Interesting I haven't been watching that show a lot lately but I did see 1 where he was talking about selling his fat pants at a yard sale. I do feel bad for people in the public spotlight because like the rest of us everyone feels they have a right to comment about their weight .

Protein shakes vs slimfast
honk replied to 2013bandgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree you should use whey isolate as it is a better form of protein. I know slim fast does now make a higher protein shake but they're older products are much too high in calories for the level of protein you get. -
why does a fill take a few days to "kick in"?
honk replied to kyrasgrandma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nurses told me that the reason why it can take a couple days for you to feel anything from a fill is it is fluid moving around in the band. fluids flow basically. If this is your first feel however you may not actually feel anything. It took me 6 months to get restriction. -
If you're going to a chain restaurant they have their calorie counts, in fact in the US it is now a law that they have to have the calorie counts. I would look up and see how many calories are in the drink that you want to have. I find if I find out how many calories something has that I often stop eating it. Even before I was banded I looked up how many calories was in the Chili's big bites hamburgers meal, I000 calories and 90 grams of fat. Ouch I think you will find that the latte's have a lot more calories than you think.

I'm not a doctor but I don't see where a band diet would be an issue. I don't eat much wheat products such as bread or cookies or crackers or anything like that so I really cut a lot of that out of my diet.

I don't think you can buy benefiber in the US any longer I'm not seeing it. I found a brand made by Costco that I've been using a flavorless a fiber powder.

Burning up with fever and just had a fill yesterday
honk replied to goingfoit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work in an office at a hospital so I had to get a flu shot ( non medical personnel). I think I did get a mild case of the flu combined with the time of the month. I had aching in the the bottom of the stomach area and nausea but no vomiting . I went a week where I really had to force myself to eat something because I just wasn't hungry. I was eating maybe 1 meal a day and maybe a protein shake if I could force myself to do it. I've been banned did for a while but this is my first flu episode. -
Day 3 of Pre-Op Diet - Shake suggestions?
honk replied to phdizzle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Costco carries a premade shake buy premier which is quite good 30 grams of protein for 160 calories. You can also get them at Sam's Club. -
At my heaviest I didn't on a scale but I would say I was around 380 or higher. I'm down to about 212 and the only sagging skin I really have is under my chin

Well I take both vitamins and get enough protein I also lost hair for the first 5 months. Not sure if the loss stopped because I started to take biotin or because my body just recovered from surgery. But since you can get biotin on sale I prefer not to find out by stopping taking it. I take 5000 milligram daily. The ones I buy are the size of a tic tac or smaller. You can often find buy 1 get 1 free sales at the drugstores. Its also good for your nails and my nails have always been very brittle anyways. My sister who has not had weight loss surgery was also experiencing some hair loss so she's been taking biotin as well.

There was a time I was ready to be a person that needed the cart at the grocery store. Now I can do a 8 mile walk.

When can you return to work?
honk replied to Chrissy-Chris's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Take the next week. For 5 business days you get 2 weekends of extra rest. -
Most doctors do not remove the GB the same surgery as LB.

Lost my first 100 before banding from diet and water based exercise. Highly recommend water proof MP3.

Total normal. I am 2.5 years post op at restriction and do at least an hour cardio 7 days a week and am in a major stall.
-
Productive burp. Basically food that was in the pouch before it passes to the bottom of the stomach.
-
Sounds about right. I had a mini physical with nurse practitioner, met with psychologist, nutritionist, saw video in how band works.

My doctor said not to try to get pregnant for at least a year after surgery

Am I Doing Something Wrong Or Just Lucky?
honk replied to jrockwood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My question would be why are you drinking 2 meals a day? At this point are you on solids. I wouldn't worry about not being hungry between meals. I would be more concerned about eating solids which is what the band is meant to work with. -
Why can't you wait a year or more? People have first babies after even 35 all the time.
-
My concern is actually that you appear to be making a decision for her. Is she a competent adult? If so this is NOT your decision. NO weight loss surgery will work for someone who is not committed to making healthy food choices/portions. There are people who get band over bypass because the bypass didn't work for them.

Personally I don't think it ever gets easy. Easier but not easy. No matter your restriction level you can always eat high cal/ fat sliders like candy and ice cream. Did take me six months to get restriction.

Fage is only 5.3 oz vs. Chobani being 6.
