    SOUPS?

Pacific brand tomato with sweet red pepper is very good (sometimes in the organic section). Also adding non salt Mrs Dash flavorings before heating ads a lot of flavor.

    Full Liquid

Not to be a downer but if your doctor called for full liquids than you should stay on that. Pureeing a regular soup is not full liquids it's a mushie. I was on clears for 7 days and then full liquid for 7 more. Tomato or squash soup is a full liquid.

    this postop diet...

One suggestion I would make is adding no salt Mrs Dash flavorings to your soup before you heat it up. They will reconstitute and make the soup taste really good.
  4. My question is how many wedges of laughing cow do you eat at a time. They do have low fat versions. I would say 1 wedge would be fine only 35 cal and like 3 g fat. I would not have more than one.

    Diahrrea

My first night home I spent on the toilet(all night). It does get better.
  6. While I am at restriction I do not count calories. In regards to choosing food sometimes you have to fake it till you make it. Did your doctor require meeting with a psychologist about emotional triggers for overeating? Mine did and those meetings were so helpful. If I'm at a family party I can have dessert but it's not a normal event anymore. I don't keep treats in my house ever. I have a much different relationship with food now than I ever did before. For example. If I was at work and there was free food (brownies, Cookies, etc); I would eat it whether or not I was hungry because I wanted to make sure I got my share. I actually feel free, in control of my self because I can walk on bye. This did not happen over night it's taken over a year of retraining myself. As to McDonalds; there are better places to spend those calories. While I am not neccesarily against the occational indulgence (I don't like to say cheat because that infers not a lifestyle but a short term effort); my doctor stresses the importance of not creating bad eating habits. For me an occational visit to McD's would become a trip once a week and then whenever I was in a hurry or whatever. Exercise. Well, after meeting with a knee surgeon about HORRIBLE knee pain he told me I had to loose weight because nothing else was going to help. He suggested I try swimming. So I bought a fat lady swimsuit with a little skirt (weighed 364 pounds), a snorkle and a Water proof MP3 player. Oh and to complete this picture my gym rents out half the pool to the high school swim team. From exercise (364 days a year my gym is closed on Christmas) and food choices I lost 82 pounds before surgery. Moral of my story is if I can lose weight swimming ANYONE can.

    Eating out!

Did you mean 3 weeks out? I agree with previous poster that is too long to be on mushies! To original poster. What does your doctor say about diet progression at 10 days out I was still on full liquids so tomato Soup, etc. You could order a pureed soup but I would stay away from solids.
  8. A fill can take up to two weeks to take affect. Most doctors won't give an additional fill until 3 weeks has gone by. Not to be a downer but it took me 5 months to get some restriction and another month to get the appropriate restriction. As for Wendy's I would suggest a baked potato instead of nuggets; you can put the chili on the potato to help it along.

    Coffee

Instead of fat free creamer I would suggest a sugar free syrup for your coffee. When I lost 100 pounds when I turned 30 I gave up real sugar and cream in coffee. I have never really missed it.

    Water aerobics

I normally do lap swimming. Three days a week however the high school swim team takes up 3/4 of the pool and the rest is water aerobics. While I am also the youngest by 20+ years it still is quite fun. You def. get out of it what you put in. I am working it much harder than the rest of the class. Also you can ask the instructor for ways to make the work out harder. For example when doing arm motions under water; instead of making your hands into a fist leave you hands flat with the fingers close together. That creates more drag. See if the Y has weights to use in the pool. If not buy your own. They make the work out harder.

    How soon for vigorous workouts?

I started back at the gym on day 4 slower increasing my time and incline on the treadmill. I was allowed to go back to swimming at 2 weeks.
  12. How many days post op are you? Are you on solids yet? If you are allowed mushies you could try pulled pork or chicken since that would be the right consistancy. I would not feel bad about pulled chicken but I would about beer. One my doctor says no carbination, two it's empty calories. Personally I would rather have 150 cal. or dessert than alcohol.
  13. I am at restriction and was allowed raw veggies when I was back on solids. I have baby carrots everyday for lunch though I dip them in hummus.
  14. I had no gas pains at all!

