  1. Gas pain can cause the shoulder and chest pains too. Maybe you have a gas bubble stuck in your band. My Dr says that Mylanta/gas works better than the gas strips. You might give that a try. Hope it gets better soon. And congrats on the baby!
  2. You are exactly right. Good and bad Dr.'s everywhere. I'm so glad you found one you liked and could trust and that was affordable for you. How are you doing with your recovery. I'm feeling great. Problem is I feel zero restriction! I get my first fill January 11th.
  3. Good luck today! I'll be thinking of you!

  4. Welcome Tom! I wish you well on your journey. I'm glad you picked a Dr. In most cases when you are self pay, it goes pretty quick. I financed my surgery with CareCredit. It had a reasonable rate (9% i think). The terms are for 5 years but I should be able to pay it off this year I hope. I'm almost 2 weeks post op and feel great. I'm glad I did this!

My Dr. said Clear Liquids the day before surgery and then nothing after midnight. Good luck to you!
  6. Did your daughter get to her goal? I'm so ready to get there! I'm excited that I'm seeing some weight loss and I can just "taste the prize" LOL!
  7. I would have gone to Mexico but one my best friends is a Dr. and she told my husband that she really thought I should get it done by a local Dr. I tried to talk him into letting me go to Mexico but he said if I wanted it done, I had to do it here. It was 15,500! Yikes!
  8. Malley Surgical in Kansas City is 16,500 with everything covered the first year. He also runs specials from time to time and I got mine for 15,500.
  9. I was allowed mushies after surgery so don't worry too much. I remember on the 5-6 day that I was more hungry that I have ever been in my life. I don't think this is an indicator, I think this was your body trying to survive on such little food. You are commited, don't let anyone tell you that your not or put doubts in your mind about how sucessful you will be. If others can do this, so can you! Keep your chin up!
  10. Yes, I'm recovered! I'm eatting some real foods like meat loaf and chili and potato soup. Still trying to keep it soft but I feel completely normal. I get to start a full normal diet this Thursday!

I hope that your recovery is as quick! Please let me know how it goes. I know that I read that you also quit smoking! Wow! You are a super star to be dieting and quit smoking at the same time. Good for you!

  11. I would also like to know what others feel are hard to eat. I want to stay away from problem foods!
  12. Productive Burb. You get something stuck and then your throat starts producing mucus (some call it slimeing) and then you burb the food and mucus back up. Sometime after a long period of time waiting for it to come up. I guess it's pretty uncomfortable. I'm not on solid food yet so I have no experience with this yet. It's my understanding that almost everyone banded has this happen from time to time.
  13. Hi! I didn't gain but I did not loose weight the days I was on liquid. I think your body panics and is affraid it needs the fat to live off of! Once I went to mushie food, I started seeing the scale go down! As far as what I'm eating, I made meatloaf and mashed potatos one night, chili another night and I have baked potato soup in the crock pot now. I have also had refried Beans with hamburger meat and cheese on it. I have had eggs and yogurt.

Bounser, That sounds scarry. I'm glad you are home and will be thinking of you over the next couple days. It gets better fast! Illuminationlady, Been thinking of you. Good luck. I know you have been very anxious for "your" day!
  15. Hi Cat Lady! I would ask how big the incisions are going to be. Maybe he is talking about an "open surgery" rather than laprascopic. I have 5 incisions but 3 are so small (millimeters really) My other 2 are less than an inch long. Good luck to you and check back and let us know what he says! Diet coke is not tollerated well in the band. It's fine if it's flat but the fizzy is uncomfortable for most people and most doctors don't want you to have it. But who really wants flat diet coke. :willy_nilly:
  16. I'm 1 and 1/2 weeks post opp and I"m eatting soft foods. Next week I can go to regular foods.
  17. I had a few moments of panic before the surgery about it I was doing the right thing. I mean no diet coke FOREVER seems pretty hard core. Then it hit me, I NEED HARD CORE. I have gained and lost the weight more times than I can count and I don't want to do that anymore. so Hard Core it is! Of course I'm sure most of us are private pay because insurance won't pay for our BMI so I felt a little selfish asking my husband to shell out the cash when he already provides for me to stay at home. I got over it because I knew he would like the results! LOL!
  18. Let me know how it went! I'm sure you will be up and around in a day or two!

  19. The gas pain is the worst for sure! I hope you feel better soon!

  20. Sorry! I don't know how to use this site very well and just realized you had posted these messages to me! I'm doing very well. I'm glad to hear that you are too. The gas pain was the worst IMO! I'm down 15 pounds to I'm thrilled about that!!!

  21. I was on liquid for 5 days, soups and cottage cheese, yougurt, mashed potatos, for 3 days and now I'm on to meatloaf and beans, chicken if it's extra moist and thinks like that. I feel some what back to normal and I'm only 8 days post op.

    shrinking

Aww, that's the first to get smaller but don't worry, the rest of you will be right behind those tatas! I'm going to get a lift after I get to goal so if they are too small, they can do implants too! :-0
  23. I'm so glad I did it too. I had a couple days of panic before the surgery but I kept reminding myself that I have a lot of years left and I want to live them happy. It's a huge change and you have to learn how to eat again. It's kind of hard core. That said, I need hard core, I need a true lifestyle change and the band is perfect for me because it's always there to remind you of the right thing to do! Good luck with what ever you decide.
  24. Wow! your blog looks great! I can't wait to read it when I have some extra time. Congrats on how far you have come and I can't wait to "join you"!
  25. Wow! 30 pounds in two months. I hope I can do that well! Congrats! I appriciate the support from this thread. I'm sooooo glad I'm not the only one doing it with a lower BMI. It feels weird to say Lower BMI when I obviously felt I was pretty fat to do this!
