Do people always need a fill?
flychica replied to MissMelissa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I know we're all different but sometimes its nice to see how others are doing and compare a little. Haha. How has your weight loss gone? Are you losing the 1-2 lbs per week or is it even more? Can't wait to get to the sweet spot. And even though it feels so slow for me...happy to know I'm losing weight each week, even if its just 1 lb or so a week. -
Hey ladies...how is everyone doing? I'm good...been doing pretty well w/ the fill I got on the 20th but definitely think I may need one more. I go back in on the 4th...

Hummingbird, are you still at good restriction w/ the two fills? I go back for my 3rd fill on the 4th and to be honest, I feel pretty good right now. I have about 4.4 in my band. I'm really not that hungry but then again, this is only a week out. I'll see how I'm feeling come next week as I get closer to the 4th to see if I need it. I think I'm nearing my sweet spot with just the few fills. -
Was almost to "sweetspot", got a fill, and now NOTHING!!

My understanding is your not supposed to eat til you feel discomfort. But if your not getting full with this new fill, then best bet is to talk to the doctor. Its strange...and as someone else mentioned, it could mean a leak (hopefully not) and hopefully in the next few days it kicks in as others mentioned. I'm not sure...still in the beginning stages myself. -

I guess thats what it is, some times for people its hard to know the difference. Or turn it off. LOL. And I also think people fall into that mindset that getting the fills is going to stop it from happening altogether. I know thats the point, to get fills to be at that point but I also know that my mind ain't there either...and I read about it often on here, others thinking the lapband is the fix all to it... I'm going to be honest, restriction doesn't feel like nothing to me. Thats why we have those steps......on eating slowly and measuring, etc. Hell I'm still learning but I also know its not going to fix that "I'm Hungry" feeling.......and I've caught myself saying, I'm hungry when my body isn't saying it. Plus she said...she can eat anything, so I'm trying to understand what she's getting at, is it that because she knows she can still eat anything and she's doing it or is it the hopes that the restriction will force her to stop doing it. -

I need to understand...you can eat anything? Well what are you trying to stop from coming through? I thought restriction was basically getting to the point where you eat less due to feeling fuller quicker with less food... I mean technically, I can eat anything......as in any type of food. I have no issue with breads or rice, etc. However, I had my 2nd fill this week and I can feel that the restriction is keeping me from eating a whole plate like I was doing prior. But also, part of it is up to me to decide......and know, I need to stop eating. And I know with me, since I'm in the beginning...their still adding cc's...I'm at 4.4. I'm just trying to get an idea of what your aiming for in regards to the sweetspot. Are you expecting the hunger pains to go away completely? Because thats just not going to happen....and even the nurse I seen at my 2nd fill said the "hunger" feeling will never fully go away. -
Its funny you mentioned the chicken...this whole time I never had issues. Then I got my 1st fill a few weeks ago, had chicken...and I guess it was too dry and yep, had my first vomiting episode. It was the worst feeling in the world! My suggestion is chill on the chicken and if you decide to go back and try it again, make sure its moist....or use a sauce. And chew very very well...be cautious. LOL.

Sabatoging my progress......
flychica replied to deb12983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Deb, I'm sorry your doing this.....in the past 2 weeks I have found myself eating breads, rice.....whatever, and even last night, I probably shouldn't have ate pizza but I did. I know its not good, but I did it anyway. I realized last night though....I was finishing it off, just to finish it off and I wasn't hungry. I was bored. Go figure. Today starts as a fresh new day, a new day to make better decisions. I hope you find that motivation back...and realize that you can stop it. Obviously your recognizing that your doing it.......so whats the next step? Stopping it...or as someone else mentioned, allow yourself some of the things you've been craving but in moderation. -
Hello everyone... I'm Amanda, I'm 29...and I was banded in November. I have 3 kiddos as well and I'm Texas. How is everyone? I haven't been on the boards themselves lately and probably because I feel bad about what I've been eating......which is almost everything. I really thought I'd have issues with eating certain foods and thats not the case. I probably need another fill. But I am still losing at least 1-2 lbs. I guess its just guilt. LOL. How are you all doing? Its definitely exciting getting going...

