Looking for some August 18th sleeve buddies!
AniO replied to AniO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! I had my surgery yesterday. Everything went very well. I mentioned to them right before surgery that I was having more gas pains than normal. They almost canceled my surgery. They did an EKG to see if everything looked good there. By the time that was done, I told them I was able to burg it all out. So the surgeon and anaestheseologists had a meeting and decided to proceed. When I woke up, they told me that they were having a hard time getting my blood pressure stabilized. So today I had and Echocardiogram and they thought they saw something on my aorta. So they put me in ICU and started me on meds to get me ready for the dye for the CT Scan. CT scan was done and everything is OK with my aorta. They just trying to get my blood pressure under control and I should be able to go home tomorrow. As for my sleeve, everything is well there. Very little pain. Nothing compared to my c-sections. How are you doing? Anissa -
9 hours from now I'll be on the operating table getting my Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy! Woo hoo! I'm so excited to continue this journey. Thanks to everyone for posting such great info. See y'all on the loser's bench. Anissa:thumbup:

Chana, I only have to do a one day pre-op liquid diet as well (actually 24 hours). Nice to know I'm not the only one. I thought it a little odd, too. I woke up at 6am today to eat Breakfast. Since my liquid diet is 24 hours before and my surgery is at 7:30 am tomorrow, I figured I'd get my last meal in. I had waffles and coffee. I should've probably had something better like eggs with tomatoes or something. I was feeling very nervous this morning, but once the hunger took over at about 11 am, my nerves went away. I'm in a bad mood. LOL. I'll go ahead and update everyone soon after the surgery. So glad to have found some Sleeve Sisters to go on this journey with! -
Thank you so much. Funny, I was encouraging ChristinaMIA last night and woke up this morning with a bundle of nerves. Your prayers mean the world to me. I'll let you know how it went as soon as I feel good to be on the computer.

Hello everyone, My name is Anissa. I'm having surgery on August 18, 2010. I'm looking for some sleeve buddies. Is there somewhere specific on the website where I need to go find them or am I already in the right place? LOL. OK, so like most other pre-opers, I'm nervous! I keep wondering what will my babies think if I don't wake up? Will they be mad at me when they're old enough to understand what happened? Ugh! I know I shouldn't worry. I have a very good surgeon. But I'm still very nervous. Thankfully, my hubby is a rock. I'm lucky to have him.

Yes. Well said.

Thanks for the encouragement Flaca! I'm looking forward to cheering you on your journey as well. -
@teh Ericka, Since the videos aren't mine, I don't know if I can post them. Plus, I don't think these particular videos would make your boyfriend feel any better. Some of the relationships changed for the worse. You can check out my vlog, MrsAniJO100 if you want, though. Check out the people that I subscribe to. I especially like Kellawanda. On a video she posted yesterday or the day before she touched on relationship changes just a little bit and what she said was positive and realistic. I think the problems come up when you lose focus on why you have had/or are having the surgery. We've got to be realistic with our expectations and constantly check our motives throughout the process. Or at least, that's the conclusion I've come to. I don't say that to be judgemental of anyone's journey. I've just been watching the vlogs to see if there are any red lights and things that I can watch out for. I really recommend them. They've been very helpful to me. One of the cool things about the YouTube vlogs is that you can see videos of people from before they got their surgeries through to where they are now. Some of them are at goal and have been maintaining for a while.

The doc wants me to just do high protein/low carb for now and then I start my clear liquid diet on Tuesday. I've been doing more Protein, but not necessarily less carb. I really felt like I was going nuts the last couple of days. I've been wanting to eat every sweet I can get my hands on. I was wondering what was wrong, I've never been one to gorge. I've normally spread my Snacks throughout the day, that's how I got like this. But I was wanting to eat everything in sight, even looking for excuses to go out so I could get a coke through the drive-thru. Then yesterday morning I started my cycle. It dawned on me last night that maybe that was part of why I've been wanting to binge. Still weird, though, because the need had never been that strong before. My hubby and I had a heart to heart the other night after I saw (another) YouTube Vlog about relationship changes after weight loss surgery. We talked about what kind of changes I might go through and I asked him what would make him feel uncomfortable. It was a great talk and we're even going to sit down and talk to some friends of ours that are married. She had weight loss surgery three years ago. We just want to talk to them about the changes too and see how they handled them.

