Does Anyone know About BCBS of NJ

I have the same Insurance you do. I used dr. abkin and Dr. bertha and my insurance came back in 12 days i was so shocked. I thought for sure since I had no comorbidities that they would deny me, but all you have to do is ask. It was very very easy to get them to cover this. I paid nothing but they copay for my surgery and nothing for my fills either. The only bad thing is that they make you wait 90 days in between each fill which sucks. Good luck and I hope you hear the great news soon.

I was banded 10/17/06 the first 2 weeks following surgery I lost 17 pounds. As of right now you would never even know that I had the surgery to begin with. I am assuming due to the change in my food choices I have not gained a pound but have not lost a pound either. My doctor says its normal once the swelling goes down and no fill but my insurance wont cover a fill until 1/30/07. I was just wondering how all of you coped with the none weight loss. I just don't want to gain any weight before my fill.
  6. Unfortunately I too have to wait the 8 weeks and right now am feeling no restriction. I was starting to think that maybe this wasn't gonna work for me but read through this site and found out that most people don't feel restriction till after their first fill. Good Luck

    I'm new!

Welcome to Bandland! It's a great place for information. Whether it be asking questions or just looking through alot of the older posts. I am 33 and was just currently banded about a month ago. I took an entire year to research the band and fiqure out what i wanted to do. I even dieted the entire year and gained 14 pounds. That was my kick in the butt. I couldn't do it alone. I had been heavy since i was 5, and struggled all my life. I wanted to learn to be healthy and by me having the band I knew I would have to do it. Thats where it came for me. Anything you want info on for this surgery is out there, but it doesn't make the decision for you. Good luck
  8. I see alot of you here have been banded for quite some time now and with really great results. I am a few days away from hitting my first month with the band and am starving. I lost 17 pounds the first 2 weeks and since then nothing, but I haven't gained either. I was just wondering if it will be like this until I get my first fill. When does the restriction start and when will I feel full. My next dr. appt is not until December and I'm exerciseing myself to death for nothing. 9. I just wanted to say welcome to bandland and have a great dr for you. I was banded on 10/17/06 about 2 weeks ago by dr. abkin. He is located in florham park, nj and he is absolutely wonderful. I took about 15 months to research the band, the dr i choose and the surgery itself. He has a sense of humor, easy on the eyes, and is a damn great surgeon. You will love him. He works out of Morristown Hospital and Saint Clares Hospital in Dover. Good Luck Tigger33 Banded 10/17/06 Dr. Abkin Saint Clares Hospital, Dover

  12. huberslave - I just had my surgery done and would be glad to answer any questions you have. I know before I had mine done I had alot and alot of personal questions too. When I woke up from surgery I was more groggy than anything. I just wanted to go to sleep. No Pain at all. After drinking the barium solution to have xray to make sure no leakage then i hurt a little. more like discomfort, and let me tell you as soon as you say discomfort they load you up with percaset so then you just fall asleep anyway. All bathroom and showering duties I did on my own with no pain. Setting up not hard but getting up from a lying position was tough. I have more gas pain in my shoulders and chest from the co2 they pumped in me than from the band. I have been taking tylenol for 2 days now and I feel ok. I was out shopping the very next day. You have to get up and walk as much as possible. My dr. told me not to be picking up anything over 20 pounds until my 2 week visit. Can't tell you much about the food because i'm still on liquid diet for a little bit longer but i hope this helps. I have a really bad fear of needles and hospitals but it wasn't what i thought at all. It was very easy for someone like me. It took me 18 months to decide and now i wish i had done it earlier. GOOD LUCK and let us all know. Tigger 33 banded 10/17/06 Dr. Abkin St. Clares Hospial
