    Last Meal Syndrome?

You are definately not alone - I have been going thru the same thing - though I did not wait to get my surgery date to start pigging out on my "last supper". I have been eating obscenely since I had my original consult with my surgeon (December) and throughout the entire presurgical proccess! I am scheduled to be banded on 3/31 - so I am planning on starting my preop diet on 3/22. Hopefully that will be enough time to reverse whatever damage I may have done.
  3. MsFab, That's great about your progress - I hope I can be as successful as you! Dr. Geiss is great - I feel totally comfortable with him and his staff. I have decided to start the liquid pre-op diet as soon as the products arrive. I will also start excersizing at that time, I have been putting that off. I do think this "last supper" syndrome is very self-destructive, and it is surely as much a mental battle as a physical one.
  4. Drasan, Thanks so much for your advice - I think you are right. I will start a modified diet as soon as I get my liquid diet supplies delivered - I ordered them yesterday. I'm hoping I didn't gain much more than you - but I won't know until I get the courage to step on the scale.
  5. Yes, I understand that, but I haven't even started the pre-surgical liquid diet yet. I've gained my weight between the initial consult, through the medical clearences. Perhaps I should start the liquid diet sooner than 7 days before my surgery. I would be much more concerned if I were gaining weight on the liquid diet, but that is not my situation. I am scheduled to start the liquid diet on the 24th. Maybe I will start it on the 22nd instead.

    March 2010 Bandsters

March 31st! I am very excited and very anxious to get it done and start my new life!! As a side note, has anyone else actually gained weight prior to surgery? I have gotten heaver since I had my first consult with my surgeon on 12/22. I have several explanations for this, but am wondering if there are any other bandsters who have experienced the same thing. I notice the majority of you have lost weight since you're initial consult with your surgeon - and I feel like I am the only one who has gained weight.
  7. I was scheduled for the informational seminar tomorrow 12/8/2009 at the North Ritz Club in Syosset, New York. I just recieved an email stating the informational seminar has been canceled due to unforseen circumstances. The next informational seminar is 1/5/2009! I am so dissapointed, as I was looking forward to meeting Dr. Geiss and learning a lot about the band. D:
  8. I go for my consult with Dr. Geiss! I am so nervous and excited!
  9. Yes I was! I was there at 5:45ish - went through my first consult and got all the information I needed to have before surgery. I am so excited! Which nutritionist did you meet with? Do you have a surgery date scheduled alreadly?

I am so proud of you!! Make sure you update your ticker - it still only says 21lbs - EVERY pound counts!! I can't wait to be following in your footsteps... This is my last week of the semester, so I am going to start calling and making appointments for the specialists I need to meet with, hopefully have that information in-hand before I visit with Dr. Geiss on 12/22.

    Pre-op Newbie Long Island

Hi! Where on Long Island are you located? This site will bring tons and tons of information AND inspiration. I've not yet been banded, I'm having my first consult with Dr. Geiss in Syosset on 12/22. I'm hoping not too long after that I can have my surgery. Please keep us informed as to how your preop diet/surgery/postop recovery is going!! Michelle

Worked out for you - the "first" meeting in December was canceled due to "unforseen circumstances" - so you didn't miss anything! :rolleyes2: I'm already registered for the Jan 10 meeting - but my initial consult with Dr. Geiss is on 12/22/09 - so I will be meeting him beforehand. I can hardly wait!! PS - RE: the liquid diet - I've done it before for 6 months. The first 3 days or so are hell (think detoxing) but after that it's pretty much just routine. I have no doubts youll be able to get through a few weeks, especially while you see the numbers on the scale going down down downnnnn!!

