  1. Hi Mike! Thanks for the kudos! I go in on March 8th for my first fill. It was 4 week since my surgery yesturday (Tuesday). I am suppose to start advancing my diet slowly over the next two weeks by adding meats, soft veggies, skinless fruits....should be to a regular diet in time for my fill and then I think I'll be back on liquids for a day or two! LOL! What is your preop diet like? Will you be on liquids for a few weeks? I think my Dr. is a little strict on the diet compared to others it sounds like! Ah well I'm makin it! Went and spent 45 min on the eliptical today! Honestly the surgery itself went better than I expected. I figured the hard part would be the after surgery part...lol! Well good luck with your day...I will check in on you late next week!

  2. Well good luck with your surgery!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know you will do really well. Will your Dr. have you go home the same day or stay the night? I went in at 6:45am (surgery at 8:45) and was home by 5....and that's with a pharmacy run and to go pick up my daughter at the Boys and Girls club!!! Anyway I will try and send ya a note before then but if not good luck...I have a feeling you will do really well and I'm excited for you!!!!!!

  3. No I really don't have any pain except for every once in awhile a little tinge at the port site but it's rare. A little pressure feeling in my chest sometimes...and that's when I usually know I shouldn't eat any more! It's a learning process that's for sure! I'm still on soft foods although I have been adding small bites of soft meat. usually for lunch I eat a package of tuna fish w/ a laughing cow cheese and maybe some veggie like peas and carrots. I usually have a snack before dinner like 1/2 cup cottage cheese. Tonight I had a 3 oz turkey burger w/ slice lf cheese and some brocolli cooked real well and a small salad...I cut everything into little tiny bites! I find I'm not that hungry at work unless I'm stuck in front of the computer in the afternoons and then I always seem to get hungry! The other day I had meetings all day and was away from my deck and I almost forgot to eat that day! I think that's the head hunger talking more than anything!

  4. Sorry I haven't had a chance to get back with you sooner...work has been really busy latley and my little one (only one) keeps me busy...I'm sure with 3 you are very busy!! Wow...only a week away? That's great. I was excited and nervous at the same time! The closer I got the more on the nervous side I was! I'm sure you will do really well! My honey and I went to our support group last night and there was a guy there that was banded 6 months ago and has lost 50 pounds since the band (he lost 40 before) so he's doing REALLY well! I'm at 4 weeks post op today and have lost about 13 pounds since surgery....I've only lost another 3 pounds since the first week and 1/2 but if you average it out it's over 3 pounds a week so I guess I will take it! That 34 pounds must finally be showing because there have been a ton of people at work telling me I'm looking good :)

My Husband Is Driving me Nuts!

LOL! You guys are too funny! I totally agree I would be pissed if my hubby had brought wings into the house also! My honey keeps his "treats" in his man cave away from my eyes....even before I was banded when I was doing weight watchers I ask him to keep his oreos and what not in his man cave! I don't think that's cruel...it's being supportive. If he was an alcoholic and trying to get clean I wouldn't leave bottles of wine in the fridge or drink it right in front of him...I would want to be supportive in any way I could be! So why wouldn't it be the same for us when we are trying to loose weight and get healthy. I don't keep any kind of junk food in my house...I'm sure my 9 year old would love to have chips and ice cream and what not at her disposal but does she really need all that? The way I look at it is she's not deprived I'm trying to teach her how to eat healthy so that she doesn't end up morbidly obese like her mom! I wouldn't wish that on her and she has my genes so why not try to keep her as healthy as possible. That's not to say she doesn't have junk food at times...she had plenty of candy for valentines day that she ate....but as far as what's in the kitchen and in the cupboards it's all healthy! And her and my honey eat the same meals as I do for the most part! I just got off liquids and I know it's torcher....we did eat soups as a family then too...it didn't kill em and they ate a good dinner! For the OP I'm glad your hubby was understanding after you explained it to him!

    I don't understand!!!

Thanks Dr. W! Great post and really helpful info! Appreciate that!
  7. I use the daily plate to record all my food and track calories/ protien/ water it's pretty neat. You should check it out http://www.thedailyplate.com/ When I did the weight thing on the first page though it said I should eat like 2000 cal a day (to loose 2 pounds a week) I'm like no I can't eat that much so I just changed my daily cals to 1090 since I figured my BMR and how many cals I should have per day to loose 2 pounds a week. Anyway it's a pretty cool web site. Let me know what you think!

