Dr has hard time finding port
Queen Fig replied to marmar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had the doctor fill me all three times because the attempts of the nurse have failed all three times! I don't even have a fat stomach, and both of them root around like it's not even in the neighborhood! Once it's in, it's no problem, but the pain has brought tears to my eyes each time. "A small sting and a stick" my a@#! -
I completely identify with how you feel! I was STARVING 2 days post op and pretty much felt that way for weeks. Each fill will bring you closer to eating less and not feeling hungry all the time. I just went for my 3rd fill and the nurse told me that I should be losing 4 lbs/month. I wish someone had told me that before because then my expectations would not have been so high! I try to focus on the fact that I would not have lost a pound each week without the band. You are in the worst stage right now. If you are anything like me, you willpower is not that great, but that's kind of what you are relying on now. Don't stress out. It DOES get better, but be prepared to practice patience until your fills kick in. Good Luck!

8 weeks banded and No weight loss.
Queen Fig replied to kity1_cat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am right there with you! I was banded on Nov. 17th and when I went home, I had lost about 18lbs from pre-op diet and Clear Liquids only. I haven't lost a pound since. I had my first fill on Dec. 17th, but still did not feel restriction. Occasionally something gets stuck, but I can eat way more than I know I am supposed to. I started journaling food again - which I SWORE I would never do again, and I am eating too many calories, but I am hungry all the time. I still think I am eating less than I did before surgery, so I feel like I should be losing. I do need to exercise more too. However, what I am doing is, again, more than I was doing before. I am thinking about calling for another fill before my next one is scheduled on 1/29. Good Luck. I keep telling myself that this is going to work, but it's hard to believe when the scale is not moving. -
I feel better knowing that somebody else has 6cc on their first fill. I hope you have better restriction than I do! I just had my fill on Thursday and I don't feel ANY different. Don't get another until the end of January. I read that it can take up to 2 weeks to feel the effect of a fill....I wonder why that is? Anyway, good luck. By the way, mine hurt too. The nurse poked around and couldn't get the needle in the port, so the doctor tried. I was like, "Ow...um...OW!!!!" And we pay them the big bucks, right!?!?!?!?

I was confused today when I went to get my first fill. Before the fill, the nurse told me that most people hit their sweet spot at around 5cc. Well, apparently when the surgeon did a prefill on me during surgery, he already put in 5cc, so now I am up to six. I have been starving before this first fill, does the fact that I already have 6cc mean that I am going to have a problem getting good restriction? Dr. didn't seemed concerned, but he only met with me VERY briefly. By the way, port was VERY sore, so finding port with needle HURT!!!

Queen Fig replied to PrincipalsOffice's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi! I was banded Tuesday and was e-mailing the dietician by Friday asking for full liquids. My stomach was GROWLING! She said to start early on protein drinks and yogurt. I was elated! Now I do mainly protein drink, yogurt and soup and I am stuffed after only a few sips/bites. -

New here and worried about Tuesday. I made the mistake of reading a website basically called "Everything that can go wrong with the lap band and people who want to share their stories." What a downer. I have been reading HERE about all the successes, so I hope that I am going to do well without any complications!:wink2: -
