  1. I have the same exact pain in my upper right side, everyone says it is because they go through muscle there. I have restriction I can eat about 3-4 oz and then if I don't stop I will feel the chest pain. I didn't know about the post op group on thursday but I would love to go, what time and where?

  2. I just want to let everyone know about the GNC Protein Shakes they are so good. They have the whey protein and have 20 grams of protein per scoop. They come in Chocholate, Bananna Cream, Vanilla. No bad after taste, I mix strawberres, banannas, yogurt, and ice I usually make them with non fat milk. They are so good. Just thought you guys might like to try them out.
  3. omg, that is tooo crazy. You were before me because I was at 10:00. I had to wait forever until I went upstairs, they didn't send me to the floor until about 10pm. How have you been doing, I love it. I get my first fill next week, I have restriction now so this will be really interesting. I live in Niskayuna, I have stopped weighing myself everyday I am only going to weigh once a month on the 4th. When I saw him last week he asked me why I wasn't eating eggs and cottage cheese? I was only 2.5 weeks out and the nutritionist told me not to? Please keep me updated this is so crazy.

  4. Hello, I was banded on 1/4/2010, So that is 19 days out! I have been following all of the instructions with the liquid and when I went to see the surgeon on 1/20 he asked me why I am not eating chicken and soft fish. I told him the nutritionist told me not to. So I started eating the mushy stuff, it is amazing how quickly I fill up. I feel like a switch has gone off in my brain where food is just a way to survive and I really could go the whole day without really eating. I focus on the protein trying to get in 60 grams everyday and drinking my 64 oz of water. I dont even think about the stuff I am eating as food I think about it in the terms of protein. If I didn't know any better I would say they operated on my brain and not my stomach,,, LOL Good Luck to everyone, and I would say to all of you that just had the surgery within two weeks you feel back to your normal self only better.

    Feeling Depressed

We are all failures that is why we are all here.... We have all failed at something... You are not failing you are just stuck. You need to hang in there and have the nutritionist work with you, there must me an explanation for this situation. You will find it we only fail when we give up, and you have not given up. Hang in there!

    Tips from successful losers

I was reading in another post that protein was key for one person that wasn't loosing. She went from 40-50 grams of protein to 70 grams and started to loose weight again. Maybe that will help?

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

Hello everyone, Had my band placed on Monday 1/4/2010. I have been back to work since thursday and have been only using motrin for the pain. My port site on the right side is tender but I guess this would be normal. I have 5 incisions one on my belly button about 1.5 inches and 4 on my abdomen two of them are about 1.5 inches and the other two are about .5 inches all healing really well. The diet is clear liquids with my protein shake 3 times a day and as much water as I can manage but atleast 64 oz. I gained weight when i first got home I am assuming due to the fluids. Now I am 5 days post op and am now under my presurgical weight by 2 LBS. I started at 206 surgery date than went to 210 when I got home now currently am 204. Just a little blurb, my real reason for posting is, where will we all keep in touch. On this thread or will we use another thread? I don't completely understand how the postings work, please help me so I can keep in touch with all of the January bandsters. So far I am so happy with the whole exp. the no eating is a little tough but I try to stay busy, I have my first post op appointment on Monday 1/11/2009. I hope I can have some yogurt after that appointment, that would be really great . Good luck to everyone
  8. Hello, I am much older than you and have had similar exp. with my mom. If you ever need anyone to talk to or someone that understands please feel free to email me. It is one of the hardest things to have to go through this life without a mom. Or a mom that is just a shell of what a real mother should be. Me and my sister do our best to just start our family and our lives from us on, and you can to. You can learn from others how to be a strong independant person and eventually a great loving mom, if that is what you want. I wish you the best of luck on your journey and please know you are not alone, is all you have to do is ask for support and you will get it. Good Luck with everything you do in life!