Is it normal to "not feel" hungry...a lot at first w/ a fill?
flychica posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know thats the feeling they want us to have, satiety. However, I feel like mine is the extreme. I had my first fill last Tuesday but seriously.......I just feel no need to eat. Now mind you, thats my bad habits in the past. I could on my own go for long periods w/ out eating, and then over do it once I do eat. I guess making up for the lack of eating all day. I know its a bad habit, but even today...I had a bowl of Cereal, which in a way I had to force myself to eat because I literally do not feel hungry. I kind of feel like I could not eat for awhile and know I could. Yesterday I only ate twice, a late lunch (like 2:30pm) and something for dinner around 8pm. And fact is, I probably could have ate dinner and been okay. Is this just part of the restriction from getting my fill? -
Short-Term Disability Approval/Denial
flychica replied to alicia3138's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand where your coming from, however I'm not sure if you even seen the original posts she has now deleted, that basically stated her intent of defrauding and pretty much how she could careless. But in regards to the Actuaries...as someone who currently works LTC claims and works close to our Actuarial Department, yes...they use figures and such to decide what amount to set aside for the possibility.....fact remains, they are using the fact of inflation going up, but fraud from not only the provider and consumers is driving this figure up. So to say it doesn't on STD is not true. It does on all products for insurance and is a very valid argument considering she was basically blatant w/ stating she had intentions. So just because Actuarial had accounted for it 5 years ago...doesn't mean that it had zero affect on the premiums and rates.....that there proves it did. The end, it still doesn't make it right and has eventually affected everyone in the long run. And I, like others who were on here in the beginning were not GANGING up on her. I come direct and thats all I others were doing. She was also the one coming at all of us talking about women with 7 children by 7 different daddies and stereotyping people.... Anywho......I'm done on this topic. -

Get your head out of the gutter...LOL. My hubby does the same thing when I say STD. Then asks what it means to make sure. Haha. -

flychica replied to alicia3138's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL. Thats pretty much what she did...so even then reporting her to Metlife would be useless at this point because she realized what she put done was not good...if someone was to take it to them and deleted all of the bad stuff she put. Haha. No biggie to me though... -
is this what stuck feels like?
flychica replied to Peony245's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats about the same for me......and usually within 15-20 minutes either it goes down or has come back up (rare). I suggest walking around...cause going down is better. -

flychica replied to alicia3138's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I said I could, didn't mean I was doing it or planned to. Like you, I feel what comes around goes around and the end result is most likely she will be denied STD for the length of 6 weeks. As someone else mentioned above, there's usually a 7-14 day waiting period....so in the end, she would still be using her PTO. LOL. And yes, she was telling us its not like she's a welfare mom with 7 kids by 7 different fathers.....abusing the system, etc. etc. You missed the key posts from her. LOL. She probably went back and deleted them because she realized how she looked. -
I have United Health and was required to stay overnight. On top of it I was the first person that day that got surgery. I wasn't sure until right after the surgery was done that I was staying the night. Talk about not being prepared. But it was worth it to me, as a mom of 3 kiddos.....it gave me the chance to relax, get my pain meds and not worry about the house, kids, etc. The nurse/dr's said I had to stay if I wanted my insurance to pay for it, as well. No big deal.

