  1. Happy 39th Birthday nokaoi!

  2. Happy 38th Birthday nokaoi!

  3. I was banded on 11-19-09...overnight in the hospital and went home next morning, incisions no issues, but I had this vicious stabbing pain in my left shoulder running up my neck. I told the Dr before I left the hospital and I told all the nurses...everyone said it was the gas they used during surgery and that it would go away. A week went by and then 2 and I still had the pain (although not as bad but still horrible worse when I ate) so I went in to see the Dr about it ...this time he thought I was having esophageal spasms and that with time it would go away....I then went back for my 5/6 week chk and again I complained about this horrific pain in the top of my left shoulder shooting up the side of my neck like someone stabbing me. It happens everytime I take in food or drink. With food it lasts longer...now the Dr and his nurse both said they had no one else complaining about this kind of pain and had no idea what it was....( it is now only when I eat) Fast forward to the present...last week I was searching the net as to possible causes and came across others who have the same problem and they turned me on the Vagus Nerve which runs down the esophagus and along the length of the stomach. From what I can figure it is being pinched either by the band itself or from the hyatal hernia he fixed during surgery. Now I find out that damage to this nerve can cause your voice to go hoarse and even stop, can cause heart palpitations, depression, pain in the neck and other things. Please if anyone who reads this has the same problem---get in touch with me I want to hear from you --I also want to know what can be done about this, short of removal of the band (which I do not want) --so please write and let me know:confused:... thanks for reading

Shoulder pain related to Vagus Nerve?

The pain is from the vagus nerve being pinched by the band or by the flp of stomach that is sewed around the band during the surgery to hold the band in place. IT IS NOT FROM GAS....which seems to be the canned response from most surgeons and their staff....IT NEVER GOES AWAY...my surgery was 11-19-09 and I still have the pain IT IS HORRIBLE keeps me from ever eating properly --- I take 2 bites and am in such pain I have to go throw up what I have eaten...it takes about 40 min to start again to eat ... by this time my food is cold and it is everything I can do to eat at all...mostly I throw it away. Also anything sugar free I eat gives me HORRENDOUS gas....I swell up and it litterly ruins my day it is so bad...I can't go anywhere if I drink the Protein drinks or eat sugar free....stuff I see now is tied to this Vagus nerve....

26 Pre-op!!...getting nervous and mind is wondering...

I have to tell everyone on here if you are given a choice of the lapband or the gastric sleeve......do yourself a favor and choose the sleeve....it is much more effective and alot less complicated and not as much pain......you will lose weight more effectively permanently....

Still having gas pain in shoulder??

I still have pain and it is not GAS like they try to tell you it is....I had lapband 11-19-09 and I am still hurting...it is so bad I want to just cuss and scream ...and hit the f--kin surgeon that did this to me...:w00t:..then when I went back multiple times complaining about this horrible pain he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about and had nvr had any other patients complain about this before...which now I see is bullshit....since there are many on here who have the same thing.

Still having gas pain in shoulder??

I have still the same thing...although it was much worse right after surgery it is now just when i eat some foods and if I wait to long to have something and eat a bit too fast..it hurts worse than labor pains and shoots up the side of neck and the top of my shoulder on the left side. I made several trips and calls to my surgeon complaining about the same but he pretended to not have a clue as to why I was having this pain. NEVER NEVER was the Vagus nerve mentioned....I don't know what to do to fix it.
  12. :w00t:I am 3 days post surgery and the only pain I have ever had is from being intubated during surgery. The incisions are tender but my neck and throat are feeling like someone tried to strangle me!!! The muscles in my neck is in constant spasm and my trachea hurts like someone crushed it....it hurts to speak, it hurts to look downward to read, it hurts to lay down in bed...I have started taking motrin for the pain 800mg takes the edge off but this is serious pain....what could they have possibly done to me to make it hurt this long and this bad? Please tell me when this will go away!!! thanks for any help
