1. While I don't measure my veggies I do use a digital scale for protein 3 oz. I would really recommend getting one; you can even get them at Walmart or Target. Right now you don't have restriction so you can eat however much you want. I know this is going to sound witchy but cheese pizza is not a great choice. High in fat/calories low in protein. And I don't just like pizza I love it. A Lot. If you are ordering from a pizza joint many also have subs. I will order a chicken and veggie sub no cheese and eat the insides only. Sometimes I can get two meals out of one sandwich. If you really want pizza I would eat a small salad first and then have one slice of pizza. With pepperoni that's my favorite!
2. At my presurgery group therapy session on food habits some people commented on going to the movies as an eating trigger. To me that was a suprise because I have never in my life bought myself food at the movie thearter (I have gotten stuff for my nephews). Growing up we NEVER got food at the movies because it was too expensive. Post surgery I did discover a liking for Peter Pan honey roasted peanut butter. I was eating it out of the jar. I have stopped buying it. I think telling yourself you can NEVER have something sets you up for failure. Eating in front of the TV/at movies is mindless eating so you will consume more than if you ate at your dinning room table. If you want to have candy at the movies I would buy a small package at the grocery store and sneak it in. Packages at the movies are really 2+ servings. If you only have one serving that is all you get to eat. For the record thin people mindless eat at the movies too. I've gone to the movies with my adult nephews (thin) and they will have eaten the whole bag of candy that I snuck in by the end of the previews! If I ask for a candy at the start of the movie and they say "Sorry Aunty Honk they are gone." Grrr.
3. My doctor said I could have Regular Coffee. My Nut says caffeine dehydrates you and to have Reg. coffee in the morning but to switch over to decaf. I work from home and keep my thermostate at 60 (I know some frugal New Englanders are calling me a spend thrift) so I need hot beverages.

Portion size meals

I am at 8 CC in an 11 band. My nut told me to have 3 oz of protein (Buy a digital scale that allows you to zero out the weight of the plate. Makes life so much easier. You can buy them at Walmart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Weight Watchers); and to have 1 cup of veggies.

Carbonated drinks

At my last Nut appointment she asked if I was drinking soda, milk, or juices. I said "I thought we weren't supposed to drink soda?" She said ahh yes but we ask. I replied "so your trying to catch someone admitting to soda" "umm yeah". In general doctors don't like carbonation, caffene, and sugar. Basically they don't want you to drink your calories. Yes I know soda can be sugar free. My doctor said I could have Regular Coffee. The Nut said sure have regular coffee in the morning but switch over to decaf. It is COLD her in NE.
6. Grumpys Wife, while I am not at "perfect restriction" yet I can eat things that many on here have said they cant: scrambled eggs, chicken breat (my main source of protein), yoghurt, hamburger, bread and pasta (though I don't eat it often because of the carbs), apples with skins. I also focus on taking small bites but not anywhere near the "pencil eraser" size that is mentioned. You also read a lot of posts about eating miniscule amounts, or going out to eat and eating only a couple bites. In my last meeting with the Nut she said I should be eating 3 oz of protein and a cup of veggies. To me that's not a miniscule amount. Less then I ate presurgery but not miniscule.

Kids Meals

Are they taking about the high calorie extras that are added to salads or full fat salad dressings? Other than that I don't know what they mean about lettuce being empty calories. Lettuce has almost no calories. Full fat cheese, croutons sure lettuce no. Everyday for lunch I have chicken breast/low fat laughing cow cheese romain lettuce wraps. No problems.
8. I swim (in doors!) an hour a day/7 days a week. I use a water proof MP3 player to prevent boredom.
9. Is his behavior rude? Probably. Whether your privacy rights were violated it's hard to tell. If you gave the other person specific information about your medical condition possibly. If he asked that person to speak with you regarding their own experiences probably not. Speed of weigh loss that's a difficult one. There are posters on this board who weighed less than me at the time of their surgeries and have lost quicker. I have followed my doctors eating plan and exercise seven days a week for an hour. My journey to surgery was longer than most and I lost 50 pounds. Am I loosing slower now because I had lost a lot of weight presurgery? Possible.

Is this bad?

The reason for the liquid diet is to alow your stomach to heal (it has several stiches in it now holding the band in place). Solid foods require your stomach to move and churn; which is bad during the healing phase. If you are hungry I would add an additional protein shake if you are allow them (protein helps keep you satisfied longer.)

