I'm never given anything for pain before a fill. To be truthful they are not pain full.
-
To me the question is does your doctor required clear liquids or full liquids? If clear then that would be broth. My doctor says full liquid which could be a tomato soup for example. If your vegetable soup is really thick when blended then that may not be a liquid and more of a mushies.

First fill in a few days, not sure what to expect
honk replied to Tina Ramirez's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Getting a fill is nothing to worry about. If you do a small crunch they're better able to find the port. With my first fill only I felt this odd cramping like sensation in the general area of the band when I get up from the bed that I was lying on. Not painful at all just odd. Definitely followed your doctor's Post fill diet requirement!!! I can't tell you how many times I've read on this site someone saying my doctor told me to be on liquid for 24 hours after my fill but I ate solids and now I'm really sick! -
Ideas for "mushies" phase
honk replied to treysee26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would check with the doctors office to understand exactly what they want you to be eating at this point. My doctor called for first week of mushies to the yogurt, cottage cheese or ricotta. Second week I could have canned chicken or tuna. Remembered just because something can be put in a blender doesn't mean that it's not going to be heavy sitting in your pouch. -

I understand you're following doctor's orders. The statistics on your shakes however aren't very good. Way too high in calories and carbs for the level of protein that you're getting.
-
I wouldn't say I have to chew meat to mush. I eat Chicken 2 meals a day everyday. I don't eat much red meat but I didn't eat it before I had surgery so I don't see the point starting now. Post op you should be able to have Greek yogurt which is a great source of protein. I know some people can't eat eggs but I have egg whites every Saturday for brunch.
-
How many calories are in your shakes I ask because 27 carbs per shake seems really high to me. I know my protein powder is only about 3 grams so if you made them with water you can see that's a lot less than what you're getting.

I was never told not to drink right up until I eat. The only thing I can think of is that by wetting the stomach the food might be more likely to slide thru then if the stomach is "dry".

Eating in the morning....feeling stuck all day
honk replied to banded121512's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a hot coffee on the way to work. At about 9 I have a Greek yogurt with half a scoop of protein powder mixed in, Plus flavorless fiber powder and Splendra. I also add about a third of a cup of high protein Kashi go lean. -
Sounds to me like you are too tight. You should not be PBing or vomiting. I chug water all the time.
-
I was told by a trainer to do strength training Monday Wednesday Friday and I could do cardio everyday you.

Probably fine. Go to liquids for 24 hrs to deal with swelling.

I only drink a protein shake pre workout because I have about 7 hours between lunch and dinner not because my protein levels are low. You should be able to get protein from foods like chicken breast; which has 8.8 g per oz.

I would definitely go for your consultation tomorrow. Even as a self pay 1 you may have to do a lot of test and 2 the doctor may ask you to lose a certain amount of weight before doing surgery. My insurance didn't require any kind of diet before surgery but my surgeon based on his requirements it was going to be 3 months from consultation to surgery. I agree that I would talk to HR about how they handle unpaid leave. In the future I would make sure to email your manager about every appointment so they can't say you never told them. Many managers will pull this kind of crap because their first choice is for you to be at your desk 10 hours a day with no breaks and making the company money. The way they see it they're not there to make you happy they're there to make the company money. I'm jaded I know but I've been in corporate America for too long.

1st month of 6 month supervised diet
honk replied to journeyofkeisha's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think trying to stop drinking while you're eating before surgery is pointless. For me it really has not been an issue at all. The only time it seems to bother me is when I eat something that is really salty. And for me that's normally because I've also eaten something that is also very high in fat. I'm guessing your biggest issue right now is about portion control. It's been shown in research that unless you measure out your food you will think that you're eating a lot less than you really are. Eating out probably is making weight loss harder for you. If you are going to eat out I would make sure that it is plain chicken breast no breading and lower fat sauces at the very least. I don't like to cook and I still don't cook even now. I highly recommend buying a roasted chicken and eating that through the week. I had 7 months between my consult and surgery, and I lost 50 pounds. I also was exercising an hour a day 7 days a week. Highly recommend Water based exercise it's a specially good for those of us who are larger with joint issues. -
Liquid Diet Is Killing Me
honk replied to shaunamswenson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ditto about stitch concern. Yes this is really sucky you'll get no argument from me. Best of luck this too will pass. -
Had NO gas pain at all.

Your friend is definitely wrong. Being in a good place with your band does not mean by vomiting! Your doctor was right to do a small unfill. You need to be able to eat 3 ounces protein weighed Plus some vegetables. That is more than just a few bites. I wish people including some on the site wouldn't say that having the band mean that do you have 2-3 little bites and you're done eating. We are adults and we eat adult size portions. Remember normal weight people eat more than 2-3 bites at a meal.
-
My doctor explicitly said that I would still be able to eat most foods that the band is not meant to stop you from eating any particular food. I hear all the time on this board that people are told that they will not be able to eat bread and for me that is not at all true. I have to choose not to eat bread and it's a favorite of mine.

I can't remember exactly seven or eight took me at least 6 months to get restriction and then after another 7 months I had another fill. Bibliophile I wonder if what your nurse really meant was trying to explain the difference between full versus satisfied. I think many on this forum would tell you what you want is satisfied vs full. As I'm eating I'm asking myself are you satisfied now enough to stop eating? Sometimes if I wait until I feel full then a minute or 2 later I feel uncomfortably full. Some of us don't have soft stops that we can depend on. Sure I wish I was 1 of those people who got soft stops but it's something that I just really have to I think about when I'm eating. Another thing the nurse could of been referring to is the fact that the band won't stop you from eating slider foods. Also some people post on this site I can't wait till my band is tight enough so I can't eat food X or Y; the band is not designed to stop you from eating particular food my surgeon was explicit about that. In general it is possible to lose weight as you are trying for restriction. At this point it is a willpower diet. I highly recommend getting a food scale and weighing your Protein my doctor says 3 oz.

Are you on the road all day or can you eat an hour or so after you get to work? I bring a Greek yogurt and half scoop protein powder, mix then add about 1/3 cup Kashi high protein cereal.

First mushie meal 9 days post-op
honk replied to HolleyJane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're lucky you could move so quickly to mushies. A lot of us had to wait 14 days. As a warning you may feel less full as you heal. Just want to give you a heads up.
