Hi! I came across your post on a threat asking about tricare approval. I too have Tricare Reserve Select, I'm in the West region. It was honestly really easy for me. Just like having any kind of insurance, I went to my family Dr, she put in a referrel to a bariatric surgeon. I went to a consultation for the, they did lots of testing, finally sent the lap band approval to Tricare, and Tricare approved it in 3 days! It was simple for me, others I've heard have had issues. It's important to meet their requirements, either 100 lbs. overweight WITH an associated medical condition OR 200% of the ideal weight for your height, in other words twice as much as you should weight. I fell into the 200% category...5'2" and 235 lbs. Hope all goes well for you!
