It could be that he just does not see the corelation. I would tell him that he can bake all he wants but it can't stay in the house. If he wants to bake than it needs to go to work with him the next day (or to the church coffee hour, whatever).

So, here's the issue.....
honk replied to gotmyeyeontheprize's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay so I did some thinking. I wonder if these are on the No list because he/she thinks about what you will add to them For exampleNO RED MEAT- Bacon CheeseburgerNO PORK SausagesNO BEANS Regular refried beans (like at Chilis) are really high in calories and fat.NO POTATOES Fried potato skins with bacon, cheese, Sour Cream, french friesNO PASTA Alfredo, cream saucesNO RICE Fried RiceNO BREAD Garlic Bread with loads of butterNO CRACKERS Mindless eatingNO MILK Milk shakesMany people would say Spinach is a great food. Give it to a Greek and we add Buttered Filo dough, cheese, egg and make it into "Spinach Pie". -

Does no milk mean no dairy period? I have Greek yoghurt with 1/2 scoop of protein powder every day for breakfast; which my doctor's office knows and they don't have a problem with that. Does No potatoes mean no Sweet Potatoes or Yams? Again my doctor allows both. My doctor suggest low fat protein (which I supposed would rule of beef and pork). The do recommend fish. It sounds like they want to you focus on being low carb. I have problems with crackers, cookies, cereals, chips; so I no longer keep them in my house. -
I think chopsticks might actually make it harder. Asian people I know that eat with chopsticks cut their meat etc into larger pieces so it's easier to pick up.

please help me find a protein supplement I like!!!
honk replied to cduval04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Gold Standard Brand Whey Isolate Chocolate from Vitamin Shoppe. Vitamin Shoppe has much better pricing than GNC. For Ready to Drink I like Premier Brand Chocolate from Coscto (160 cal, 30 g protein). Vitamin Shoppe will let you return the protein if you try it once and decide you don't like it. -
Psych Eval Made Me Feel Worse! Help!
honk replied to duckgirl33's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Psych eval went fine. They asked a lot of questions. He asked about my life in general and what I did for work. I told him I was in recruiting but had been laid off. To which he replied that regrettably a lot of people were unemployeed right now. Later on he asked me what I was good at and instead of saying like I am a pretty good musician I said "my job" and then I started crying. He gave me some tissues but did'nt make a big thing out of it. Sounds like I was really lucky. -
Ask if you can have suger free popsicles and or jello. Full disclosure I could not get jello down after surgery even though I could only have jello, broth, and protein shakes.

IPhone Photo - Need encouragement
honk replied to gracierose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before starting my band journey I had a friend send me photo he had taken on his IPhone (they should be bannned!); and I was shocked how fat I looked becauase I had been dieting and exercising for about 10 months (I had lost 30 pounds which I did not know at the time.) I know how you feel. I had this surgery and am working hard; why are'nt I thinnner!!!! Marathon not a race I get it; but still annoying. -
Please share your yummy stuff!

Years ago I went from have some coffee with the cream (with suger); to black with equal. Is fake suger good for you probably not but I need something. I have read that Splendra is a better choice then Equal so I now use that in my coffee. I have bought several flavors of suger free coffee syrups (chocolate, raspberry, caramel) which makes you feel like you are having a treat. During the first couple weeks of mushies I really liked taking Chobani fat free Greek yoghurt (with fruit) and blending it with a stick blender. Early on I added milk to make it runnier. In general Greek yoghurt is thicker but also has A LOT more protein. I added Splendra fat free Greek yogurt is sour. Really good. -
Even though I had been exercising presurgery I am seeing size changes withouy necessarily loosing a lot of weight. I tried on a wool blazer that was did not fit at all a month ago and it is probably wearable now. Would look better if I lost a couple pounds/inches.

Do you eat peanut butter??
honk replied to hokiemama's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
No problems with it getting stuck. This is a huge dilemma for me because I love peanut butter. A LOT. Peanut butter is however very high in fat and calories and relatively low in protein. I discovered Peter pan honey roasted chunky very naughty. See I like to eat it as a treat/dessert. I think it is better to have Toffee crunch peanuts instead because the crunchy exterior cuts down on the amount of peanut you actually get per serving. I have tried almond butter but it is just not as good. There is a product PB2 which is defatted peanuts that are ground to a powder. I use it in protein shakes. All the protein with a fraction of the fat. If you can actually stick to 1 tablespoon at a time you are probably fine. My problem is I cant. It is also really good on baby carrots. I read on Eat this Not That, that the type of fat used in reduced fat versions is actually worse for you than the fats found in the regular versions. -
Scale Dilemma! What would you do?
honk replied to RandomRan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How long have you had the scale? If you keep it in the bathroom it could very easily get messed up from the humidity. My mother had a bathroom scale that she mentioned she thought was'nt working right. I looked at it and it was totally rusted! No wonder it was'nt working correctly. You can find a nice digital scale for about $30 on Amazon or at Costco. My scale is one pound more than the one at my PCP and one pound less than the surgeons. -
Well, it makes me feel better that I am not alone in being a slow loser. I am 3.5 months post op and have lost 22 pounds but most of that was within the first month. I did try on a wool blazer yesterday that is much closer to fitting even though 3 pounds ago it would'nt button at all! So I guess that is a non scale victory! My fills have been 4, 2, 1. I go today for another fill today. Another good thing is I have not had any PB's (knock on wood) or anything like that. I guess from reading other peoples' successes I though I would be futher along by now. I do an our of cardio everyday, religously measure my protein, and maintain a very strict diet. I wonder if I am losing slower than some because I was on a strick diet for 8 months presurgery and exercising daily?