Well if she needs a mental health break then, she should use up all her Sick Time/PTO or Vacation. Whatever is available with her company or start a new claim specific to her mental issues. As someone who actually processes claims on the side of the insurance company......not an HR administrator. I know for a FACT what is required to meet those eligibility requirements to be approved for receiving benefits. So MD or NOT.....I do know what is needed to get a claim approved and a check paid out for that time period. Being an HR admin is totally different from actually having all of the policy language in your face...compared to a basic summary and believe, most people even Agents that sell these policies do not completely understand most medical, dental, life, std/ltd or even ltc policies. Fact is......even she, the OP was questioning whether it would be approved and seemed to fear it would be denied. Because Metlife was calling to ask questions on why she needed 6 weeks off considering she works a desk job. That there put red flags up for the claims examiners. No one is saying that she shouldn't use the benefit, but she admitted it had nothing to do with medical necessity. It had to do with "not wanting to be at work". And depending on the company, some employers pay for the STD/LTD in full for their employee's...or some pay majority and the employee's pay a portion. Just depends what they give their employee's. The point is......IT STILL DRIVES UP COSTS FOR ALL PARTIES involved. So as someone with just an opinion..........if she truly "medically needs" the 6 weeks, she should make use of it. But at the end of it all.....Metlife will make that decision and if I wanted to be real funny, believe I could contact their fraud department....send them this thread and I'm sure they will find out who she really is and her real reasons for wanting STD. Heck, anyone could. I would have gave her the same benefit of the doubt if she didn't start throwing out the remarks she did...specifically about defrauding. -
So here's the deal...I know when I did my consultation for the lap band they weighed me, that was in September. That technically was my highest weight ever. However, two months later once I had my surgery...I had lost 5lbs. So what weight do I use as my starting weight? I only ask because I noticed when I went to get my fill at the doctors, they were going off my surgery weight and subtracting. I kind of want to be on the same track as them. So what weight? Basically for me its a 5 pound difference. And I'm pretty sure that I lost those 5 pounds from the 2 week pre-op diet. Thoughts? Thanks.

I'm glad I came across this thread...I was planning on getting the Wii Fit for my new Wii.......but I want something thats going to actually cause me to sweat. I'll definitely check out the EA Active before the fit.

Telling people, Judgements, and Accountability with the Band
flychica replied to tarajim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've told everyone....family, close-friends, co-workers (heck, some co-workers have it) and FB/internet friends. I hold no shame in my decision and my journey (and thats not poking at anyone else personally in their choice). And pretty much don't care what others think to worry about their judgment. If they have thoughts on it negatively, no one has said anything. In fact, I've had some friends and strangers hit me up personally to ask questions on it. At work, the only examples were extreme bad examples of people who had it. So some co-workers were concerned for me, because they seen me eating things others who had the surgery were not. I had to explain to them that I'm okay, and what they see of me and another co-worker is the usual w/ the lap band. -
What weight to start from?

Okay, well then I will stick w/ my consultation weight. Thanks everyone! -

Being a person who works and has worked for insurance companies........your defrauding. And to put it out here on the web is even more crazier. You are one of those people that drive the cost up for EVERYONE! I don't care if you pay into it, this is the reason all insurance has gone up in premiums. Lord...I was off for 4 days w/ my PTO, if you don't want to work, freaking quit your job! And let someone who's on unemployment or one of those "single mama's" on welfare w/ the 7 kids....do the job you don't feel like doing. What a lousy excuse.....use all the stereotypes and all the b/s of what others may be doing to justify your reason for frauding insurance. LOL. I swear...people. -
A little motivation (before/after pics...let's see 'em!)
flychica replied to juliansmom2003's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shoot...I hope I lose that much in two months as well. LOL. You look good...definitely pull pics out, I've been taking pics as well...and my fam/friends can see the difference in just a month and a half. -
Yeah, your only about a week behind me...see what the doctor suggests, etc. Some of the ladies at my job have had the surgery too and suggested literally taking a 1/2 cup or 1 cup measuring cup and measuring out their food to control the portions their eating. I haven't gone there yet....but I'm sure its in my future if things stall and its really time for me to change it up. Right now, since I'm taking in less calories...its burning up. But I'm losing maybe 1-2lbs a week if I'm lucky. I go on Tuesday for my first fill.

Yeah, stop weighing every day. I wasn't weighing myself everyday...mainly because I didn't have a scale but now I do thanks to someone getting one for Christmas. LOL. I understand how hard it is, at first......as soon as I woke up in the morning and used the restroom I'd weigh myself......now I've kind of stopped. Just doing my best not to get caught up in the numbers, even though thats the biggest thing for us........seeing the results. Try to just weigh in like once a week, I've been doing mine on Saturday mornings. I will admit, I've been eating kind of what I want...no fast food or sodas, or overdoing the bread intake. I just wanted to make sure I give myself that opportunity to enjoy the holidays. No pressure. Mainly, maintaining the weight...rather than losing at this point and then after the first of the year...focus on really losing. Don't beat yourself up...can't figure it out overnight and you will learn.
