At the age of 22, and extreme heavy and overweight, I decided I was ready for a change in my life. I also wanted to be healthy for my fiance and for the future of a family with him. After several years of trying diets, and weight loss pills, nothing was working. My family doctor suggested that we look into a weight loss surgery. Gastric bypass way out of the question, because i still wanted to have kids someday, so we turned to the Lap-Band. Still being a student in college and under my parent's insurance, we called to see if insurance would pay for part of the surgery. Of course there were several hoops we had to jump through for insurance to finally accept it, but after 5 months of numerous calls to the insurance company and the doctors office, I was finally approved by my insurance, and they would pay all of it but $1500 of the cost. We were so excited. In January we scheduled surgery for the 1st week in Feb. A few weeks later, the doctor's office called and said that Dr. Ferrara would be out of town on the day of surgery, and we would have to postpone it for another month. I was heart broken. After 6 months of waiting and it almost here, it broke my heart them telling me I would have to wait another month. After hearing my tears, the nurse said she would see what she could do. Later on in the week the nurse called me back and told me that Dr. Ferrara had agreed to do the surgery on Friday the 13, of Feb. Normally he does not do surgeries but only on Tuesdays and Wedesday. This was great news. The surgery was back on for Feb. Following the surgery, I have had great success with my weight loss. In May I married a great supportive man, and I looked great, 30lbs lighter in my wedding dress. It felt great. I currently feel great and look great as well, I will continue my weight loss until I reach my goal of 110lbs. Once I reach my goal, my husband and I would like to start our family.