Have you seen a lapband in person? If you look a the inside where it meets your stomach you can see the soft silicon balloon folds over itself. I think as the stomach moves (and you loose fat from under the band) liquid moves within the band. Also I think the fluid can move from the band into the tube. I noticed some restriction (not enough) after my third fill); a month later it is gone.

Anyone hear about this new peer review site where you can rate and make comments about coworkers. Anonymously! Great. So if some #@$%#@%#% does'nt like you they can trash you online and it's perfectly legal. So excited about that!

can i take ibuprofen for sore throat after the lap band surgery?
honk replied to mell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor did tell me I could take NSAIDS. Personally I had an health issue pre surgery which I think was related to taking a perscripton NSAID for joint pain. I had a stroke which the doctors can't find a concrete cause for. I had been on the perscription NSAID for a year. Earlier this year there was a study released that people who take NSAIDS over a period of time are more likely to have heart attacks and strokes. So now I don't take NSAIDS at all! -
One week out - eating everything in sight.
honk replied to Loosin' It's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you are allowed cottage cheese (which for me was at 2 weeks) I bought the low fat chive, and non fat pineapple (some people have trouble with pineapple I did not). Also Chobani non fat Greek yoghurt with splendra is a HUGE treat during mushies. I used a stick blender so the fruit pieces were completely chopped up. Again you could add some milk so that it is runnier (greek yoghurt is more solid than regular yoghurt. -

Please carefuly review your doctors instructions for post op. They are'nt just about low cal low fat choices but about healing your body! Big exclamation point! Please note that after the first week I have been on nothing but will power. I am 3.5 months out have had 3 fills and have no restriction. So yes I am totally on will power right now. You need to eat liquids/soft mushie foods that don't take much digestion. You dont' want your stomach doing a lot of moving around. I would follow the food instructions you were given and try spreading them out through the day. Liquids/mushies will slide through the pouch to the big stomach. I would have soup (tomato) then an hour later have a protein shake and later on Greek yoghurt that I added milk to (to make it runnier). -
Hi. Personally I am a horrible waiter. I had read on here many people wait for a month or more before they hear back from insurance. I was kind of shocked when I got a call from my insurance telling me it was approved (2 weeks after first appointment) and I then got a letter shortly after. Based on the holiday last week I would say it could be 3 weeks from the time it was submitted before they make a decision. You could call the insurance at 2 weeks to see if they have any status.

Liquid Diet vs. Pureed food
honk replied to Xkitana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would talk to your doctor's office. I was on clears for a week, full liquids for another week before moving to mushies. As for mushies I was allowed fat free/low fat ricotta and cottage cheese, and egg whites. -
Going for ANOTHER unfill and feeling kind of down!
honk replied to Princess_Gottalose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would be excited for restriction period! Keep in mind that everyone's body is different. Some people may have more or less fat around their stomach which affects how tight the band needs to be. Remember the band is just a medical device. It's the living, moving tissue around it that defines how it works! -
Six sounds like a lot to me. I had 4 CC's to start had no restriction; second fill 2 more still nothing; third 1 limited restriction for a few days. At first fill (and only then); when I got up off the table I felt this weird sensation like the band tightening. It did not hurt or anything and I could swallow no problem. Just was weird! I did read on here that someone else got 6 CC's first fill but it was done under Fluro. My office does not use fluro for fills.

FYI my grocery stores carry pickle snack cups (baby gerkins). Provides built in portion control. I did buy them but only ended up eating 2 servings in about a month.
-
Well my doctor says a two week minimum between fills so if you had at least that between fills than you should be okay. My fills were, 4,2,1 so total of 7cc's. I also don't have restriction. I measure all my protein at 3 oz. and have an oz or two of veggies. I am loosing less weight now than I was presurgery (on my own diet not a liquid diet). Having a fill tomorrow really hoping for some restriction. I measure my food and when I'm done no seconds.
