I've always had problems with weight since finishing university in the late 80s, though even in the high-200s, it hasn't prevented me from being active until recently. Before some recent back and neck problems, I was still running 5 Kms 3 times a week with some weight training added, and I was eating well, but total lack of portion control was my downfall. Following some back problems earlier this year which sidelined me for a while, my weight ballooned to 320 and my doctor suggested I look into LAP Band surgery as my employer was funding the surgery for a limited number of people as a trial. That was an offer I couldn't refuse...