WOW! Thank you SO much for answering my questions! It's really helpful to hear your experience. I can't believe you've already lost 21lbs!! That's amazing! I am so happy for you!
  15. Hi All, I am reletively new to this site and I would like to thank you all for your support, encouragement, and inspiration. This forum has such a wealth of knowledge, and I am very thankful for it! I have not yet been banded, in fact, I haven't even met my surgeon yet, but I am scheduled to meet him on January 12th - where I hope there will be a quick approval by my insurance and I will be on my way to banded life by March 2010. In the meantime, I plan to read as much as I can about your experiences and successes, as they are a huge inspiration to me. That being said - I would like to share with you the things that are not going to be a part of my life when I finally get banded. And I'd love to know what you plan to drop (besides some pounds!) once you get banded. I will no longer: - Be out of breath walking up a flight of stairs - Search a room to see if I'm the heaviest girl around - Stay home because I'm too embarassed to go out with my friends - Work out in my house because I'm too embarassed to go to the gym - Give into the newest miracle weight-loss drug hype - Place the blame for my weight on circumstance - Need a double-digit ring or pant size - Binge eat alone in my room - Fret at the thought of going to an amusement park, movie theater, or ball game (because I will fit into the seats) - Need a seatbelt extender for an airplane flight - Settle for an unsatisfactory relationship - Have "such a pretty face" - without the body to match - Shop at Lane Bryant or Torrid - Hide in the back behind plants or walls of relatives during family pictures - Use food as my escape and comfort - Be miserable in my own skin I will: - Walk tall with my head held high - Be able to shave my legs with ease - Be able to cross my legs while seated - Fit into a classroom desk - Zipper my jacket - Control my food, not be controlled by it - Go for a run - because I can - Not ever forget where I have come from, I will always be kind to those overweight - Be thankful for the ability to change - Become the woman I was meant to be - Find a meaningful relationship with a man who doesn't have a scary fetish for BBWs - Shop at regular clothing stores - Wear heels - Share clothes with my friends - Have so much more closet space - Be an inspiration to others, as much as others have been to me

Oh, I am so glad to hear you are feeling better - I really didn't expect it to be this soon, to be honest, so that is a nice suprise! Congratulations on your 18lb loss already! That's great!! So yes, I do have quite a few questions... Feel free to not answer all if you're not comfortable. Did you stay overnight at the hospital? Was Dr. Geiss able to make you feel comfortable before you went under? Have you "slimed" or "pb" yet? Are you uncomfortable all of the time? Is it due to the swelling or can you actually feel the band/port? How has your digestive tract been handeling this change? Constipation? Diarrhea? Normal? Are you feeling very weak? Are you able to walk around somewhat easily? Can you drive? Have you gone back to work? Was it done laproscopically? What is the followup regimen that Dr. Geiss has implimented? I suppose that is all for now. I'm really just extremely happy that you are OK and that things seem to be going well for you. If there is anything you need, please let me know.

Chellz, How much have you lost since you've been banded? How long did it take from the initial consult with Dr. Geiss to get banded? How/What was the process?
  19. LOL - that's hysterical about the WLS Drive-Thru. And yes, I throw away my car garbage (fast food wrappers) before I leave my car when I am sneaky eating. I will drive next to a dumpster in the back of a mall and throw the garbage in there. Like throwing it away somewhere other than my home makes it invisible. LOL. What a weird thing!
  20. ymjackson, Your will&will-nots were great! I love your confidence! I am envious of it, in fact. I can totally identify with the "eating in the car because those calories don't count" will-not. I have termed my private eating as "sneaky eating" - in my car, in my room, where and when ever I am alone - I will eat eat eat and feel it doesn't matter because no one else can see me. How messed up is that??

I am so glad to hear everything went well - I figured you would be laying low for a few days postop. I can't wait to hear all about it! I also think Dr. Geiss is awesome! He arranged for me to have an earlier consultation appointment with him. It's 12/22 now instead of 1/14! So excited!
  22. I will no longer have to shimmy sideways down a narrow isle at a store!
  23. I am 23 years old, with a BMI of over 50. I have an initial consultation with Dr. Geiss scheduled for January 12th - the earliest appointment available. I have been obsessed with this site for quite some time now, and I am so thankful for everyone who shares their experiences - I have learned so much from reading your stories. You are all so inspirational.

I know you'll do great - just keep thinking about your daughter if you get scared. She needs you to go thru with this. :tongue2: I will be thinking about you all day - please let me know ASAP when you get home, so I can hear how it went. xoxo
  25. You are SUCH an amazing inspiration. I know you hear it all the time - but I can't get over how outrageously fantastic your transformation has been!! I can only hope to be half as successful as you have been!!!
