved breakfast to 10 so I can move lunch to 2; so the time until dinner is less.

Need New Calcium/multi Pills...suggestions???
honk replied to Lisa0203's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not sure why no chewables or gummies. My doctor specifically said Flintstones chewables with choline and Caltrate plus chewables (calcium with D). -
Having been in a roommate situation you can't really ask a roommate not to eat things that they want to eat it is after all their house too. Especially at the beginning this is willpower diet. I would start off the new week going back to the healthy eating habits that you had started off with. In addition to healthy eating habits you can also make going to the gym a habit. Believe it or not you can get to the point where is skipping a workout depresses you. I plan on going to the gym 7 days a week and if I miss a day I really miss it. Also if you join some kind of class (I go to water aerobics ) people expect you to be there and will comment when you miss a day.

You might want to look into a gaming system like Wii or x-box 360 that has exercise games. You can often find them used at shops or online. That way you can workout for half hour or an hour and your grandkids can get use out of it as well. Not sure if YMCA is in Europe but then they offer discounted rates depending on your in income. I can certainly relate to it getting dark early and being cold out. Even though I belong to a gym on the weekends I like to go for a walk instead of working out inside. Last 2 weekends it's been way too cold to walk outside. I do also recommend trying to park at the end of the car park instead of finding the closest spot near the door.

I will say the better supported you are the more it shows off your weight loss. Well I am healthy D I have always had a smaller torso. So when I stand sideways you definitely see a profile.
-
Being as I'm a healthy D even after losing 170 pounds I really like Playtex 18 hour. If you live near a Playtex outlet you can get really good sales also they have great sales online.

Personally I like to think of the band creating a funnel. If your drinking water it's not going to break the funnel but it will take longer for it to pass through then if you were just pouring it straight into a container. So if I take a long drink at the gym sometimes it takes a little longer for it to pass through but it does pass.

2.5 years out take gummies daily no problems. I do bite the fiber ones in half so that be may be why they don't get stuck. The vit D is pretty small. I actually quite like the Caltrate plus chewable calcium. For the multi I take a children's chewable that's the Costco store brand much cheaper than Flintstones with choline.

No Restriction 2 Weeks Post Op
honk replied to kma87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not to be a downer but I would expect your going to lose less than 1 pound per week. I stay under 1000 calories a day and do an hour of cardio 7 days a week and I was less than 1 pound per week. -
Well I was back at the gym on day 4 though I had been exercising 7 days a week for a year and a half before surgery.

1 thing to consider is you are putting vegetables and fruit in the protein shake as well. I was on my own pre op diet and I did include fruit as well. Post op however my doctor explicitly said not to include fruit. Keep in mind adding fruit is probably 30-100 extra calories. So sure a shake with extra calories is going to keep you full longer. In general doctors want you eating solid foods because they keep you full longer. In general now that I'm at restrictions I can go 5 hours plus before I'm hungry. Even at restriction however a shake isn't going to hold me that long.
-
I definitely think accountability can be a strong motivator. When I was pre op I definitely wanted to have lost weight from my previous appointment. I think it's important to understand some Weight Watchers leaders aren't going to be supportive of the lapband because they see it as a competitor to their brand.

Does your lap band doctor work out of a hospital. If so I would call the emergency room tell them what your problem is and ask if there's someone on staff who can do emergency unfill. I would definitely drive the extra 30 minutes to the lapband hospital that I used verses closer hospitals that don't have a lap band surgeon. My hospital is also a teaching hospital so it's possible someone who had a rotation in the weight loss surgery department would be available.

No Restriction 2 Weeks Post Op
honk replied to kma87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me over 6 months to get restriction. For now is this is a willpower diet. My doctor wants me to measure out 3 ounces of protein and eat low fat veggies until satisfied. 1 thing you'll need to learn is also what is satisfied verses full. As mentioned this time is called bandster hell. Also at your weight/ BMI your weight loss is going to be slower. -
To confirm you only have 4 cc in a 12 CC band? If so that's ridiculous. I did not get restriction until 10.6 cc. I agree what's the point of having band if you're not going to get fills. I say get a new doctor yours is not doing you any good.
