    Re-Banded May 26

Evening all, I use to be a regular visit of this forum back in the late 2010. See I was originally banded on 11/19/2010. Right about Christmas time last year (just over a year after my band), I went for a fill, as I wasn't finding the same amount of restriction. Instead, I received a complete unfilled. I had a slip. I was so upset. I had lost 100 lbs and was doing so well. Since I had no symptoms, the Dr wanted to see if the unfilled would work. I went back a month later and there was no change. They put me on a course of prednisone and that did not work. That was when they decided to do surgery to fix it. Now I was playing the waiting game with the insurance. Went back and forth and it was taking forever. As the months were going by I was starting to have increase gas and heartburn. I was also having a harder time eating. Then on Sunday, 5/20, I got very sick. I could not keep anything down and was in the worse pain ever. I finally feel asleep and first thing Monday morning called the Dr. They called me in some pain meds and other meds and got me the Dr next appointment, Thursday. Needless to say I tried to get in sooner, but he was either in surgery or at the other office that was further away from me. Still I called every day asking if I could get in sooner. I could not wait for Thursday. When I showed up at the Dr on Thursday, the Dr gave me one look and sent me to the hospital. One good thing was that my insurance had finally sent the approval for the revision. When I was settled in at the hospital, I was dehydrated and in a lot of pain. They hooked me up with the good meds got me lots of fluids. Dr came to see me Friday morning and they were able to get me on the books for surgery Saturday morning. This time around was a little harder on me. I was having a lot of nauseous and ended up staying in the hospital til Monday. So even though I was already banded, I am starting out all over again. I hope you do not mind of I join this group. Even though I have done this all before, I will still need the support that I got from this forum last time. I am currently on my two weeks of liquids post-op and I am already struggling. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that I had not had anything to eat a week prior to surgery. Now I know you cannot eat before surgery, but I was getting nothing in. I was drinking about 10oz of Water a day. My body wants to play catch up. Ok I am off to bed. Been still sleeping a lot as my body has been through a lot. Sweet dreams all!

    Banded May 15Th

Apea, You will most likely not get a fill unless your dr doesn't want you to heal. The normal time period for a fill is 6 weeks post-op. You need to heal first.

    Nine Days Post-Op!

