I have been a variety of weights throughout my life. I would lose it....gain it.....lose it.....gain it, etc. I've been struggling with my weight for almost my entire life. My BMI is currently 40. I've been thinking about having the lap band surgery for quite some time, but I only recently started doing my research. I had heard that one can sometimes get the procedure covered by their medical insurance, but I don't know if I qualify. I don't have Diabetes, cardiac issues, hypertension, or any other co-morbities that often come along with being overweight. I do however have fatigue, achey joints, and back pain. I'm trying to make the decision or not to have the surgery. I know people who have had the surgery and have had successful results. I also know people who have had gastric bypass surgery who have had positive results, but they look so malnourished! A friend of mine is a Registered Dietitian and she has tried to urge me against having the surgery. She stated that she knows people who have had the lap band placed and their results are viarable. She states that most of them lose plenty of weight in the beginning, but then eventually put it back on. She also stated that some of the people she knew wouldn't lose weight, then would go have the band tightened. The results of having it tightened made the patient vomit all the time because food wasn't able to pass. Any advice?