  8. Hello! I think it was a combination of eating too much and eating more solid foods Sunday night. I had some vegtable soup, a little bite of corn bread, some chicken salad....so it was probably too much for my stomache to take I guess (was doing great with everything prior to this so I thought it would be ok). I feel much better today! Had 1/2 of a salmon patty w/ a wedge of laughing cow cheese...mushed together and it was fabulous! I've lost a total of 31 pounds....I lost 21 pounds pre-op and another 10 pounds at my 10 day check up...since then I gained about 3 pounds but today I'm back down 2 so that's good! I'm hoping it will keep moving downward! Some of my work colleges have noticed the weight loss (they all know I've had surgery anyway) but it's nice to have it noticed!

How long before back to work??

I took off 9 work day (2 weekends). It was nice to have that much time to recover. I had the time paid so figured I would take it. I think I could have gone back after a week...I was getting a bit bored at home but if you have the time I would say take it!
  10. sorry I haven't gotten back with you sooner. Congrats on your surgery date....not too long now! Do you have a pre-op diet? Exercise has been a little slow for me. I still don't seem to have much energy. I did go to the gym for the first time this last Saturday and did 37 min on eliplical. I've not been consistent though...I really got to get my butt in gear....lol! Hopefully now that I'm able to go to mushies I'll have more energy. I'm still down the same amount....gained a little bit when I started to eat a bit more....and now I'm going back down again slowly!!!! I'm hoping when I can be eating more protein and less carbs I'll be going back down. I am additcted to the scale...haha...I usually weight every morning but I only record it once a week. I've been using the daily plate to record my cals...that works great! Been staying between 800-1100 cals a day. I don't know if I got all the questions but ask again if you'd like...lol! Take care!

  11. Hey Mike! I had been doing great until Sunday...my honey took me out to eat for Valentines Day...I'd been going to mushie type foods and everything was going down fine...but I think I might have pushed it a little and ate a bit too much on Sunday, that night was a little nauseated then the next morning I could only drink about 1/4 a protein shake...tried to take my medication and got a really bad pain and pressure in my chest area!!!! Thought I was going to throw up but I never did thank goodness. I called the dr's and they said I probably advanced a little to fast and put me back on liquids for 2 days :( So tonight I had a 1/2 a salmon patty mushed and a sweet potatoe. Went down fine and tasted wonderful!!!!!

    January 2010 bandsters...

I was thinking the same thing Cherri that you need to have more calories! I also lost 10 pounds on my 2 week post op appt....but I haven't lost anything since. In fact it was that lovley time of month and I accually gained 4 pounds...urgh! I'm slowly loosing that now. I'm with you Tamra I can eat way more than 1/2 cup...I'm still on liquids till 3 weeks post op 2/16/10, and I can eat a cup of soup easily without problems. I did feel kind of sick (too full feeling) when I tried to eat a cup of soup and then a yougurt. I should have waited a while for the yogurt. But I'm usually hungry a few hrs after I eat too. I don't have my first fill till March 8th. Just trying to hang in there now...waiting very impatiently for 2/16 so I can eat some mushie foods!!!!!!
  13. Hey Mike! How are you doing? How was your consultation on the 9th? Did you get your surgery date? Just haven't heard from you in a while and thought I'd checkin and see how your appt went. Hope it went well for you :)

  14. Oh that does sound yummy....can't wait till I can eat it...less than one more week of fluids and I will be trying this!!!!!!

    Recipes

Oh wow they all look wonderful!!!! Course I'm still on liquids, banded 1/26 so everything sounds wonderful right now!!!!! LOL! No I saved them and I'm definietly going to be trying some of them when I can! Thanks!
  17. shannie83301

    I'm so hungry...help???

I feel your pain! I was banded on 1/26/10 also and I am just getting to the point where I'm getting hungry especially in the late afternoon, evening time. My Dr. requires 3 weeks of fulll liquid diet!!!! I eat cream of wheat, that seems to fill me up in the morning. And I have also blended cream soup, cream of chicken, potatoe soup and even bean with bacon soup (this one was really good My blender is super powered and it blends it to smothie consistency. Some of the thicker soups seem to hold me better. I'm sure after 3 weeks I'm going to be so sick of soup....LOL! I also have ff pudding (that's thicker so it helps), applesauce, yogurt and drink lots of water, crystal light and tea. I make myself have a couple protien shakes (or I have the unflavored I can mix w/ soup), althought your right they do kind of taste yuck right now for some reason! It seems to help to add stuff, like I added 1/2 banana and blended to liquid. Also like someone else said the sugar free suyrup is pretty good. Hope that helps! Hang in there....I defiently feel your pain
  18. Hi Mike! Well I'm feeling pretty good today. Mostly my back hurts and a little bit tender at the port site. I'm trying to just take liquid ibuprophen today. I accually already have a gym membership. Before surgery I did the eliptical 35 min going from resitance 1 to 8. I was doing that 2-3 times a week...then I have a recumbant bike at home that I used a couple times a week and walking once a week or so w/ the fam. That's worked out pretty good for me. Not feeling quite strong enough for the gym yet but I think I'm going to try and get on the bike this afternoon. Dinner went well the other night...had a bowl of soup and I did splurge on a hot fudge sundae shotter from Applebees but I couldn't eat it all. Probably not supose to eat but i didn't go over my 800 cals for the day so ah well. I've been doing well getting in my fluids, still a little low on protien and cals/ protien shakes just haven't been appitizin but I did better yesturday.