Keep up the great work Jolly. Lilbelly, it is not unusal to feel full very quickly. You stomach has a lot of swelling after surgery. Also you band might not be completely empty. This depends on the dr. They have to test the band once it is put on you. Then they let the stomach determine how much Fluid it wants in the band. With my first band, I had 5cc in it after surgery. I won't know with this one until I go for my first fill. Enjoy that feeling cause it will help you lose the weight.
  4. What a past month I have had. I ended up with pneumonia and had some problems with my band. I ended up having 2 cc's removed. I started feeling better. I went on vacation to Hilton Head, SC and was able to enjoy myself. I was able to eat without over doing it, but also without feeling sick afterward. I rode a bike quite a bit on vacation and swam, but still managed to gain 4 pounds. I just finally lost those 4 pounds this week. I have started back running and I am increasing my laps in the pool. I have always added weight to my dumbbells doing my weight lifting workouts. A lot of times you hit a plateau and it is hard to get the weight lose going again. This is one reason I have never been able to lose weight and keep it off before. I just keep varying my workouts. Also allow yourself a cheat meal or day. Give your body something it is craving, just don't over do it. Those are my two things for breaking a plateau. Off to go swim some laps and then weights this afternoon.
  5. I can't believe it has almost been 6 months. Still feels like yesterday I had the surgery. I am loving life now. I am down almost 75 lbs which is half of what I want to lose. I am running my first 5K next Friday (the 13th). I enjoying being more active and having more energy. My weight lose jump started when I started running. I have noticed a lot more weight coming off since then. I am going to do a 10K in October and hope to lose that last 75 pounds by my 1 year anniversary. I still do a shake almost every morning for breakfast then eat lunch and dinner. I will have another shake on work out days. I work out 5-6 days a week too. Now that it has warmed up out and the pool is open I can go swimming. Hope everyone is doing well!
  6. Wow! I just realized how long it has been since I posted on here. It sounds like so of us are having luck with the weight lose and others are struggling. I have to say I was one of those people struggling up until the beginning of March. After my first fill, I had a hard time get adjusted to the band. I was vomiting almost every time I eat. I was eating way to fast and not chewing enough. I finally have gotten the mental aspect figured out. I have found that I can't really eat in the morning. If I do, I might get a Egg White flat bread from Dunkin Donuts, but it would take me 3-4 hours to eat it. I found since it was taking me so long to eat, I wasn't drinking enough. So now I have a shake for breakfast and I am back to drinking all the water I need. I then have a small piece of chicken or fish, or a package of tuna fish for lunch. Dinner is either chicken or fish or another shake. I sometimes have a Detour Protein bar if I am feeling hungry in the afternoon or I am going to work out. I get well over my 60 grams of protein in a day. Also in January I lost my job. I was only out of work for a short 2 weeks. But starting the new job threw my work out schedule off. I just finally got back into a routine this month. I have noticed a HUGE difference. Not only do I feel great (more energy), I am sleeping better (finally off my sleeping pills), and I am losing weight at a consistent rate. I am losing on average 3 pounds a week for the past 3 weeks (I weigh in on Thursday only as this was the DOW of my surgery). I go for my 2 month f/u on Friday after my first fill and I have no intentions on getting a fill. I think I am one of those luck people that has a dr who isn't afraid to be aggressive with the first fill. So for my work out routine this month, I do Zumba tone twice a week, regular Zumba class, and Brazilian Butt Lift once a week. This week (actually today) I added a run/walk. We did 3.5 miles .25 run and .25 recovery. I felt great afterward. I am doing it with this girl from work. She likes to workout and wants to be a personal trainer, so she is prefect to help me train for a 5K. That is my goal. I want to do it before I go on vacation at the end of May. I think working towards a goal like that will really help. I am watching the Biggest Loser right now and I say If they can do it, so can I! Good luck and keep up the hard work. You will get there. November Band for me

So Sorry all, I have been MIA. Things got crazy after my surgery and then I ended up with pneumonia for Christmas. But I am back on track now. I just had my first fill today. Had 5 cc in band from surgery and she added 4.5 for total of 9.5 cc in band. I am on liquids for two days and then purees for two days. I am really hoping this will jump start my weight lost a little more as I have only lost 10 pounds since surgery. I have, however, lost two entire Jean size. I was in a 22 and now wearing an 18. They are a little tight but worth it! I also start my next round of class today. I have just under 2 years to finish my degree. That will keep me busy in the evenings, so I really need to find time to work out. I already take the stairs at work, both up and down, and I am on the 5th floor. When I go shopping I always make sure I walk all the aisle and as fast as I can. This depends on other people in the store of course. I set a New's Years' goal of working out at the gym in my club house at least 3 times a week. So far that isn't looking too good for this week. I am going to really try when I get home tonight though and before I sit down on the couch to start school work. I hope everyone else is doing well. If has been awfully quiet in here lately. Remember that support is the biggest key to success!

GREAT product for Protein that I found!

I haven't had any problem with getting my protein in, maybe because I haven't had a fill yet. I also bought one of those little protein pack tubes. I have it in the fridge downstairs. i hadn't tried it yet. But I got mine from Wal-Mart. I also agree that the Isopure is great!
  9. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to you too! No turkey for me.

    Introductions:

Well we lost our old Introduction posts with the new boards. I hope everyone find their way. I'm Melissa, 32 married with no children yet. I am from Massachusetts, born and raised, but after I got married in May 07, my husband and I moved to NC. Then this past April moved right over the boarder to SC. I am 5 minutes from the line and 25 to downtown Charlotte. We tried to have a baby last year. I went through one round of fertilty treatments and no luck. I knew it was going to be hard with my PCOS. It was then I decided that I needed to lose weight once and for all. I hope this will help me with conceiving. I also have sleep apnea, high cholesterol, and board line diabetic. I work full time and just finished my Associates degree. I will be starting my Bachelor's in January. I am doing it all online. Good luck to all!