Goin' on a cruise

I went on a cruise preband but I had already changed my eating habits and was exercising daily. When I got back one of my friends said I was the only person he knew that lost weight on a cruise. My mother and I got up early and went lap swimming in the pool whenever possible. Later in the day it is to crowded. Also, we got a lot of exercise when we left the ship everyday. Also cruise ships are REALLY big. You can get a lot of execise just walking from your room to the restaurant or the shows. Many ships also have gyms. One thing I will say is to avoid the alcohol. I know easy for me to say; because I really don't drink. 1) They are really expensive and you don't really notice until you get the bill at the very end; 2) mixed drinks have lots of calories.

Goin' on a cruise

I think a unfill is a mistake; because it takes so long to reach good restriction. I am 4 months out and I'm still not at good restriction. Also, the cruise I went on in the restaurants vs the buffets while there is lot of options the portion sizes were pretty small. For example when you ordered ice cream for dessert if you did'nt specify they would bring a 1 inch in diameter scoop. You can also choose not to have an app. or dessert an only have the main course (again the portion size was small). The cruise line I went on at the buffet you could order egg white omlets. Knock on wood I have not hard a PB episode yet. I take smaller bites than I used to but certain am not doing "eraser" sized bites that some people mention.
14. My question would be what do you consider "what you want"? There are lots of things I don't eat but not sure if I would call it dieting or just not wanting. I don't eat cheeseburgers, fried chicken tenders, or french fries. Did I have apple crisp with ice cream (small portion) at a tree trimming party tonight; yes. But I did'nt bring any home (was offered) because I would eat it until it was gone. I think having occational treats is fine but eating high fat/cal. foods every day (even at lower portions) is a bad idea. I want to be able to treat food like a thin person does; and most thin people dont' eat the crap that I did in the frequency that I used to eat it.

Lovenox

I have never given myself Lovenox shots though I've received them in the past. If you have'nt already done so call you PCP office and ask for an appointment so the nurse can give you a lesson. melzie_99Lovenox is a injected blood thinner. At one point there was concern I may need to be on Lovenox pre and post surgery becuase I was on a pill blood thinner. Lovenox is a less strong thinner so you would be less likely to hemorage during the surgery. My surgeon did'nt want me on coumadin (blood thinner pill ) 10 days prior to surgery. As it turned out I was allowed to go off coumadin prior to surgery and then start up after surgery. Most surgeons perscribe Lovenox shots while you in the hosptital both pre and post surgery.

Christmas Party Time

I would have some solid protein (chicken breast or chicken/turkey lunch meat) as a base before going to the party. This way you won't be starving and will be able to make better choices. Many parties have cut up veggies with dips; eat the veggies only. Another party staple is cheese cubes. While cheese is high in calories it also has calicum and protein. As a previous poster mentioned I would lean towards protein based foods (as long as they are'nt fried. I will admit when I go to family parties etc (which are less than once a month maybe two) I do allow myself to have a couple carb based treats (ie crackers). I don't keep that stuff in my house so it allows me to have a taste. One of my issues in the past has been totally cutting things out of my "diet" for say a year at a time, eventually caving which leads me to saying "screw it I can have this occationally" and then going back to terrible food habits. As another poster mentioned we need to learn how to eat like thin people eat (they just do it without thinking); they have 2 crackers and stop. They don't plan on denying themselves certain foods forever.
17. I would call your Nut. I think egg drop would actually be lower in calories but probably higher in salt.
18. For ready to drink Premier Chocolate Protein Shakes sold at Costco are pretty good 160 cal, 30 g protein.
19. I believe I have only had two "stuck incidents". Both were with baby carrots. I think I took a bit and did not chew barely at all and swallowed. The food basically gets caught in the funnel (area of stomach constricted by band) and can't fall through to the "large stomach". Since carrots are hard it had a hard time sliding down. Boy oh Boy did that hurt. Felt like I was trying to swallow a shard of glass.
20. Hi. Five sounds like a lot to me for a first fill. I got 4 and when I stood up from the table I felt this swelling/constriction in my stomach area. Did'nt hurt really just felt super weird. I went and drank some water and left. I think they just really gave you to much. Some doctors offices start with like 1-2.
21. I have some restriction but not perfect. Pretty much every day I have the following for breakfast: Chobani Greek Yoghurt (fat free with fruit), half scooop of vanilla Whey Isolate protein powder, 2 ts benefiber, splendra (fat free greek yoghurt is pretty sour), 10 g Kashi Go Crisp Protein. Mix everything but cereal, then add cereal at the end.
22. Try measuring something you know the weight of like 1 lb of suger. Measured it several times during the day. See if the weight changes.
23. I live what we'll call "King's Road" in town A; there is a "King's Road" in bodering town B. The roads however don't touch. I get people looking for the house at the same address on the other Kings Road all the time. Never had domino's though. The real question was the Pizza already paid for?
24. I have 8 CC's and have limited restriction. I weighh my food and am pretty diligent.
25. Full liquids 24 hours, soft foods, mushies second 24 hours.
