For Breakfast I had egg betters and at the very end of cooking added 1/8 cup fat free chive cottage cheese. It will taste soooo good. I don't even like cottage cheese. For shredded chicken or tuna try low fat laughing cow instead of mayo so good. They have several flavors.

I find that when I exercise my back feels better. If I miss a day I can tell. I work from home so if I don't go to the gym I don't go anywhere all day. I need to get out of my house or I go nuts.

My friend drinks. Can she still have the lap band surgery?
honk replied to Laundromatlady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first thing I though was that they might get in there and discover she has liver damage. If you watch the real life lap band surgeries on YouTube (no blood at all so not gross). They show you how they lift and pull away the liver to get to the stomach. If she has been drinking for a long time she could have serious liver damage. I wonder if they would stop the surgery if it is bad enough. She is not going to tell the doctor. I have a sibling who is a recovering alcoholic and they can and will rationalize ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. I am pretty sure my doctor's office asked if I drank and if so how much. Also if she has to do a presurgery diet that is low carb clearly that won't work becuase alcohol is all carbs. -
Chicken breast lunch meat with laughing cow cheese and mustard on romain lettuce leaves with tomatoe. Eaten like a sandwich.

It could be possible that they decided that they were better friends than lovers. I know I have friends that do things that are okay for them but would irritate me if we were in a relationship. Not being together means being able to walk away or decline to do things are not hang out with people you don't like. If you NEVER get to go out on dates alone that is an issue. If occationaly a group off friends goes out to dinner and she is there big deal. It might be nice if he never had a serious relationship before you but is that realistic?

First Fill Under Fluoro and No Restriction
honk replied to isaviolinist's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I got 4CC's my first fill. Strangely enough when I got up off the table I felt a tighening in my stomach area. However I would not say that I have restriction. The nurse said it could take 2 weeks for restriction to happen. It's been 1 1/2 weeks for me. Next week I will call to see if we can move up the next fill. I dont' want to wait another month without another fill. -
The first TOM after surgery (several weeks after) I did get restriction suddently before it started. This month I did not get restriction at all. I am on bloodthinners so my TOM is irregular regarding timing. I had incredible hunger this week and did'nt know, TOM started 2 days later.

Reason for Visceral Hunger (TMI warning)
honk posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay so this week there were times that I had this deep visceral hunger. Tried hard to fight it/limit the damage. I am on blood thinner treatments which make my TOM very irregular. Soooo I though the hunger was based on not having restriction (have had only one fill). Well TOM came a week early today. The other thing that suprised me was the first TOM after surgery I got restriction suddenly just before which I tied to water retension. Perhaps that will not be an ongoing issue; because this week it did not happen. I wonder how this will affect weight loss because I have been very slow loosing so perhaps I will have a drop this week. -
HELP!!...How do I get approved with a new Dr?
honk replied to daraerin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will need a referral for HMO. PPO do not require one. It sounds to me like your current doctor is anti WLS and nothing will change their minds. Some doctors are like that. Call your insurance and find out whether they cover WLS surgeries and which ones. Each policy is different. They will also tell you whether they require a diet program. Some require 6 months. My policy did not require a 6 month program but my doctor did require me to loose 30 pounds which took 3 months. Many doctors require you to loose a % of your body weight (by doctor I mean surgeon). -
Egg Beaters with 1/8 cup non fat chive cottage cheese. I add the cottage cheese in at the end so that it gets heated up and melty.

Feeling weak... Tired... HELP!!!
honk replied to lucy5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the fact that you are not eating Breakfast is a problem. Since you like Greek Yogurt try having it for breakfast. I recently started adding 1 Tablespoon of Fit Bare Naked Granola. I also add a couple tablespoons of whey Isolate vanilla Protein powder and splendra. I do have to put it in a tuperware since it does'n fit well in the yogurt cup. I can relate to feeling exausted. I am on an anti seizer medication and blood thinner to to treat a blood clot from last year. I don't know if it's one of the other or the combination of them together but they really knock me for a loop. -
I would say it's normal. I have had only one fill and am loosing maybe a pound a week. From my consult to surgery (7 months) I lost 52 pounds and I do an hour of cardio a day. So I don't know if my less than a pound loss per week is due to 1)not yet having restriction, 2) having lost weight pre surgery and already being in diet drudgery.

