Vomiting is bad for you. If you can not eat 3 ounces of solid protein at dinner time you are way too tight. The band tends to be looser at night than it is during the rest of the day.

I have an appointment with a specialist in January to discuss potential thyroid and or PCOS.. The nurse practitioner at my surgeons office feel that I should be losing weight at a much faster rate than I am.

If you can join a exercise class at the gym that might help you also be motivated to show up for classes. There are days that I don't feel like going to class but I know that it will be the noticed if I'm not there .

HAS ANYONE TRIED VEGGIE STICKS FROM COSTCO AND ARE THE HEALTHY ENOUGHT TO EAT THEM WITH THE BAND?
honk replied to nessa2012's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This is an answer to your question but just a thought. I don't want to costco and find a lot of great healthy things either. I also treat it as a way to occasionally have very unhealthy Snacks. I will go in on a Saturday or Sunday and have some of those treats they're giving out. Depending on what's available I maybe able to have lunch there for free. I get to have items that I can't keep in my house because I won't eat them in appropriate serving sizes. While I try not to to make this into an all or nothing food plan there are some things that I can't keep in my house because I will eat them mindlessly. However to say that I will never eat a certain food again puts me in a bad place mentally. By having a bite of brownie or a cracker at Costcos helps me scratch an itch if you will. -
10 days post-op & Hungry????
honk replied to Maybeme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My recommendation would be to spread out your calorie consumption. For example have your breakfast broth/soup wait as long as possible say in hour then have the protein shake. You'll be eating the same amount of calories as as you would of if you ate them back to back but this might help with the head hunger. -
Celebrating Christmas tomorrow with family and am tempted with food!

Why can't you have ham? Since you're going to be with family weigh out your Protein my doctor says 3 ounces and then eat as healthy vegetables as you can find at the table. I try to eat as healthy as I can during the main part meal and then allow myself a very small amount of desert as a treat. Thin people enjoy dessert. The difference between them and us is they have 1 bite of chocolate or a very small piece of cake and they stop. My mother will be making homemade chex mix and I plan on having some. It's the only day the year that I eat it and I will be taking any home with me. -
feel virtually no side effects from band
honk replied to Mistywater35's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I also have had a very good lap band journey (2 years 7 months out). I am a slower loser and actually have an appointment with an oncologist to discuss possible thyroid/PCOS issues. In general however the band is not meant to STOP you from eating particualar foods. Some people keep theirs way to tight which leads to more stuck episodes. -
feel like i have a gut ache between my breast

What are you eating for mushies? I had two weeks of mushies. The first week was the aforementioned cottage cheese and yoghurt. The second I could have canned chicken and tuna. If you are having denser mushies you may need to step back a bit until the swelling goes down some more. -

Sounds like a stuck episode. Welcome to the club. At three weeks out what type of foods are you supposed to be eating? For me at 3 weeks I was allowed cottage cheese and yogurt. Did you move ahead to quickly on your doctors post op diet? If you ate solids when you are supposed to be on mushies that could be your problem. The more details you provide the more I can try to help. -
In general I don't think alcohol should be part of someone's post weight loss surgery lifestyle. Would you make a habit of eating a candy bar or nice cream sundae I doubt it. Some of the people who will tell you it's okay to drink alcohol will be the first to tell someone they shouldn't eat Greek yogurt with fruit in it because of the sugar. Personally I don't understand the logic in that. Before anyone says that red wine is good for you I don't think the sugar you get from the wine is really worth the health benefits that you're going to get.

I don't have any discomfort after a heavy workout. The most I would say is immediately following a workout I'm not terribly hungry. Especially on the weekends I tend to go eat brunch after my workout and I'm definitely hungry. In general you shouldn't feel your band at all. The only time I ever really know my band is there in a negative way is if I eat cheap white bread and I have a stuck episode.

2nd day pre op liquid diet

That salt will make you retain water like the Hoover Dam! I would not consume a lot of salt before being weighed. -
Having trouble stopping eating ...
honk replied to dreamers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not to be mean but lentils aren't mushies they're solids. My doctor never said to measure by volume. Instead weigh your protein to 3 oz. -

HAVE ANY OF YOU BANDSTERS EVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH BLOOD CLOTS AFTER SURGERY?
honk replied to nessa2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No and I had a clot before surgery. -
You are too tight if you are vomiting.

I eat my dinner (I work full time) and then start my baking. By being full I'm less temped to eat cookies. Baking on an empty stomach would be a mistake!

Starving! I swear Thurs can't get here quick enough
honk replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would recommend weighing all protein. Hard for me to tell what you consider a small piece of ham. My doctor says 3 oz by weight. -
Had a coworker brought in a whole table of treats yesterday. They are gone today Kind of disturbing if you ask me. Being banded isn't meant to be punitive. Thin people eat chocolate. They eat 1-2. The problem is when you eat 5-6.

Is continuing on liquid protein for a few meals still okay during early pregnancy
honk replied to sassycass830's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
In general banded people should be eating solids. Get off the liquids! -
I eat a couple bites of dough; and don't really feel a need to eat the finished cookies.
-
Are you weighing the protein? My doctor says 3 oz solid protein. Buy a food scale and start weighing. If you don't you WILL overeat.

My doctor says 3 oz solid protein lunch and dinner. For breakfast I have Greek yogurt and half scoop protein powder and app. 1/2 cup high protein cereal/some walnuts. Solid protein will keep you full. Carbs will not.
