  1. I'm being banded on the 23rd too! I have my final pre-op appointment on Wednesday and apparently it's just to go over the surgery and then to weigh me to see how I've done so far on the pre-op diet. I'm nervous but very excited. I thought three weeks until surgery was going to take forever but here it is only 6 days away! Woo to us!
  2. Good luck Ree! I'm being banded on the 23rd and I woke up this morning with a sore throat! UGH! I just downed some airborne and on my way to work I'm picking up Zicam. Heck if I'm going to be sick for my surgery. I'm too scared they will postpone it! Congrats to all of you that have already been banded!
  3. I am being banded on March 23 and just started my pre-op diet. I was weighed at the nutritionist on Monday and will be weighed again on my surgery date, and then 10 days post-op at my first appointment. I don't have a scale! I feel like I will make myself a nervous wreck if I have a scale in the house, and I will probably weigh myself every day and panic if it goes back and forth. Does anyone JUST check their weight at the doctor's office? Just curious. Perhaps in a few months I might buy a scale but I don't think it's a good idea for now. Perhaps that's just me though? Feedback is appreciated! I'm just wondering how everyone else does things.
  4. Interesting how doctors are so different! I started my 2 week pre-op diet on Monday. I get three shakes per day and two small meals. The req. for shakes are over 14g protein and under 6 carbs. Meals are 4-5 oz of lean protein, 2 cups of salad greens with 2 tsps of dressing, 1/2 cup of veggies. I can also have 2 servings of sf jello, 2 sf popsicles, unlimited celery, mushrooms and cucumbers. I am not allowed any fruits, nuts, peanut butter, or "mushie beans" like limas, peas, etc. I've got limitations on my protein. Cheese has to be 2% or fat free. Meats can be anything other than fried which is fine. I'm just excited that it's not full liquids! I'd be in trouble. No pastas, breads, etc. though.
  5. Congrats on your date! I have the same date as you and am so excited (seems like I've been going through the whole process forever) to finally be close! I don't have any advice/suggestions. I go in next Monday for my 2 week pre-op diet, so right now I'm going through trying different brands of Protein shakes and such. I've also been reading more than normal on here, and trying to prepare everything (been shopping for Vitamins, bought a blender, stocking up on broths/jellos/etc.). I know three weeks isn't long, but I have a feeling it's going to drag by for me. Good luck!
  6. Congrats on getting your date! I'm a few days before you (23rd), but also started in October. Seems like it took forever! I don't have much advice as per the Protein powder and eating right other than that you should be able to use the protein supplements up, even once you're able to eat a decent amount of protein. I do know that I've read so much, it's all getting jumbled. I'm a list person so I pretty much wrote out everything I've found on this site about what I'll need after surgery (liquid tylenol, types of Vitamins, different protein drinks/mixes, etc.). I found that it helped me sort things out a lot. I've also got a shopping list going of what I'm going to buy a few days before I head in for surgery so my house will be stocked with my first 2 weeks of food supply and any meds, etc. I'll need. Anyway, congrats and good luck. I'm a little nervous as well but it's a good, excited nervous.
  7. I decided not to tell anyone either. Well my family knows (small family! Just mom, grandparents and aunt/uncle). I want to get excited and tell people but I decided that I just didn't feel like it! I told my bosses (who are more like friends) that I am having my gallbladder taken out. It'll account for the scars and I've decided that I can make sense of the weight loss because a lot of foods are no longer tolerable once you have your gallbladder taken out (I've done some research...). My aunt got her lapband about a year ago and tells everyone. She doesn't care what people say and that works for her. I just don't feel the need to draw the attention to myself, or have people asking lots of questions. That may change in the future but for now, I'm keeping it under wraps. I don't have surgery until March 23 though so I can't speak from much experience.
  8. Hi everyone. It seems I'm a little late to this thread! I started all of this in August of last year. Well I called then. Had my seminar in September. First appointment in November. Had all of my pre-op testing in December/January and finally got my insurance stuff sent in about 2 weeks ago and was approved about three days later. Anyway I was given my date on Thursday. I'm due to be banded on Monday March 23rd! Woooo. I've got a pre-op appt a few days before and then my nutritionist appointment for my 2 week pre-op diet stuff. Glad to FINALLY be a part of one of these friggin threads!

    5 year history information

It might depend on your insurance. I have BCBS of NC. I've been in college the past 5 years and I had two years of weights and that's it. My surgeon told me to gather photos (dated) and give them to my general care doctor, who then needed to write a letter stating that the person in the photos was indeed me, that they estimated my weight to be x amount of pounds in each photo, etc. Of course I can't tell you if this works or not... I still have one more pre-op appointment before my paperwork is submitted to my insurance company. But my surgeon said they've had numerous people do that in the past with good results.

    NC Intro Thread...

Hi I'm Danielle. I'm originally from Greensboro NC but now live in Northern Virginia. I'm still on my mom's insurance (until may anyway), so I'm having my surgery at Central Carolina in Greensboro, and I have BCBS of NC. I've been through everything except for my last psych visit. I turned in my 340932 pages of psych testing last week and the doc should be calling me early next week to set up my appointment. After that, my paperwork should be sent to Blue Cross for approval (hopefully). I'm hoping it won't take too much longer after that!
  11. I just wanted to say hi. I've been browsing for a while but never joined until now. I'm 24 and I live in northern Virginia. I'm a professional photographer and I've been overweight since about the age of eight. My insurance covers the procedure, and I'm just about to get started for the before surgery stuff. I hear that it depends on the insurance company, but that I'm probably looking at about 6 months before I'm on the table. I'm still covered on my Mom's Blue Cross in NC, so I'll be having it done in NC. Has anyone gone through BCBS of NC that can let me know how long the process is? Anyway, just thought I'd say hi before I read a little more. Thanks!
