  1. The correct answer is probably no. If I were to do it I think I would have the meal on Wed. This would give you a chance to "void" everything if you get my drift. You would'nt want to eat a large meal the day before then have the anasteshia (sp)/pain killers bind you up after. My nurse practitioner did mentioned someone having a presurgery blow out and she was not happy about that.

    Full Liquid Diet!

V8 has some smooth soups sold in "boxes" in the soup isle. I tried Sweet Red Pepper which was pretty good I did add garlic powder to it though. I am preband but had the flu and thought I would try out soup flavors.
  3. When I was 18 I lost about 100 pounds and ended up having to have my gall bladder removed. Loosing weight is more likely to cause gall bladder problems than it is to stop them. I also had sludge versus stones. Having an attack is HORRIBLE. I can not express this enough!!! Yes three exclamation points! (and another for good measure). There is a huge difference between what is done in a gastric bypass and having a gall bladder removed. I was diagnosed with needing to have my gall bladder removed and had to live with the attacks/extremely low fat diet for 3 months before I had surgery. Not only did I get attacks if I had to much fat (meaning any fat), but also due to TOM. I had surgery over a long weekend break my freshman year of college. Doing it earlier would have meant taking time off from school which I refused to do. You need to make the right decision for you. Having lived with a similar situation if I had a child who had this problem I would strongly recommend they have it removed. NO hesitation.

    Breath test??? im confused

Hi. I did not do a Breath/Ulcer test. My EKG and Labs were done 12 days prior to my surgery date which meant my insurance approval had already come through.

    Woke up with Rash

Personally I would consider this an emergency. If possible I would go to the emergency room of the hospital where your surgeon works. I would not take chances with allergies from medication. I once stopped breathing after being given intervenous pain killer.
  6. I'm far from an insurnace expert but this is how I would translate the letter: We will pay for medical services that you actually receive. For example many people have hietal hernias repaired during surgery. But if if you don't have a hernia your surgeon can't bill for it just becuase he normally does. Basically the surgeon can't bill for phantom treatments. Also as of today you have insurnace and they will cover the surgery. If it takes three months before you actually have surgery and by then you have lost your coverage; they are'nt bound to pay the bill if you don't still have coverage. My letter said the same type of thing.

    Famished at 4:00pm

My Nut approved having a fat free Chobani greek yogurt with fruit for an afternoon snack. I add about 2 tablespoons vanilla Protein powder and some splendra. FF Greek Yogurt is sour (in my opinion). So for less than 200 calories I am getting about 30 grams of protein with some fruit. I need to have a late afternoon snack. I have lunch around noon go to the gym at 6, and don't get dinner until 8. There is no way I could go that long and go to the gym without eating. ' As noted above most doctors say no Snacks, but I think that is because they don't think fat people can make good choices and/or eat small amounts. 200 calories of Yogurt is different than a Snicker bar. Oh how I love snickers sigh!

    Magic Bullet

I have the Hamilton Beach individual serving size blender. Same thing as the magic bullet but only cost $10. Love it.

