Congrats that your big day is finally here! The only advice I have is try not to be nervous or have any second-thoughts. It's a wonderful thing you're about to do for yourself.

Question for the banded ladies....
KimmyTx replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I peed myself after surgery and told them so when they were moving me into a new bed during post-op. They didn't care and I didn't either. When you're groggy and out of it, nothing else really matters. In fact, I just remembered it, so it was a total non-issue. You will meet with a nurse pre-op, so just explain your problem then and they will take care of it. -
Does anybody else feel pressure to lose constantly and continuously by those who know you've been banded? People are constantly looking at me and asking for weight loss updates and I feel guilty when I can't announce some phenomenal number.

I need some stage 2 food ideas. HELP!!!!!!
KimmyTx replied to pdpmac's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorite is 98% fat free cream of mushroom soup. So yummy! Another snack I had no problem getting down was dill pickles with the outer layer potato-peeled off (still afraid that part will stick in the band). -
Testing for a leak in the port/band/tubing
KimmyTx replied to steveelea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bless your heart for all you've had to go through. You seem to have experienced every Bandster's worst nightmare! I think if I were in your shoes, by now I would start questioning my doctor's ability to take good care of me. Have you considered getting advice from another one? -
Thank you, Sonja. Actually, on the flip side, it can be motivating too because it's nice when people can see a difference and/or you have good news to report. It's just that, as someone said earlier, the general public has this perception that the weight is just going to fall off and very quickly. At this point, every pound that comes off is the result of a lot of sweat plus good food choices.

Is it normal to think about the foods you can't have?
KimmyTx replied to 4them's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. Betsy's posts are VERY inspiring. Yes, it's normal to crave. I've never been super crazy about pizza but guess what I craved (so much it was painful!) the first 3 or so weeks after surgery? Plus, it didn't help that every single commercial I saw was for cheese-dripping, mouth-watering pizza. Thankfully I never gave into those cravings and they do get much, much better and easier to tolerate. I am now almost 6-weeks out and haven't given into temptation one single time, which is nothing short of a miracle for me, so just know it gets easier. -
It IS exciting, isn't it? Wtg, girl.

I had surgery on the 15th and went back to work the 17th. It certainly wasn't the best day of my life but I had no choice, and as soon as I got home, I went straight to bed. It's certainly do-able, just not ideal. Liquid Tylenol helped immensely.

Dying for a Diet Coke!!
KimmyTx replied to Mamarotten's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No alcohol? Really? I was well-versed on the no-carbonation thing (I miss you, Dr. Pepper), but didn't know alcohol was a no-no. I found a sugar-free margarita mix (Baha Bob's) and was looking forward to trying it, but now I guess I better ask first. -
I have been feeling super nauseous and light-headed after workouts lately. I'm getting enough to eat and drink so am wondering if it could be my blood pressure getting too low. I am on meds and have been hoping to get off them eventually but it feels like this is a bit soon. Has anyone else with BP issues gotten off meds as a result of weight loss and did you have the same initial symptoms?

Thanks so much, y'all. I appreciate the support and good advice.

How painful was your surgery on a scale of 1-10
KimmyTx replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This was my first surgery too and it was very easy. I would say it was a 3-4 the day of and the day after, but after that I no longer needed pain meds and went back to work. I would say the hunger pains getting through the two weeks of clear liquids was far worse. -
Shave the outer layer off dill pickles and have at it. Very filling!

Mmmmm, breakfast anyone?

PB is productive burping. I don't know about the other two, not sure I want to.
-
Can you imagine having that happen when you're out eating at a restaurant or something?
-
I had diarrhea during the entire two-weeks, pre-op, Atkins diet, then had it during the entire two-weeks of clear liquids. I had to go without eating all day at work because it was so bad. Luckily, it finally stopped when I was able to move to full liquids. Suffice it to say, I feel your pain.

update and first fill today.... wigged out!! it was bad!!
KimmyTx replied to ChocolateDream81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So....did it hurt? Or was it just the sight of the needle that panicked you? -
You didn't mention if it hurts or not!

Make broth from the packets that come in Ramen (beef flavored) packets. It's the most filling thing I could find. Yes, high in salt, but you should be drinking enough water to counteract that, at least a little.

Confused about Post-op
KimmyTx replied to Starprincess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on June 15th and the two weeks of clear liquids was pure hell. Actually, the pain of my stomach being so hungry was worse than the surgery pain. I made it through by drinking broth made out of Ramen packets. Very good and filling, at least temporarily. If you can get to the full liquids phase it's much easier. The creamy soups are very filling and satisfying, as are the protein shakes. Patience!