    January 2010 bandsters...

I was banded on January 26th...feeling pretty good today. I also feel lucky I didn't have the nausea that a lot of people have. I was nauseated right after surgery and one afternoon when I had some light cranberry juice (maybe to acidic I'm thinking) but other than that no nausea. I get a full feeling after I eat like I need to burp or something..lol! I have been burping more than before but nothing comes up  My Dr. also requires 3 weeks of full liquids. So I feel for you Kathyin. Then I have to do 3 weeks of mushie/ soft foods. I think tuna will be tasting great by then So far I'm really not hungry at all in the morning or afternoons. The evening I have been hungry so I have 1 cup of cream soup and then about an hour or 2 later 1/2 cup pudding. It seems to fill me up...just eat it slowly. The most pain I'm having the last couple days is my BACK Aches Really bad!!!! Anyone else have this? The port site hurts a little when I bend over or stand up from sitting position but the back is the worse! I've been walking a couple times a day and using heating pad...that helps a little. Hope everyone is feeling better and well today

    tomorrows the DAY

I'm doing pretty well. Having some little bit of pain to the port site. Right now most of the pain is in my back for some reason. And my leg muscles ache too? Go figure. I don't think I've experienced the squishy feeling your describing. The pain is better than I expected. I'm a little worn out...just tired and don't have a lot of energy but been walking at least 2x a day. Trying to get my protein in and all my fluids. Well hope you all are feeling better soon.
  21. My Dr. told me it was ok to take it postop in liquid form. I had surgery on Tuesday and I've taken it a couple times when I didn't want to take the hydrocodone...it works but it makes me tired and so I have taken the liquid ibuprophen just fine.
  22. I've been walking twice a day since the day I came home. I walk 15 minutes in the am and 15 minutes in pm. Haven't braved the gym yet but I figure the walking is good for now. I still don't have a lot of energy so that works out perfect. I've lost another 4 pounds since my sugrery so w/ pre-op I've lost 25 pounds. That is pretty motivating! I am feeling pretty good today...have only taken 1-half dose of pain medication. We are going to go out to eat w/ some friends...I've already called and they have a soup I can eat so that will be my choice!!!!!! Luckily I haven't really had any cravings so to speak yet. Good luck w/ you consultation on the 9th. How long will it be before your surgery after that? Do you know. I only had to wait about 1 1/2 weeks for surgery after my consultation w/ my Dr! So that happened pretty quickly.

  23. ya I know my dr. is strict on the fluids....I hope I can make it the 3 weeks! Then I'm on 3 weeks mushies...then can start eating regular food. I hope I can make it :) The port site is a lot better. i am a little stiff in the morning but I only took my pain meds once this morning and once toinght. I only take equivalent to 1 tab. I took some liquid ibuprophen this afternoon but mainly cause my back was hurting. My leg muscles are aching too...kind of weird but I think it's ok. The port does hurt when I get up off the chair or bend over...but it stops after I move around a minute. Are u going in soon for you pre-op? What do you have left to do?

  24. I've moved up to full liquids now...I can have cream of wheat, creamy soups (blended), sf pudding, applesauce and protien drinks. Today I had 1/2 c cream of wheat for breakfast, 1 cup bean w/ bacon soup blended w/ 1 scoop protien powder for lunch. In between I try and drink water, light apple juice and crystal light. Getting in my fluids pretty good today. I'm a little hungry this evening but it dosen't take much to fill me up. I have to be on full liquids for 3 weeks!!!!! So I better get used to it huh? lol!

  25. It dosen't really hurt to walk...mostly it hurts at my port site to get up off the chair or bend down. I slept pretty good last night...but I woke up at 6:30 in a lot of pain since I hadn't taken my pain meds since 7pm the night before. I took a dose and walked my daughter up the street 1/2 block to meet her friend to walk to school then went back to bed! Have slept in the recliner...it's better than lying flat....haven't tried that yet but I'm thinking it would hurt. The shoulder pain is trapped gas from the Co2 they put in your belly to blow it up to do the surgery. I have 4 small incision and one larger one where my port is. That's the only one that has really caused me any pain. the others itch. I'm not hungry...haven't been able to get in my 64 oz fluid today...have had about 1/2 of that. I just can't get much down! Hopefully tomorrow I can do more.