    issues with alcohol after surgery

Alcoholism is something that passes from Mother to Son. There are many cases of alcoholism on my maternal side. I have two sisters and one brother. Oldest sister normal weight not a drinker (though if stressed would eat chocolate for comfort), Brother recovering alcoholic no weight issues, Middle Sister fluxuating weight but never as over weight as me also uses food as a comfort and not really a drinker. Me I have been overweight my whole life I really don't drink (like maybe one a year). To me it sounds like you have transfered your comfort item from food to alcohol (though I am not an expert). I know my biggest food issue is carbs: potatoe chips, corn ships, things that go crunch, cake, brownies, cereals (Oh how I love cereals especially sugery children's cereal). I could eat a half a box of count chocula by the handful no milk required. I no longer buy these things. Period. If I am at a family get together and the menu includes oven roasted potatoes (greek style with garlic) then yes I can have them. Or if there are chips to go with sandwiches that's okay too. But I always make sure it's just a couple. I don't eat half a bag just a couple (I am preband). I think you need a plan which in my opinion means not having alcohol in your house. I would agree that perhaps you should speak with a professional who can help you make a game plan.
  10. If this trainer is trying to sell some diet to you (something you have to pay for) then not only would I discontinue his services but would inform the managment of the gym. My guess is they don't know he is setting up his own side business using their customers. Slightly off topic. I go swimming an hour a day/7 days a week. I'm really not into classes of any kind. Too much like high school and I always feel uncomfortable because as the fat chick I could'nt keep up. While the Water aerobics class at my gym are made of of people of all body types and ages; still not my thing. I also like to work out to music (water proof MP3 player is the best thing in the world), and the classes don't use music. Most of the instructors for these classes really try to push me into taking their classes. While they are part of my membership (so free) I just don't want to do them. I think however they may get paid by how many people take the class (or are afraid low attendance will mean the class is cancelled and I think they are contractors). Kind of irritates me because I want to go swimming and not get nudged about joining these classes. Sorry just venting.
  11. Hi. I had my PreOp meeting today with the Anesthesiology department. The nurse there told me that some hospitals contract out that function. Thus your surgeon and hosipital stay could be covered by your insurance but the doctor from this second vendor might not. She mentioned a couple hospitals in the area that have that kind of arrangement. So you might want to confirm that your hospital does not contract out that department. Who Knew!!!!
  12. When my mother had her first hip replaced; at rehab she shared a room with a woman who was awake during her hip replacement! She had been an OR nurse for like 50 years and wanted to be "present" for her surgery:scared2:. To me that was nuts. So after hearing that story nothing suprises me.
  13. I will be having my surgery at a teaching hospital. We had to sign a release that allowed them to tape the surgery, but it said that our faces would not be shown. This is however for the hospitals use only we would no recieve copies.
  14. Here are some suggestions of foods you see on "healthy food lists": Chobani Fruited Greek Yogurt for breakfast (with added protein powder), Occational Whey Protein shake made with Fat Free Milk, Fruit or string cheese for afternoon snack, Lean Cuisine for lunch, Grillled/Baked Chicken breast, Turkey Chili, Hummus and carrots, Egg Whites/egg beaters, Fish, Apples, oranges. Just incase you hit writers block!
  15. I started the sugery process 1/10 and due to treatment of a bloodclot from 8/09 I was not able to do the surgery in March like planned. My surgery is now scheduled for 8/12 (fingers crossed). I understand feeling like you are in limbo because your insurance will not cover until January. But, if all of your requirements are met when your insurance request is submitted will your doctor schedule the surgery upon approval? My insurnace approved me in about 2 weeks. So I had approval long before I had lost the required weight. I was told to loose 30 pounds before surgery which I did by late February. You don't want to slow down the process by not having lost the weight you need by January. I am down about 53 pounds since Jan 1 from diet and exercise. I am actually a little concerned that the band will be less succesful than planned because I have already been on a 1,000-1,200 diet for months now. I know that it is hard to go to the gym when you are overweight. Trust me on this. I really recommend swimming as it is easier on your joints and you can really go at your own spead. I even use a Snorkle so I don't have to worry about the breathing part. If you have not set up a exercise program I strongly recommend doing so. Not to be preachy but you mentioned knowing your food choices are'nt the best. How bad are they really? If you would'nt tell your doctor what you had for dinner/snack than don't eat it. Also I know before I started this life style change sometimes I was embarrased when I put my groceries on the check out. I felt like the thin people were thinking no wonder she's fat look what she eats!
  16. FYI the Protein Shooters (look like a large test tube) at Costco come in a 12 pack are currently on sale (no coupon needed). Reg 19.99 so per unit is $1.68 (Even cheaper than walmart), sale is $3.00 off which brings them to 1.42. They stay usable for a long time so I bought two packages worth.
  17. I had a "flu" this week and the nurse recommended having broth and soup for a few days so I did some taste testing for post op diet. I tried Country Inn (CI) Rotissere Chicken Bold Stock and the CI White Wine Chicken Stock, and V8 Sweet Red Pepper Soup. I liked the Rotissere Bold flavor the most for a thin clear liquid a lot. I did however add a lot of garlic power. I am greek however and if it does'nt have garlic we're not happy.
  18. Tracey10, what is your protein source? My Nut said even preop to be getting about 80-90 g of Protein.
  19. Mine was like 2-3 weeks. I actually got a call from my "case worker" to talk to me about the surgery. So I got the call before I got the letter. I think my doctor's office submitted the insurance request immediatly following the first consult. My surgery had to be postpone and I had to get the surgery reapproved. That happened in like one day; and they sent me a new letter.
  20. I once had an ER doc that was no in my network though the hospital was. I fought the coverage with the insurance because unless you ask the doctor how would you know? I won that one.
  21. I ask my surgeon about single incision and he said I was to large for that. While admittedly that was about 40 pounds ago (my surgery had to be postponed for another health issue currently now scheduled for 8/12). I wonder what weight/Belly measurement is required for single insistion.
  22. My surgeon's office would give you a date after you had your last consult with him. Basically I think he wants to confirm you've lost the required weight and to feel your belly to see if he will have problems with the surgery. I got a call so I did not have to be physically in the office.
  23. For yogurt I buy Chobani Greek Style it has twice the protein of other regular yogurts. Since i buy the Fat Free with fruit it's a little tart. I add in some splendra and approx. 2 tablespoons of vanilla whey protein powder. Mix together for a really thick high protein snack.
  24. Personally I would ditch the trainer. Do you have any evidence that they actually trained someone with WLS surgery? I am a corporate recruiter and people lie on resumes and to your face ALL the time:mad:. Sad but true. Also did he train Bypass or Lap band patients? Bypass people have to deal with a lot of vitamins issues. It could be that person was not getting enough vitamins and minerals. If you are getting the correct nuitrian you can't exercise.
  25. Carbonated drinks like Diet Coke/Pepsi.
