    Do you burp a lot?

Yes, I definately burp more often. Especially in the beginning. It seems to have gotten a little better now though.

    What is this??

lillieleonard, usually the person will have alot of abdominal or chest pain and nausea and vomiting. I suffered a slipped band and I definately knew something was wrong. I could not hold down anything I ate, vomited all the time and had alot of pain in my chest.

Should Be Getting Better - Right?!

Yes, call your surgeon. If pain is too bad or symptoms persist, consider going to ER. Don't try to be a hero or stoic. Let us know how you do.

    Realize Band

I have a lap band and despite some issues I have had, I am very happy with it. I have a friend who had a realize band placed and has done really well with it. She is almost to goal! I know her experiences with restriction etc have been very similiar to mine.
  5. I agree with Mis73. Adding a protien shake is a good way to get some extra calories and nutrition. Hopefully even with a feeling offullness, you can still drink. If you can't drink in between meals than you may be too tight. Are you drinking ok?

    2 days more....

I really like Unjury protien shakes. I order it online. It is medical grade protien and it tastes good too! Much better than anything else I have tried. If you go to their website, you can order individual packets instead of a big canister. That way you can try it before investing too much!

Not sure I can help as I had to stay overnight following my surgery but I did want to wish you good luck! This is an exciting time!

    Fill pain!

I doubt that you have a slip. Usually that causes severe pain, nausea and vomiting. I had a slip and I definately knew it. I felt aweful. Definately see your doctor. They will help you figure it out. It may be that you are a smidge too tight. In between time, monitor the pain and if it gets worse or changes in some way before you see the doctor, you should seek medical treatment. Good Luck!

    Weigh in on beans

What do you think beans? Pinto beans, baked beans, lima beans, kidney beans etc. I know they have carbs but if I'm gonna eat some carbs, thy're the way I like to go! They have protien and fiber. I find them very filling and they are not a slider food for me. I know they can be for some. What are your thoughts?

    Help! I made a mistake.

Not to worry, one little slip up will not make or break your liver! I think we all worry about that fatty liver when we go in for surgery! I know the first thing I asked when I woke up was "Was my liver ok, did I shrink it enough!" That got a chuckle from my recovery room nurse! I wasn't worried about pain or anything else, my first thought was my liver. lol Turns out it was fine and I had a few slip ups before my surgery!

    Most filling foods

I get the most from my protein. I do best if I don't eat something too soft as it just seems to slide right through and thats one of the things that has gotten me into trouble. A good grilled piece of chicken does the trick for me!

    Newbie...

Surgery can be a scary thing especially the thought of having a breathing tube. But think of it this way, the tube is important to protect your airway and have a safe surgery. I've had several surgeries in my life and understand your worries. I would share those with your surgeon. Is there a support person or nurse at your bariatric center you could contact. My doctor's nurse gave me her cell number. Not all nurses are that open though lol but maybe you could meet with someone to quel your nerves.

    Do people treat you differently?

Well to a degree yes. I was within 20 pounds of goal when I originally had my band placed. I worked for a large hospital as a nursing educator and was in constant contact with a multitude of people. I left that job in 2011 and have since encountered some problems and gained nearly 100 pounds since then. I dread having to go there (which I occasionally do to teach nursing clinicals_ because when I run into people who knew me then, they seemed shocked when they see me. I know they are looking at me and thinking what happened, I thought she had a lapband. I feel like they are judging me! I've been working hard with my surgeon over the past 6 months and am close to the "green" zone and losing weight for the first time in a year!
  15. So my sweet tooth is rearing its ugly head!!!! AHHH! I think I will have a protien shake to quel the beast! I just got my Unjury in the mail today! Love the stuff. Hopefully that will work, fighting head hunger is sooooo hard. Thanks for listening to me moan.

    Getting to goal

Awesom for you! Good luck on getting to goal!

Need to get back on track!