I'm sorry to hear you have to wait longer than expected. Do they maybe have a list they can put you on in case someone else cancels or postpones? -
Hooray Tiffykins! I love your positive outlook. So glad I found this Special Interest Group here on VST. @ Sleeve 4 Me, thank you so much for writing down what you were thinking. I think a lot of people of faith might feel the same way and be too afraid to bring it up. It helps to know I'm not the only one thinking along those lines.

@Christina, thanks for being my buddy! LOL. I look forward to cheering you on through the process. One of the cool things is that I've got the same goal as you (145). And no, I don't think you're crazy for writing those things down, you're prepared. Have you thought of maybe leaving a love note there, too? I think I'm going to work on that this weekend. I went for my pre-op appointment with the anestheseologist (sp?) yesterday and they gave me info on a living will. I need to look that over too. @ teh ericka, you're right. I need to keep remembering why I'm doing this surgery. I keep looking at my babies and wondering what would life be like for them if I wasn't here. Instead, I've got to look at them and keep remembering how great life is going to be for them WITH me here. I'm going to have more energy to play with them. I can look forward to being around for them well into my old age and theirs! God-willing, my high blood pressure is going to be gone, I won't have such a high risk of getting diabetes, my sleep apnea will probably go away. All that leads to better energy which makes everything better. When are you going to be sleeved?

I was right there with you a few weeks ago. We were watching a series of sermons by Andy Stanley about taking control of your life. I was in the midst of waiting for approval for my surgery. I really started questioning my decision to have surgery. Was I taking responsibility for my life or was I taking the easy way out? Why can't I excercise self-control? After some prayer and thinking, I realized that I am taking responsibility. This is going to take hard work and I will be using self-control because now, more than ever, I will have to make the right choices so that all of this effort will not be in vain. BTW, your surgery is only 9 days after mine (08/18/10). Can't wait to cheer you on this journey!

Thanks for the info Aplus! I spoke to my surgeon's office today and they said that as long as I don't have an abcess and no fever I'm good to go. I got the crown in January. I had one done about 4 years ago and that one was sensitive for about a year, so I think that's what's happening here. Plus, it only hurts when I have something really cold or something sweet. I need to stay away from sweet anyway.

APlus, I'm sorry to hear you're having doubts. I am also pre-op (August 18th is my day!) and having fears, but from what I read here and see on YouTube, everyone has fear to one degree or another as surgery day approaches. May I ask what kind of dental problems your having? I'm having pain in a tooth that I recently got a crown on and am wondering if I should mention it to my doc. I have an appointment to see the dentist, but it's not until August 27th.

We're supposed to be taking a trip to the beach for Labor Day Weekend. I'm hoping to get my surgery scheduled for August 13th. Do you guys think I'll be up for a trip three weeks after my surgery? Also, how long do you think I'll need help? I have 3 small children, age 6, 4 and 2.:001_smile:

I love Zumba! Please make sure you wear some shoes with "slide" to them when doing Zumba. My instructor suggested cross-trainers, tennis shoes or hip hop shoes. I didn't listen to her and hurt my knees because my walking shoes gripped the floor too much. Now I'm on the hunt for wide width hip hop shoes, but have had no luck finding them. I'm scheduled for surgery on August 18th. Maybe after losing some weight, my feet will be able to fit into medium widths and I'll be able to Zumba again!

A question for those that are Post-op
AniO replied to AniO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all of the responses. I just got my surgery date: August 18th. My mom is flying up from PR on August 14th and she'll be with me until September 2nd. We leave to the beach on September 3rd. I went for my preop appt at the surgeon's office yesterday. He said I should be OK to go to the beach on the 3rd as long as I don't get into the Water. Thankfully my hubby is good at caring for the kids. I don't mind lounging by the pool with a good book while he plays with the kids. I've just got to be sure to take plenty of RTD Protein with me. I'll be on Clear Liquids for the 1st two weeks. I'll be starting on full liquids two days before we leave for the beach. He also said no heavy lifting for 2-4 weeks. Thankfully my little one is already in a big boy bed, so I don't have to lift him into bed. I have a few friends that are willing to stop in from time to time to see if there's anything I need help with. Thanks for the info everyone, it's definitely helped me make preparations for my surgery. So glad to have a community to share info with!
