My huband has had a bump from day 1. We call it his baseball. Mine however, even the Dr has a hard time finding. I think it depends on the person, where the port is and how you lose weight.

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Gained 40lbs in 8 months
CrabbyCrab replied to lyndi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't gone through this (just got banded in May), but I do have a friend who had her band emptied and gained a significant amount of weight. She had no restriction and had no idea she'd done it. Since then, she's had her band replaced and refilled (slowly) and the weight is coming off all over again. Just hang in there and take it one day at a time. You can do this! -
Cool! Maybe I'll start (again) tomorrow too. I've started it in the past. I gave up a little over a week ago, after a dr apt that didn't go too well. I haven't really had motivation to do any kind of excersize....

Finally! I'm down a size!!
CrabbyCrab replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats!!!!!! I'm down about 30 lbs and am not down a size yet :cursing: It's ok though My jeans are getting loose...the size smaller is still too small, but my old stretched out jeans (the ones that I was wearing when they were a bit snug) are now loose enough for me to pull them off without unbuttoning LOL Keep up the good work!!!! -
Finally broke the 240 mark

My second fill and feel no difference
CrabbyCrab replied to rpm2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to my world! I think it's part of banster hell...before you reach restriction. I have 4cc's in a 10cc band and was able to eat a whole grilled chicken salad from Arthur Treachers today (just balsamic vinegar, no oil)...and I probably could have kept eating. I'm sorry I don't have any words of wisdom, but you're not alone. Hang in there!! I hear it takes 3-4 fills before reaching decent restriction. -
Frustrated and feel like I'm on a "diet"!
CrabbyCrab posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, so I thought one of the benefits of being banded is that you don't have to "diet" just make better food choice and work out and the "tool" will help. I have 4cc's in a 10cc band and had an apointment last week. It's been 6 weeks since my last apointment, I've been walking/jogging at least 3 times a week (doing the C25k and taking my dogs out for more walks) and drinking 2-3 liters of Water a day...and I actually went up a pound! They wouldn't do a fill because they don't think it's how much I'm eating, it's what I'm eating. So they ask what I eat and I give them a worst day example and got a lecture about how bad it is. Apparently a whole wheat wrap (100 cals, 13 carbs, 11 protein) with less than a serving of Peanut Butter and less than a quarter cup of Kashi go lean is a bad choice. IF I don't bring lunch with me, I either get broiled/grilled chichen fingers or egg/ham/lowfat cheese whole wheat wrap, again, not good. For dinner we usually have chicken or fish - made without any kind of oil - surprisingly they were ok with this. They want me to eat between 900 and 1000 calories - so now they want me to count all my calories and increase my working out to 4-5 times a week. I'm upset, I feel like I'm on a diet - which then makes me want to eat EVERYTHING. Any advice? Thoughts? Encouraging words? -
Frustrated and feel like I'm on a "diet"!
CrabbyCrab replied to CrabbyCrab's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you everyone!!! Believe it or not, I feel a lot better now. At the dr's office I asked if I could make an apt. in 3 weeks instead of 6 - if I change my eating and it's not helping. The dr was clear that I can NOT see her till 6 weeks, but I can come in and talk to the Nurtitionist in 3 if I want. I wrote down everything I ate Sunday and Monday, and like I always do on a very restricted diet...ended up binging yesterday (tried to eat smart foods, but couldn't resist some bad ones). Turn out that after binging, I lost 2 lbs! It's so confusing! All I can think is that my body needed that to realize I'm not starving it. I also stopped excersizing after my Dr. apointment. I will get back into it, but right now I don't have the umph to do it. My sister has weight watchers online, i was considering doing it for a while. One of the main reasons I too got the band is so that I can be "normal" and pretty much eat what everyone else is eating, just less of it...this counting every calorie is killing me. -
Hi! I had my surgery on May 13 and my first fill last wednesday (July 7). After my fill I actually felt like i had LESS restriction than before! I called my Dr's office and gave them a run down of what I ate and how I felt. They got me in today for my second fill. Initially they said there was a little Fluid in my band from surgery, but not much. Last week they put in 3cc's. This week I'm up to 4cc's. I really hope I get some restriction from it! I'm down about 25lbs from presurgery. My husband is down 70 (20 before surgery, 50 since) and has yet to have a fill. I think it just depends on the person.

