    An Interesting Journey So Far

I began awhile ago. I was 459 lbs at the beginning, i am currently 291 and my goal is 160. I did months of research before i had surgery and i highly recommend this to others considering this procedure. It is a life changing event, and if you are not willing to change your life before surgery, to change your eating habits, your amount of exercise, and develop a commitment to this do not do it. I was told before surgery I would need to lose 50 lbs. and i lost 116. I got on a roll. I told myself if i could not make these changes before surgery then there was no point in having it. Folks, this is not a miracle cure, this is a tool, it will help you reach your goal, but it requires a tremendous commitment to change. Okay, i have preached enough. This experience has been terrifying life changing, and wonderful. I am very glad i took this road. It takes courage. I am not going to delve into the past, we all know that road that consisted of sadness, drawn curtains, depression, giving up, and basically slowly killing myself. Simply put i had given up on life and was done. and one day i realized i was not done, i was too young to die and that is exactly what i was doing. So, i am currently half way there. I have dealt with plateaus, and it is frustrating I screw up all the time, it's going to happen. Life knocks you down, or i make terrible choices, or whatever, it will happen. It is very important that every time life knocks you down, you get the hell back up, and then when you do you make a plan to go forward cause going back is simply not an option. My team of drs have been a tremendous help, along with family friends and online friends. That's enough. Take it seriously, laugh, work hard, mess up and go on, it's all part of it, talk to you later. WF

  8. Hello, I am seven months out from surgery. I lost 116 lbs prior to surgery and another 30 since. I have plateaued for awhile now. My restriction is kicking in and i keep sabotaging myself. I go to the gym 5 days a week and i walk quite a bit. I am walking my first 5K in July. thank you for any help you can give me.
  9. I am 2 months out from surgery and had my first fill a month ago. i don't feel alot of restriction but my calories are at 1,000 to 1,300, i work out 5 days a week, i can eat almost anything as long as it is slowly. I am losing weight slowly. but do i want my cals too much lower than that do i? i am sticking to the plan, doing the work, sometimes i am starving but after a cup of food i am full, and i make good choices 99% of the time, so should i wait on the second fill?

    Support Group

Hello, i live 2 hours away from a support group and am seriously considering starting one. I have had people interested. Any advice on starting one, i havent been to a WLS support group but i believe it would be very helpful for myself and others. (this is for the Oregon Coast), thanks,
  11. hi, i am a month post-op, i had my first fill a week ago. I've had weeks where i am starving and can eat anything, and now i do not want to eat anything. i am not complaining. I keep track of cal and amounts and protein and water. I also work out 5 times a week, but i am finding i am only getting 500 to 600 cals a day which is not enough to exercise. I am eating mushies, almost regular food. Any suggestions for food that would help, everything i eat has no cals or i can only eat a tiny amount.

    New Routine

I have been walking for a year and wanted to kick it up a bit, i found a workout room down the road at the pool. So, mwf's i walk there, and do the stationary bike, weights, treadmill, and elliptical and walk home. On t/th's i do the bike, treadmill and then get in the pool and do like 3 exercises there. because i do the recumbant bike 5 days a week, two of those days i sprint and 3 of those days i do endurance, so far i am not doing a ton of time on each piece of equipment, but everyday i go i make it a little harder, i am looking forward to seeing results, i am one month pre-op, and have been cleared for all of this, it's exciting, i love having a plan instead of walking in there and feeling stupid, it works,

    First Fill Today

Hey, got my first fill today. Also saw the nutritionist and had a million questions answered (Very Helpful), and had an upper GI, busy day! Got like one and a half cc's, very, very quick, did hurt a little. On liquids now for 2 days, then puree and mushies. Yaaa! just kidding, Haven't been able to eat all day cause of the UGI, had a protein shake when i got home, everything has gone great so far, only prob is constipation, and i learned today what to do and what not to do, i did not know that iron tablets could be a culprit, learn something new everyday, i hope everyone is having a good day!!!! this smiley cracks me up,
  14. I am 18 days out from surgery, mainly i cannot complain, i have had no nausea, i stopped my pain meds the day after surgery, and everything has been going great. But, the last two days my appetite has returned like a lion. I am eating exactly what i am supposed to, getting good protein, and my cals for far have risen to about 900. all the vitamins, writing everything down meticulously. Tonight i made ground turkey with taco flavoring and refried beans, in itself it is not a bad meal, i pureed it, but i ate fast and alot, like a cup and a half, i felt like i was binging. on the 15th i am supposed to have a fill, is this "bandster hell?", i feel like i am starving all of the time. i am having a bit of an issue with getting enough water. will this get better? :wink2:

    Frustrated

Thank you so much for you help, it is greatly appreciated. I just needed some encouragement and a sign back to the path, i can see now what i need to change. I live in a small town with no support groups and this website has been very helpful over the months, both for getting ready and now. Thanks again. :wink2:
  16. Hello, i had my surgery last Monday, Nov. 16th. Everything is going very well, i am a bit tired of the liquid thing but that is normal. Before surgery i lost 112 lbs. by walking and eating better, i really think it made this whole experience much better, though i have just begun. A little nervous about the next stages of eating, that's about it for now.
