I haven't always been overweight. As a matter of fact, until I had my first child, I was actually underweight. I remember back when I was in school and growing up, I could eat anything I wanted to and not gain a single pound. The day I found out I was pregnant with my first child, I weighed 118lbs. By the time I had my little girl (who isn't so little anymore) I weight over 200lbs. My OB/GYN never told me I was gaining to much weight. He just let me keep gaining and gaining. By the time I had my second child, I weighed atleast 210lbs. Skipping to my older days. I had thought about having the lapband done for around 3 or 4 years. I was to scared to actually have it done though. In 2007 I finally went to a seminar and meet my soon to be surgeon. Dr. Stephen Boyce. By the time he was finished with the seminar, I knew that if I were to have this done, I wanted him to be the one to do it. About a month (if that long) after the seminar, I made an appointment with Dr. Boyce and was in within the next month. I had already done my 6 month pre-op diet and had my so many yrs. of weights and everything else that I needed when I walked into his office for the first time.
Within just a few weeks of my first meeting with Dr. Boyce, I recieved a phone call from one of his Nurses saying I was approved for my lapband with no problems. The cost was paid except for $500.00 which I was glad to pay. A couple weeks after I recieved that phone call, I was sending a check in the mail to his office. About a week after sending my $500.00 check to his office, I recieved another phone call from his office stating my surgery date was set for August 18, 2008. All in the same breath, I was overly excited and yet nervous. But I knew this was something that not only needed to be done, but something I wanted so much to do. Not only for myself but for my family as well.
On the morning on August 18. I remember getting the kids up and ready for school then heading out for my 2 1/2 hour trip to the Hosptial where I was to have surgery. I cried from the moment I set down in the van until they knocked me out. Even the "Happy pills" didn't soothe my nerves. I remember laying on the operating table asking everyone that I saw, who they were, why they were there, and asking them to please make sure I woke up after everthing was said an done.
I don't remember waking up in the recovery room, but I do remember waking up in my room with my wonderful husband sitting in a chair beside me holding my hand. He told me everything went fine and I had done wonderful. The first words out of my mouth were, "I don't want a blood clot, get me up and let me start walking so I wont get one". He grinned and laughed at me, called for the nurse and within the hour, I was up walking around in the halls.
I wont go into details about how the last yr. has went since I have had my band. I will just say this, it hasn't been the easiest road traveled or the funnest road I have ever taken, but one well worth the traveling. I have lost a total of 92lbs. No, I haven't lost as much weight of alot of people have. But I am very satisfied with what I have lost. I know without a shadow of a doubt, that is 92lbs that will never return to this body.
Well, this is pretty much my story. I am 92lbs lighter and alot healthier that I was a little over a yr. ago.