    UMASS Banders?

I had my surgery done at Lahey by Dr. Brahms. I was very happy with his work. Very lucky not to have any gas pains after surgery that others suffer from. Make the most of the Mindful eating classes those are REALLY important.
  16. I had to loose 10% body weight which was 33 pounds. My surgery had to be postponed for other health reasons but I end up losing 50 pounds before surgery. I already had an exercise program I was following so that really helped me. Swiming or water based exercise classes are really good for overweight people. You can exercise for a lot longer than you would on a treadmill. My doctor did not want me snacking even presurgery. Based on that I would suggest eating larger protein based, low cal/fat meals and cut out the snacks.

    Do you miss food/eating?

I don't think I would really say I miss food. Though that could be because while I don't keep my trigger foods in the house anymore I allow my self those foods on rare occations. My sisters birthday a cupcake, Mother's day 2-3 chips with salsa. As mentioned by a previous poster I feel more in control of food than I used to. It exists therefore I must eat it. Example: at work we have very nice coffee stations I've bought coffee cake as treat for the floor. I am able to leave them alone. Does'nt really bother me. Also they hold many meetings where there is usually danish or cookies left over. Because I don't feel that hunger 1-2 hours after lunch I can pass them by.

    Losing without working out

I highly recommend lap swimming. I started at 364 pounds wearing a fat lady swimsuit, and using a snorkle and a water proof mp3 player. I was having HORRIBLE knee problems and could not do other aerobic exercise. I lost 82 pounds prior to having surgery.
  19. For breakfast I have 6 oz greek yoghurt 0% fat with fruit; 1/2 scoop vanilla whey isolate powder. I find more than that gives to much of a proteiny flavor. Since greek yoghurt is sour I add splendra. Also 2 tsp. unflavored benefiber. Since I am on solids I add 1/4 high protein kashi go lean. If you let it sit for 5 minutes whatevers in the protein thickens the who thing up; makes i more filling.
  20. I highly recommend lap swimming. I have a water proof mp3 player which makes time go by so much faster. Some days I can't get a lane because the high school has swim team practice. On those days I do the water aerobics classes. You might find those easier to do as you are starting out.

    Throwing up after eating

I have never vomited. It is important to keep your band at a level where you can eat 3 oz of solid protein plus veggies. I suspect some people who have productive burps, vomiting, have their bands too tight (you'll note I said some). My doctor said if you can't eat the amounts of food listed above you are to tight.

    Co Worker JUST SAID WHAT????!!!!

Next time sat "Some of us realize it's rude to comment on another person's medical decision." If she's insulted ask if she would like to continue the conversation in the HR Managers office. Something tells me she will not. You have a right to a civil work environment. Your employer knows that. You can sue them if they foster a hostile work environment.
  23. You might want to try ready to drink protein shakes they tend to taste better. I quite like Premier brand which you can find at Costco chocolate and vanilla. Also Muscle Milk light it pretty good. Make sure to get the light version though the regular is high in calories and fat.
  24. Not only can vomiting be a sign of being to tight but also just not being able to eat normal "bandster" sized meals. My doctor says if you can't eat 3 oz of dense protein (chicken, fish) + veggies that you are too tight.
  25. Yes, most doctors want you to eat solid protein once you have healed from surgery. Think of your pouch as a funnel. The liquid passes right through and does not give you fullness. I buy vanilla whey isolate and use half a scoop in my greek yoghurt for breakfast (and 1/4 cup high protein Kashi cereal). The only other time I use protein shakes is as a prework out "snack". It can be 8-9 hours between lunch and dinner since I have an hour commute and go to the gym after work. I have a Premier RTD (Costco) which helps me make it through the work out. Only 160 Cal 30 g protein.