I too am a december bandster, but mine was done in 2009! I did great initially and was almost to goal but ran into some complications, had a slip, broken band, replacement surgery etc. Ended up gaining all my weight backl plus 20 pounds! Been working with my surgeon for past few months to get me back to the green zone. Almost there and have already lost 7 pounds! I used to eat A LOT of slider foods too. It was easier that way but I have to make the choice to eat things that AREN'T so easy. What helped me to get back on track was the 5 Day Pouch Test. Google it in your browser and think about trying it. I worked well for me.
  18. Thanks for the info. I have a lapband not a realize but the info on pouch enlargment is good to know! Hope it helps Addie1978
  19. I can honestly say I have been on both sides of this issue. I originally had my band placed in December of 2009. For the first year, I loved my band. I found I did not "diet". I just ate smaller amounts, no longer binged and exercised regularly. The weight flew off. Within about 9-10 months, I had lost almost 80 pounds. I could eat anything I wanted within reason. There really were no foods off limits. I just chewed really well and it worked. The band was the best thing I ever did! I looked good but more over, I felt good. Then my gallbladder began to give me trouble and I started vomiting. Ultimately my band slipped and I developed a hiatal hernia. I had surgery to remove the gallbladder, repair the hernia and I had to have a new band put on. After that the surgeon had trouble finding my "sweet" spot. I would either be too tight or not tight enough. A problem I had never had before. I slowly began to creep up in weight. It took about 8 months but we finally found the sweet spot and things were starting to go good. Then I got sick again. I had to be hospitalized for an illness that forced the doctor to remove all the Fluid from my band again. After that I was disheartened. I hated my band! I began to gain even more weight and decided I was done with it. I went on for about six or seven months and continued to gain back my weight until I was 20 pounds heavier than when I started! Then several months ago, I was looking through some old pictures on my phone and found one of me when I had initially lost those 80 pounds and it brought back a flood of emotions! I began to remember what that girl was like when she loved her band! How she felt, the way she ate and I wanted that again. I returned to the surgeon renewed. We have been working hard to find my "sweet" spot again and are very close. I do experience some restriction and am feeling much better about my band again! I just have a few bad habits that I have developed through my troubles that I need to break. The biggest of those is drinking while I eat. I was able to do that the first go round but I need to stop as I think it has gotten in my way. (By the way, that was VERY hard to confess and see in black and white!) Thanks for reading. I hope my story does not make you doubt your decision. I have just had an interesting journey and know what it is like to both love and hate your band. I hope to keep up on this thread as I have found it very motivating. Thanks to all who have posted.

  22. My name is Jessica and I have had my band for what will be two years in December of this year and I am a measly 11 pounds less than my presurgery weight After my surgery in 2009 I was doing great. I was losing weight and eventually reached a loss of 80 pounds by the fall of 2010. It was wonderful and I was only 20 pounds from my goal weight , then my band slipped and I had to have it removed and a new one placed. I have steadily regained much of that weight in the year since I was rebanded. I contantly sabatoge myself and eat around my band! I need help refocusing and getting back on track. If there is a successful and positive person out there who can and is willing to help me, I am willing to listen and give it all I have to be successful! Thanks Jessica
  23. I had my band slip last fall. I was rebanded and it has taken a loooooong time to get back on track. In fact I gained back about 60 of the 80 pounds I lost after being banded initially. I, however, have reached a much better balance and am back to losing. Just wondering if anyone else out there had an post slippage experiences to share?

    Fill right before flying

I too get REALLY tight when I fly and often get very sick. I usually have to get an unfill before I go anywhere. I also agree with the others that you should wait until after your vacation to have a fill. You never know what troubles you will encounter while you are miles away from your surgeon!
  25. So I was just wondering what the consensus was out there about using a straw. I know I was told not to as I would take in too much air. I have not noticed this, however, I can't chew gum. That does make me take in too much air. How do you fellow bandsters out there deal with straws?