    The Magic Wand

GREAT POST, I am really loving this whole exp. and being a part of this site. You said it all and really your post should be the consent you have to sign before getting into this venture. You are 100 % correct, I just had my surgery on Monday 1/4/2010. I am a nurse and I understand what surgery is, but I have to tell you until I woke up following the surgery with the actual pain in my gut, I finally realized how real this is. I thank god I am doing great and knock on wood no problems. I am following the diet to a T, clear liquids, diet jello blah blah, and even this is a committment. Thanks so much for your post I really thought it said it all!
  10. Hello Kyra, You have a couple different things that need to be addressed, number one your PCP is an issue. If the MD has canceled 6 appointments, you really should consider another PCP. You have to have a PCP that is going to work with you. I don't believe insurance will consider approving without the PCP supporting you, you will also need a psych eval, and many other requirements, depending on the program you choose you may need to attend support groups and jump through a lot of hoops. #2 You have to be able to loose ten percent of your weight and show that you can be on a diet and you have to commit to exercise. #3 If you don't mind me asking, why are you choosing bypass at such a young age? If you were to get into a program and loose the 10% you could have a lapband and would not have to deal with the malabsorption and the other complications relating to bypass? I have just had my surgery and it was a realtively long process to get to this point and now that I have the surgery it is still 100 % committment on my part to make this work. I have to follow a very strict diet for the next 6 weeks. Then have to stick to diet and exercise. Anyone considering weightloss surgery has to understand that this is a huge step to make and is in no way a quick fix. Good Luck with all that you do and I hope you are able to get the answers you are looking for on our site. If there is anything else I can do to support or assist you in any way please let me know!
  11. Same thing happened to me, I asked my friend Brandy who had this surgery 1.5 years ago she gained 9 pounds in the hospital and then she said two weeks later it all melted away. I know it is from the IV's and the surgery, Brandy said as long as we stick to the plan we will be fine. I am having an issue with all the diet stuff I don't do well with sweetners they give me a headache. I can have carnation instant b-fast shakes with no added sugar. I also had broth and some skim milk. I just really dont want to eat which i guess is the whole point of all of this. I really do feel good tonight, when do you plan on starting to work out?

  12. January 4th 2010 i was supposed to be in at 8:30am I was called back to preop around 9:30 am. They started my IV and then everyone else started to show up one by one anesthesia, MD and nurse that was going to be in the room.. Then at 10:25 they took me back had me slide over to the table and but the oxygen mask on and told me to take a couple deep breaths and that was that. I do remember the anesthesiologist saying you are in good hands and he had a very calming voice and that really did help. Then I remember waking up in recovery with a decent amount of pain. The nurse gave me morphine, fentanyl, dilaudid, toradol and that finally helped with the pain. The suggestion to bring chap stick is key that really helped alot. I was in recovery from 1:30 pm until 10 pm b/c there was no room for me to go to. Then when I finally got upstairs I was all set for a little while. I was able to walk and move about I was just stuck with that IV to drag around. I found that the toradol worked the very best for pain and the phenergan is good for the nausea and did help me to sleep a little. I was only given ice chips b/c the hospital I was at waits until you have your gi study to make sure the band is in the correct position. The broth that they gave me was delicious I know that sounds rediculous but it tasted so good after nothing for more than a day. I walked and walked and walked and finally was able to go home after 4pm. Today is post op day two and I have showered and have been able to pretty much get by on motrin and a half of a lortab. I am trying to avoid the constipation from too much pain meds. Honestly it was a little more pain that I expected but managable.
  13. Hi, I am doing good I think very sore on my right side and of course the gas,,, but I am walking around alot just took a shower starting to feel somewhat normal. Trying to sip the fluids and do what I am supposed to. I haven't taken anything for pain since 3a so I must be feeling better. Was the surgery more or less than you expected?

  14. Hey JeweI I am just wondering how you are doing I was discharged from the hospital today. I had alot more pain post op than I expected.. How about you, Hope everything went well if you want to talk here is my cell 518 421 2732 Tracie

  15. Hi Have you tried the gas ex strips and the walking?
  16. Hey,, you are doing all the correct things.... try to cover it with some guaze or something somewhat sterile IE: large band aid etc etc and keep using the neosporin,,this will keep the area clean. You want to keep the entire area clean and dry and you take a shower and let the water run on that area, very delicately dab it dry and they cover with the guaze and neosporin.. Keep an eye on your temp.. and just give the Doc a call in the morning.. This is def not a 911 call if you guys have never heard of this before there is a service called nurseline 1-800-846-4678. They will triage anyone free of charge and tell you what direction you should go in, IE: urgent care, ER, blah blah blah awesome service. Good luck I hope you feel better very soon.
  17. Hey everyone I am not a professional yet b/c I don't get banded until tomorrow.... but my advice would be don't scratch it put some neosporin on it and leave it alone.....:smile2: Show it to the surgeon when you go back, your fingernails can be so dirty and you are scratching a very tiny opening in your skin which could lead to an infection. As long as it doesn't hurt and there is no redness let the MD know on Monday.... Hope this helps
  18. Yes we are getting down to the wire now... I feel ready for this, I am all set on going to the gym 5 days a week!! Everyone that has been successful stresses the working out part.. I have a 15 yo 11 yo 4 yo and a almost 2 year old. So that part of my life is over no more babies... It is all about me for awhile, so ultimately I can continue to give everything I have to them... I live in upstate NY,. where are you? I love my surgeon he is very sweet and confident and it really helps he is a trauma surgeon as well. Please keep me posted, I have my email on my black berry so hope to keep blogging even while in the hospital. I have to stay overnight b/c my surgeon does a barium swallow in the morning to make sure he is happy with everything before sending me home. I only had to do one day of the liquid diet which is today.. I guess I am lucky. I love this whole website I really feel so much support from everyone. I would love to go through this with you so lets keep in touch :)
