  1. When I mentioned not having reg. coffee my surgeon said "Why not?". The Nut said to have only 1 cup reg black coffee before switching to decaf because it dehydrates you. For mushies canned chicken works will. I mixed it with low fat laughing cow cheese which I liked because it could then be microwaved.
  2. I second gold standard Double Chocolate. For ready to drink Premier Brand chocolate and vanilla from Costco are very good.

    Liquid cheating

I also had 7 days clear liquid. I urge you to stick with it. I would try adding Mrs Dash non salt flavorings before heating. Also I bought stock instead of broth it has a lot more flavor. Also don't bother with low salt stock full liquids is bad enough.

    Hubby's Comment

Knowing that you will eventually get help from the band does help you make it through the first 6 weeks. It took me 7 months from first consult to surgery. I lost 50 pounds in the time. My thin sister said the same thing. "If you can loose this weight maybe you don't need surgery. My issue is that I know I can loose weight but I can't keep up the smaller portions on my own for ever. Prior to this effort I have lost 100 pounds 3 times in my life but in the end gained it back.

    Blood Clots & Surgery

In 8/09 I had a blood clot in the brain and had a mini stroke. No warning I was 39. I was on blood thinners for 11 months and my surgery was delayed while the blood clot was resolved. My surgeon warned me I might get a hemotoma at the port site (blood pooling). If that happened I would have had to stay extra days in the hospital. Luckily nothing happened and I was able to leave the next day. I did take a pill blood thinner for 2 days post surgery but that is pretty common.
  6. I like Gold Standard Double Chocolate and Dynmatize Gourmet Vanilla Whey isolate powder. I also like Premier brand Ready to Drink from Costco.
  7. I had my gallbladder out after loosing about 100 pounds when I was 19. Once you have a really serious attack you will be ready to have it out. Excrutiating!

    Best Protein Shake, HELP!!!!

I have a premade protein shake as a prework out snack (I have a long time between lunch and dinner). Other than that my doctor does'nt really want me having shakes as they pass right through to the big stomach and don't keep you full for long.
  9. Well I was on clear liquids for 7 days. If you are alowed full liquids here is what my doctor ordered: smooth soup like tomato or squash (not blended chicken noodle); half hour later a protein shake (low fat/carb, protein around 25 g in powder) made with fat free milk. As long as you are only doing 3 soups a day and 3 shakes I would'nt consider it grazing. Also remember to measure out 1 cup of soup; coffee mugs are much more than 8 oz.
  10. I went shopping on day 2 but my mother did the driving. We would go in a store for 10 minutes or so then drive to another. Day four I started back at the gym (treadmill slow no incline.). How many hours of class does she have a day. If she is full time and will have 4-5 hours a day she will be very fatigued the first couple days. That being said as a freshman in college I had my gall bladder removed (regular surgery not laproscopic); and I was back to classes in a week.
  11. I on the other hand was told Flintstone Vitamins with Choline. Costco has the same product under their own brand for a lot cheaper. I also buy chewable calcium.
  12. Hi. I now live in NH but was a south shore chick for a long time! My surgery was done at Lahey by Dr Brahms.

    why hide lapband?

My family knows, a couple close friends, and some women in the water aerobics class at the gym. I am more than happy to explain the process to them. They know how hard I worked to lose about 100 pounds presurgery. I had surgery during a period where I worked from home so I did'nt need to explain the liquid diet. I now work at a client site. I don't feel a need to explain my meals. Most people would probably say I was eating a Atkinsesque diet; high protein (usually chicken) but very low fat, and veggies. My doctor says 3 oz of protein and 1 cup veggies. That's not so little food that people look at me funny at the lunch table. I don't really feel a need to tell coworkers about a medical procedure. They do see that I don't snack, only have black coffee (no Dove hot chocolate for me. Crap), and know that I go to the gym everynight.

    caffeine?????

My doctor is fine with coffee even regular as long as there is no suger or cream involved. Doctor never said a word about diet soda either (note I have not had carbonation since surgery.)

    My surgery is tomorrow and...

    I was not
  16. If the original posters doctor said Whey isolate they don't agree with protein is protein. I buy Gold Standard Double chocolate, and Dymatize Gourmet vanilla I believe they are whey isolate. I buy mine at the Vitamin Shoppe and find the staff is very knowledgeable about their product.
  17. I have genetically bad cholesterol. I never eat red meat, pork, whole eggs; and I exercise 7 days a week. Even after loosing over 100 pounds my cholesterol was still bad. I would recommend moving to egg whites/egg beaters all the protein none of the fat or choles. I am now on a statin.
  18. I have a premiier brand chocolate protein shake 30 g protein, 160 calories; as a prework out snack. I am at restriction and other than the shake I don't have "snacks". I have lunch at 12:00 and by the time I go to the gym and drive home it is often after 8:00. If I did'nt have the shake I don't know if I could really make it through a work out.

    Periods

I asked the surgeons office, PCP, and GYN if the weight loss was causing my period fluxtuations and they said no. Shrug.

    Who Does Feel Full??!

I agree with vickyd. Prebanding full to me normally was a overfull to feeling sick. Now that I am at restriction I get a different kind of full feeling. It did take me over 5 months with many fills to get restriction.
  21. During liquids, mushie phase I added unflavored benefiber to most things. Now that I'm on solids I still have Greek yoghurt everyday for breakfast and add benefiber to it (as well as half scoop vanilla whey isolate powder, and some splendra).

What's with all of the sound effects?

You are not alone. Sometimes I get super loud intestinal gurgling.
  23. It took me over five months and many fills to get restriction. I bought a digital scale and measured my food out. When it's gone stop eating. Rough I know but we are not known to be good at serving sizes. I had to wait almost 8 months to have the surgery. I spent that time retraining my brain about food. More than half of this project is mental.
  24. You probably have not damaged yourself. At day 12 I was still on full liquids (smooth tomato, or squash soup). I was able to move to cottage or ricotta cheese on day 14. At the point you're at I would have a cup of smooth veggie soup and an hour later the protein shake.

    4 weeks post op

I did'nt necesarily gain when I went to mushies but I've been a slow looser. During the hearing phase I tried to space out my food consumption like tomato soup and then an hour later shredded chicken made with low fat laughing cow (during mushies). Other than that I bought a digital scale and weighed my protein. When the food was gone I stopped eating. My doctor does'nt approve of snacking so his opinion was that you should grit it out. Took me 5 plus months to get restriction.