How to deal with not so positive people...
CrabbyCrab replied to Buggie1369's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
if you don't want to tell your aunt, dont! If you do want to tell people, but want to stop anyting negative before she starts with it you can try telling them something along the lines of what I told my mom (3 days before surgery lol). Basically I said "I am having lapband surgery and while I appreciate everyones concerns and thoughts, if they aren't going to be supportive of MY decision, then I don't want to hear it. It was my decision to make, I made it on my own, and it wasn't made lightly and it isn't the easy way out as some people think. I don't mind questions because I know you don't know a lot about it, but please don't try to talk me out of it, it wont work and like I said, it was MY decision. I need positive and support and if you can't do that, that's fine, but I don't want to hear it" It went surprisingly well. I had to be firm in the way I told her and of course there were a million questions but I'm 2 weeks post op and she's been nothing but supportive (my sister too...and her initial reaction was "you're crazy"). Good luck!! -
My husband had that issue with peeing for a lil bit after surgery. It went away within a week. What you're feeling sounds like your port. I get the same thing and had a hard time describing the feeling...but that definately describes it. And I know mine is my port.

10 days Post op and down 22 POUNDS and feeling GREAT!

Congrats! I was reading the scared thread for a while, so I'm soooo glad to see that it's working out now -
So my husband is on the puree/mushy stage and my dr told me I can join him. Last night we made our first real dinner. Broiled Cod, sweet potato and low fat homemade creamed spinach. I'm just over a week post op and he's just over two weeks. We didn't think we had any restriction because Soups and pureeded soups haven't kept us full long. Well, we probably had about three bites of fish, not even a quarter of the sweet potato we split and a little spinach and we were both stuffed!!!!! I hope this lasts  Being from a big italian family I need to relearn how to cook...SMALL PORTIONS! lol

Not sure if I should be concerned
CrabbyCrab replied to Nean4488's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd say don't blow up at them because you are ok, but I would send the email. What if you ended up with an infection because they didn't dress the incision correctly. -
I was banded 5/13 (just over a week ago). Yesterday I lifted something that was heavier than I thought it was going to be. I felt a pull where my port is and since then I keep getting a dull but really bad pain in my port area. Like stop what I'm doing and just put pressuer on the area type of pain. The pain is not constant. My port area is not red, hot or swollen. Any ideas or suggestions? I feel like an idiot! If I realized it was that heavy I never would have lifted it  I was going to wait until Monday and if it's still hapening call the dr. Do you think I should call sooner?

nervous and discouraged
CrabbyCrab replied to jllybean1982's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its called bandster hell. You were just banded (like me) and I have to listen to what I tell other poeple...these first 6 weeks are not for losing, they are for healing...anything you lose is a bonus! Once you've had a fill or two, then you will start to actually lose. Hang in there and good luck! There are others of us going through it too!! -
I give - ending six week post-op diet four days early...
CrabbyCrab replied to Katy517's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dr does a 2 week liquid diet then 2 week puree then 2 week mishies after your surgery. My post op was one week after surgery and she told me I can move onto the next stage two days later (which is not the full 14 days on liquids). I'd say talk to your dr, tell them you're hungry and going insane  Chances are you're healed to the poin that you can move onto puree/mushies -
Should I be worried?
CrabbyCrab replied to CrabbyCrab's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you! That made me feel better. I was afraid I might have done something really really bad. If I still have pain today I'll call in the morning. (so far, no pain today - keeping my fingers crossed). -

My post op is this afternoon. I'm hoping the dr tells me I can bypass puree and at least go to mushies...the jello, yougurt, etc dont fill me up for long (if at all...I'm just too paranoid to eat more lol) -
I thought a psch eval was sop for the insurance approval... Regardless, what's done is done and you've taken steps to get yourself out of the depressed rut. Is it possible to change drs? Even if it's a bit further of a drive, it sounds like it might be worth it. You literally put your life in these peoples hands and it sounds like they don't respect that. My advice is to find a new dr...

Haha...smitten that's our favorite soup. I'm making a big pot of it tomorrow. I usually use ham, onion, carrots, celery, and a handful of barly (to make it a little hardier). It's sooooo good! And good for you!!!! -
Congratulatioins! That's an amazing feat and you deserve to be proud!!!

My band feels tighter in the evenings
CrabbyCrab posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, so i was banded on May 13th (almost a week ago). I've had basically no problems other than the normal gas, a little achey from incisions and actually being hungry (at least I think I am). Last night I had home made egg drop Soup for dinner (my husband found the recipe on this forum). I was uncomfortable from about a half hour after I finished it until around 7:30 this morning. I even woke up in the middle of the night uncomfortable. I figured I just ate too much or didn't chew the egg enough. I wasn't nauseas or sick and I didn't feel like I had to throw up, just uncomfortable. I wasn't worried, just decided I'd take it easy today. Well, today I've had Decaf Chi tea, beef broth, Protein shake, Jello and Water. The last thing (other than water) I had was Jello around 6:30. I was fine until about 8:30 and then I started getting that feeling again. Kind of like pressure in my stomach - only this time I KNOW I didn't eat anything. I know some people say their bands are tighter in the morning. Could it be possible that it feels tighter at night?