    Post op diets

I am on liquids and jello for 2 weeks post op. This has been hard than the 2 weeks pre-op I already did. I have been drinking protein shakes, adding the unflavored Unjury to soups, and drinking Special K Protein Powder. I am still hungry, but trying to ignore it. I did have some cheese the other day and I have also been eating more than a spoonful of applesauce with my meds. I usually eat a full cup. I have no restriction so it has been hard.

    Post op diets

I got mine from Vitamin Shoppe. GNC has them also but there were $1 more a bottle and at $3.79 a bottle that was already pricey so VS it was. They had only 2 flavors, grape & orange, in the singles. If I had know I was going to like it so much I would have bought a case. I HIGHLY recommend getting them and having them in house before surgery, but if you are post-op get some now and start drinking.

  16. I have a lot of port pain also. I was doing ok, but then last night I started sneezing and the pain got really bad. I also feel no restriction and I am only 5 days post op. I can sit here drink a full cup or 2 with no problems. I did have some cheese today and cant wait to get to the mushes. I weighed myself yesterday and I was down only 0.4 pounds from surgery. I have been walking at least 2 miles a day since Sunday. Feels good to go outside, especially since it has been 70 degrees.
  17. I think burping is an indicator that you over did it. When I have drank to much, thats what I am doing. Since I am still on pain meds I don't "feel" full.
  18. Well I am now a full 24 hours post-op. I am feeling ok. Most of my pain is from where the port is. My shoulders and neck are bothering me from the way I slept. I don't like sleeping up right. I drank an entire bottle of Isopure in those 24 hours. Thats 20 oz of fluids with 40grams of Protein! Since I was only allowed 1 oz an hour, including pain meds, that was spot on. I have had one spoon full of applesauce with my first med this morning and so far so good. I took a chewable vitamin last night and had some bad nauseous and vomited a little. I took a Phenergan suppository and that did the trick. I have two more meds and then my multivitamin and Calcium liquid to take. Its hard spacing this all out when I am use to just taking it all at once. I walked around the house yesterday, but today I will get outside and walk. No real gas pains, but I have been taking Gas-X and burping, so that is probably why. Ok I have rambled enough.
  19. Not being able to ibuprofen was a deal breaker for me, but it came close. I get a lot of pain in my back, muscle spams and sciatica, and bad menstrual cramps. Motrin is the only thing that helps. I had to be off the Motrin the 2 weeks pre-op also and I did ok with Tylenol. I am hoping with the weight lose that all those pains will go way, or at lease lesson where Tylenol will work.
  20. I was wheeled into the or at 8:45 this morning. I believe I was in recovery about 10am. But didn't know it. I was very nauseous and throwing up. Also in a lot of pain. I had to wait for the Meds to stop the nauseous before they could give me pain Meds. It took 7 shots of morphine to bring the pain down to a 5 out of 10 finally get the pain under control and I was able the start drinking water. No problem got dressed walked for a few and left at 1 pm. now I'm resting at home drinking 4 tbsp of isopure an hour. I'm soar at the port site and that's it. no gas pains right now. hope it stays that way. I know there was a couple of people being banded today how u doing today? I will update signature later but I was 187.6 this morning. that means I'm down 15 pounds in two weeks on liquid diet pre op. no comments here

    November bandsters unite!!

Well tomorrow is my day. Got to be there at 7am for a 8:45am surgery. I am looking forward to this, but still nervous. I just took my first shower with Hyberclens (sp?). Going to do some updating and then bed. Good luck everyone else that is being Banded this week! See you over at Post-op tomorrow.
  22. I hadn't been banded yet, but based on what I have read, you are probably need more Protein. Protein is what is going to make you feel full. Also drinking with your food is not good. It is going to make the food leave your pouch faster and in turn make you hungry sooner. Try to get that protein in and watch with you are eating. I would also call you dr and speak to the nutritionist.

    November bandsters unite!!

Good luck to all the Bandsters this week. I go in at 7am Thursday. I am ready.
  24. If you take the same code you copied into this post and copy it into your signature, which you can find in the User CP, it will be on every post.
  25. Wow two weeks clear liquids! That seems a little extreme to me. How can you body heal. It needs the protein. I am only on clear iquid the day of surgery and then the next day I can start protein shakes for 2 weeks.
