I decided to have weight loss surgery when my mother had gastric bypass surgery a few years ago. In december of 2007 i was unemployed for 6 months and was only gaining weight sitting around the house. I was 350 pounds and felt too large to do anything. So I went to a seminar at Saints Mary and Elizabeth hospital in Louisville, KY. I decided the lap band surgery was a good choice for me and filled out the paper work. It was a smooth process for me, as I hear a lot of people are made to jump through hoops to get any kind of weight loss surgery. Although I did have to jump through one or two, it wasn't too bad. My insurance required a written letter of recomendation for the surgery from my family doctor, I didnt have one. When I found one, she made me do a few things which seemed like her making sure I spent some money. She didnt like my EKG so she made me visit a heart specialist that charged me 1800 dollars to tell me that she was nuts and there was nothing wrong with my EKG. After finally convincing her that my surgeon just needed the letter to get me approved, she wrote it, and my insurance company approved me within a few weeks. I was scheduled for surgery a month after my approval. The surgery went fine and i went home the same day a few hours later. Sore, but not incredibly painful recovery. I had my surgery on a wednesday and was back to work on saturday.
