Hello, Had my banding Oct 4th 06'. Have not lost much since the initial weight first couple of weeks post-op. I can eat a just a few bites and feel full. Sometimes I don't think about it and take too big of bites, and don't chew enough. This mostly happens when I don't concentrate about how I am eating, but just falling into the old habits of how I ate before banding. If I wait just a little while I can continue to eat almost a full meal...which in my opinion is too large before I feel restriction again. This happened some month's ago but I was drinking Water to flush the food when it got too uncomfortable. Not doing that now, but the ability of being able to eat shortly after the initial fullness has returned. Do I nee a fill? Or do I need to quit after the initial fullness? Thanks

Hi everyone. I'm 5 days post-op with my band. I see my surgeon, presumably my first fill in 8 more days, but I don't see the Nutritionist for 2 more weeks. Do you think I'm supposed to start with pureed or soft foods after the first week, or do you think they expect you to stay on liquids for the whole 3 weeks post-op before I see the Nutritionist? Getting tired of shakes!

Newly Post Op Diet Progression
heybigguy replied to heybigguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Iwatts, thanks for the info. You've inspired me to call my nutrionist tomorrow. Maybe I can get "permission" to progress. I'm glad it's going well for you. I can see your hesitancy to eat regular again. It's pyscologically been a taboo, and now your allowed to partake in such licentious behavior!! You must've been Catholic or Lutheran to grow up with such ingrained guilt! Anyone...Do you know if when the band is put in , if they put any type of fill in it during the procedure. Or is it totally empty. Wondering what effect each will have on eating soft or pureed/mushy foods at first. Thanks, Al -
Hey Iwatts...Glad to see your back to work, and starting some normalcy in life right out of the chute. I know I lost over 15 lbs. since two weeks before surgery, maybe over 20, but I haven't actually weighed myself. I started a new thread "Newly Post-Op Diet Progression". Voiced some frustrations on there. Mostly sick of liquid diet, but hanging in there by sheer willpower. Six days out now, doing better each day, but looking forward to going back to work next monday. I think this thread has outlived it's immediate purpose, so have to find some others. Let me know if you find another one also that I might find appropriate to our stage of progress. Al

I think I lost 19 lbs on liquids before my surgery, probably another five by now. I posted a thread "Newly Post-Op Diet Progression". Kind of asked, What next! and how soon can I start! Al

Hey oldspark...Had my banding yesturday. Surgical experience was totally positive. The small amount of discomfort in the "port" area is easily taken care of with the Liquid Lortab pain medication given to me. Learning how to drink and belch easily (and silently). Started on shakes with added protein, soup, liquid vitamins, and water. I'm not drinking enough of that because my mouth is very dry. I'm sure I'll get in practice. Hope all is well.

I get banded on Wednesday. I've have the same jitters. Especially when I've been losing weight while on the pre-surgical diet. I just know if I lose weight again without this tool, I will probably max my weight out yet again. I've been a yo-yo for 30 years. That's all it got be was depressed, heart disease, pre-diabetes, decreased motivation, and a wardrobe from 34 waist to 50. I'm nervous but hopeful. My problem is not losing the weight...I'm an expert on that. It's changing habits, and not caving in to getting that full feeling of a meal well prepared and enjoyed..over and over and over.....and then gaining more weight again. I gotta do this! Good Luck, heybigguy

I get banded in 3 days. I've had those questions when I've been losing weight while on the pre-surgical diet. It has to be a decision one is comfortable with. If you decide not to band, at least be sure you'll be able to make the life-long changes also. My problem is not losing the weight...I'm an expert on that.