Has anyone moved on to soft foods sooner
honk replied to Bander92210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you can have smooth soups like tomato than try adding Mrs Dash flavorings before heating. Full Liquids is a huge improvements over clear liquids. -
how many days a week do YOU workout?
honk replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that you need to find an exercise that you enjoy. Also the more you loose the more comfortable exercising becomes. I find swimming easier for me because of a knee problem (though my knee feels better as I loose weight; but I have permanent damage that won't go away). I swim/snorkle an hour a day/7 days a week. The key is a Water proof MP3 player; makes a huge difference. You can find them on Amazon. -
Banded but don't work out
honk replied to Bander92210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The thing about loosing weight is that it just becomes easier to do just about everything. Prior to surgery I was dealing with a major knee problem (now getting special joint shots to deal with the pain); and a ENORMOUS planters wort (if you've never had one you can't imagine how painful). Going on a presurgery diet and getting treatment for these other issues made being active soooo much easier. Outside having an excerise routine; being active is so much better than not. And by being active I mean feeling like you can park your car and walk the 50 yards to the door of the mall. One of the reasons I decided to have the surgery was I was concern that I was physically miserable at 40, what would I feel like at 60? Anyway, I would make a point of making the most out of your everyday activities. When you go to the store/mall park far away; choose the stairs; use the upstairs bathroom in your house. -
Many gyms have day care (though you have to pay for it). My gym also opens at 4:30 in the morning and closes at 10:00 PM. You will need to check around to see what kind of options you have.

Fianc? wishes I wouldn't have surgery...
honk replied to The_Joker's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think it is important for you to remember that this is your body. You are the one who can suffer/die from complications of being overweight. To be truthful the first thing that comes to mind is whether he secretly worries that you will leave him when you loose weight. I know I sound alarmist but I had a stroke at 39 the doctors don't really have a reason why. The can't say that it was because I was overweight but they can't rule it out either. So I would liken my decision to have WLS (huge difficult decision) to having a fatal disease but choosing to be treated for it. As opposed to going home and letting the disease take it's course. -
Help!!! my legs is numb
honk replied to Bander92210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally I would go to the emergency room NOW. I woke up one morning and within minutes my right hand was numb long story short. I had a mini stroke and ended up at Mass General (top 3 neurology unit in the country) for week 3 days in ICU. I was 39. -
craving sweets more than ever
honk replied to rpm2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would try to find something that is low cal/fat and is individual servings. Do Not Eat more than one package. I've never been one to buy pudding cups but I have bought the sugerfree/low fat ones and they help with my dessert cravings. Preband I would make the No Pudge Brownies then I started to just dough raw but I was eating more than one servings worth. I had to stop buying it. To much of a problem for me. One snack idea is Chobani 0% Greek Yogurt with fruit. I add a couple tablespoons vanilla whey Protein and several splendra. Really yummy and high in protein. I often have it for Breakfast or as a prework out snack. Mixing it with a stick blender makes it fluffy and like dessert -
For the mushie stage my doctor allowed egg beaters, low fat cottage cheese (I used one that had chive), low fat ricotta cheese, shredded chicken or tuna with low fat mayo (I've since discovered using low fat laughing cow is way better. Also you can add herb seasoning to make it more interesting). I was in this stage for 1 week. Personally, sure it's a hassle but it's only one week. Also I was allowed to have smooth Soup. I really really like Roasted Red Pepper with Tomato soup (esp Pacific Brand). Tastes great with Mrs Dash Chicken Flavored Seasoning. Add it in before heating up in the micro; So YUMMY. I know you don't want to hear it but the post op diet is only for a short time. I think if you watch the Lap Band Surgeries on You Tube you will get an idea of why doctors dont' want your stomach grinding away in there. They only put a couple stiches to hold the band in place.

Banded but don't work out
honk replied to Bander92210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it helps you to loose weight faster and to tone muscles if you exercise. The key is finding an exercise that you like. Growing up I was never a fan of swimming because 1) public pools used so much chlorine which I had horrible reactions, 2) lap swimming is soooooo boring. After having horrible knee pain and having to start loosing weight; I started swimming. It a whole new world at pools today; they use less chlorine and disinfect the Water with special lights. Also I discovered a water proof MP3 player which makes swimming so much more fun. -
I would try some dense protein when you feel hungry (like chicken breast strips) this may stop the hunger feelings. Eating anything that will slip through is pointless so no chips or crackers.

Then it went all downhil...
honk replied to Kmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What are your doctors diet requirements. I was on clear liquids and protein drinks for 7 days. Then for the next 7 days I could have full liquids (tomato soup) and protein drinks. Perhaps you need to back off anything but clear liquids. -
What irks me is if I don't ask you to pay for my surgery or for you to give me any physical support or accommidations what the hell business is it of yours? I have been very lucky because my family was very supportive of my decision. Next time someone questions YOUR healthcare decisions ask them something like this "If Mom/Dad/their child had a major heart problem and was told they needed surgical intervention or they would die would they just go home buy some Omega 3 pills and hope that fixed the problem?" Something tells me they would say no. Most people who have had WLS see this as their last chance. I know it's not worth it to pick a fight with your roommate but how does her SIL surgery have anything to do with her? I doubt the SIL depends on her for the aftercare. People can't have it both ways. They can't complain that I'm fat; then complain when I try to do something about it.
