  1. My doctor says 3 oz solid protein lunch and dinner. For breakfast I have Greek yogurt and half scoop protein powder and app. 1/2 cup high protein cereal/some walnuts. Solid protein will keep you full. Carbs will not.

    protein

Yes you can have too much protein. In fact it can lead to kidney stones.
  3. My doctor requires at least 3 weeks between fills; as it can take 2 weeks for a fill to take affect. My doctor never gave me instructions for protein based on volume. I recommend that you get a kitchen scale and weigh out your protein 3 ounces per meal. My doctor does not support protein shakes once you've moved to solid foods. Shakes are a liquid and is just going to flow right through the pouch into the big stomach. As mentioned this is a willpower diet for now. For lunch and dinner I would eat low fat low cal Protein 3 ounces and then low fat low cal veggies until satisfied.

IT'S BEEN A MONTH SINCE SURGERY

If you are on solids eat those when possible. Mushies and protein shakes won't stay with you.

    Not losing!

I highly recommend water based exercise since it's easier on the joints. I also like the elliptical machine. For the pool water proof MP3 player is a must!

    Too tight??

If you can't eat 3 oz solid protein you are too tight.

    To tell or not

Personally I keep it to myself. Think of the person you like the least and imagine them declaring themselves your personal food police. Enough said!
  8. I'm very concerned that you were only eating once a day. My doctor wants me to be eating 3 meals a day no snacks. I did not however get restriction until10.6 cc.

    Insurance question

Do you have all the specific information from your insurance about whether they cover weight loss surgery and if they do what the requirements are? My understanding is that the doctor normally submit your first way in to the insurance. My BMI was significantly higher so they want you to lose weight to make the surgery easier and also to show that you are committed to the process.

    PCOS and the Lap Band

My weight loss nurse practitioner suggested a meeting with an oncologist to see if I either have a thyroid problem or PCOS. She feels that I should be losing a lot more weight than I am considering my very conservative diet and my exercise schedule. So I definitely feel your pain about slow weight loss.
  11. I take both dummy fiber pills daily and add flavor list fiber powder to my morning Greek yogurt you. I don't know then if either still make flavorless powder because I can't find it. Costco has started making show me a favor with fiber powder under their own name which I've been buying.

    Insurance question

1 thing to consider is that regardless of your insurance requirements your doctor may have additional requirements. My insurance didn't require any special pre op diet or waiting period. My surgeon however required that I lose 10 percent body weight. I accomplished that in about 2 and a half months. So moral of the story is you may start your process now but not be cleared for surgery until well after you get your IRS check back. Not trying to be a downer just letting you know how things work for me

Anyone Preggers Or Been With Lapband?

Not all doctors do a complete unfill during pregnancy. After all the second person is only 0 to 8 pounds; you're not feeding 2 150 pound people. My doctor wants me to eat like a " thin " person. Thin women get pregnant and have healthy babies everyday.
  14. Well my question would be what exactly is your food plan for 4-5 days post op. I was on clear liquids for the first 7 days though I was allowed to have protein shake which I realize it's not clear. If you are allowed protein shakes I would bring 3 protein shakes per day. If you're staying at a hotel where you have a microwave and refrigerator I would bring broth that you can heat up again if you're on clear liquids. If you're allowed smooth soup I would bring those with you as well. But also remember smooth soup is like tomato or squash not Chicken Noodle or something like that. Will you have to do the driving for this trip. I don't know how much I would have been up to driving long distances. I did do an hour drive with my mother about 3-4 days post op; but I was a passenger not the driver.

    For Real?!?

F.y.i while adult liquid tylenol is no longer sold you can buy store brand liquid acetaminophen at most stores. I thought 2 bottles and I think only used 1 and a half. I had no gas pain. After reading comments on this board I was really petrified because I'm allergic to codeine and morphine etc. I wouldn't stress myself out that you're going to be in horrible pain and not have pain killers. I was more tired than anything. Probably because I spent the first 2 nights after surgery in the bathroom; getting rid of all the liquids they pump into you.

    Day 1 post op question

If you are feeling dehydrated talk to your doctor. I did not have any qualifications on how quickly I could drink my liquids.
  17. After losing 150 pounds; my doctor finally put me on cholesterol medicine because my cholesterol is still bad. I eat a very very conservative diet; no red meat; no pork; No egg yolks, no fried foods or butter. I have read that having thyroid issues can lead to high cholesterol. I'll be meeting with an oncologist next month and will definitely ask them about that. Genetically my family has bad cholesterol. My older sister who has always been thin went on cholesterol medicine last year even. Exercises office is said to affect cholesterol production. Do you exercise daily. This is another reason my doctor was so shocked my cholesterol wasn't getting better because I do a minimum of an hour of cardio 7 days a week.
  18. I started out at 332 BMI of 57. My doctor wanted me to lose 10 percent body weight before surgery . Due to an unresolved blood clot my surgery was delayed and I ended up losing 50 pounds. I've lost 70 pounds since surgery. My nurse practitioner recommended that I see an oncologist about my thyroid because I'm losing weight slowly. My food plan I really hate to call it a diet is very conservative and I exercise 7 days a week. Back to your original question I'm currently around 212. My doctor didn't do the sleeve so my choices are lap band and bypass. It was recommended that I do bypass because I had so much to lose but I really was not hip on that surgery. Not sure whether I would have done sleeve if it was available my doctor does now do it though. I guess my main comments to you would be to lose the weight you want with the band you're going to have to be really dedicated. To me that would mean being really conservative in your food habits and not drinking alcohol. Admittedly I'm not a drinker so that's not a problem for me. Alcohol is nothing but calories there's no redeeming value to it. I'm not going to debate red wine that's not really a valid argument when someone has 200 pounds to lose. And I'm not trying to be mean spirited because I was in the same boat. Not to belabor the point but I would also plan that exercise will become a major part of your life. A lot of people on this site say that the weight just fell off and they didn't have to do any exercise; but I think that sends the wrong message. As mentioned above I exercise everyday when I say everyday I mean every day. Though I am meeting with an oncologist in January and maybe we'll find a hormone reason for my slow weight loss.
  19. I find the healthier you eat ie low salt the less thirsty you will be. Just think a lot of those really unhealthy fatty foods that we like tend to be really salty like nacho chips or cheeseburgers, peanuts or potato chips.
  20. Okay I have to vent a little. I'm over 2 years out from surgery eat under 1200 calories a day and exercise at least an hour 7 days a week. Recently my nurse practitioner suggested I make an appointment with an oncologist to check my thyroid. She feels that I am NOT losing weight fast enough considering my effort. I read a lot of comments lately on the site that anyone who is not losing quickly is clearly not following the rules or lied to us. It really strikes me as the kind of discrimination we use to get as fat people. The dismissive attitude of some of the people on this site is really starting to be trying. I don't cheat on me my food plan and I exercise like a lunatic and I'm not losing weight. I don't eat carbs for fun I don't drink and a few people more dedicated than I am. I wish some people would remember what it was like to be look down on and not be so judgemental.

    For Real?!?

I only had liquid tylenol. You'll make it Also prescription pain killers constipate you. Just make sure to take it on a schedule.

    Nervous...

Knock on wood 2+ years out have never thrown up. Many people keep the band WAY too tight thinking that increases weigh loss. In reality normally flows down like loss!

    2nd fill coming up!

Do you have a food scale? I am 2+ years out and still measure out 3 oz protein.
  24. It can depend on either your insurance or the doctor. My insurance didn't required a diet or anything like that but my doctor required a 10 percent loss of body weight.
