  1. Hi. I had my first fill on sept. 7. I have very little restriction. I can eat almost everything and I try to keep my portions small, but I may have overdone it the past few days (my birthday). Now I feel sick. I'm completely nauseated. I can still eat food, although I'd rather not. I feel like something's wrong. I'm drinking protein shakes for the next couple days to get some nutrition without having to swallow solid foods. Should I call my doctor? Or should I just let it go and see what happens. Has this happened to anyone? I'm really worried that something is seriously wrong.
  2. Thanks. My RN friend says it's probably food poisoning. But just in case, I'll call my md on Monday.

  4. Today is my 8th day out and I'm STARVING. I started to feel hungry yesterday, had a headache all day and everything. I can't start mushies till next monday. I literally dreamt of pureed foods last night. lol
  5. I cheated on my pre-op diet ALL weekend and I feel awful. Besides that my stomach is mad at me, I feel so guilty. I feel like such a failure. Thank goodness I've seen the light, but I am soooo worried. My surgery is 1 week from today and I'm worried my liver won't be small enough to do the surgery. What am I gonna do?? What if they turn me away?? Is there any way to shrink my liver in 1 week??? Please help! I'm desperate

    I cheated! Please help! :(

Hi Everyone! I'm Banded!! I just wanted to post an update. My surgery was on Monday 8/9/10. My doctor knew I cheated and he was ok with it. When I came to, the first thing I asked was if my liver was small enough. He answered "It could have been smaller, but I managed." lol Everything went very smoothly, My nursing staff was amazing and now I'm at home resting and healing. They you all again for your support and advice. I really appreciate it :w00t:

    August 2010 anyone?

Hi August Bandsters! I was just banded yesterday and I couldn't be happier! I'm so glad surgery day is over. Now comes the hard work. I'm so ready to take this on! It's very exciting! Good luck to all of you!

    I cheated! Please help! :(

Thank you all for your support!! I have 4 days left and am doing much better. I write a big "NO" on the top of my hand every day to remind myself not to reach for any food. I know that's silly, but it helps me. Today has been much easier. I don't crave any food and I'm not as hungry. I will call my doctor's office tomorrow morning just to make sure. I hope everything goes okay on Monday. I think 4 days is enough to shrink my liver enough. I'm still nervous though. I'll let you all know what happens on Monday! Wish me luck!
  9. Those of you who cheated: Did they go ahead with the surgery and was it successful? I don't see a lot of you posting that your surgery went okay. And there aren't any tickers to let me know you were banded successfully. I have 4 days left of my 2-week liquid pre-op diet. I did cheat last weekend when i went out of town. But I'm completely back on track and hope everything goes well next Monday. I've lost 10 lbs so far, but my head hasn't been in the right place and I'm kind of disappointed in myself. I know I could have done much better. BUT...I refuse to fail these last 4 days. I even wrote a big "NO" on the top of my hand to remind me not to let the voices win and not to cheat. lol I know that's silly, but it works for me.
  10. hey :) I'm actually having my surgery in Joliet. I work there. My surgeon is Dr. Mihalakakos at Provena St. Joe's. You?

    Average age of a Bandster?

Hi! I'm also 28 (almost 29) and I'm getting banded in 2 weeks. I've been considering it for a couple years and finally took the plunge this year. I didn't want to still be fat at 30. So I'm gonna spend the last year of my 20's rebuilding
  14. Hi !I am scheduled to be banded on Aug. 9th (in 2 weeks:scared2:) and I will be off of work for 1 week. Most people I've spoken with and asked have said they were off of work for 1-2 weeks. Those who lift a lot at work were off a little longer. Good luck!

    Hair loss and my answer!!

Thank you so much for posting this! Hair loss after being banded worries me a lot. I will look into the biotin or b12 injections. Thanks again!
  17. HI! I'm from Illinois. being banded in 2 weeks (Monday August 9th). I'm excited for all of us starting our new lives!

    Today is my day!

My surgery is in 2 1/2 weeks and I'm comfortable with the OR and hospital too since I work there. I'm excited for you! Let us know how it went! Good luck!
  19. Hi everyone I don't lift things at work, but I do walk a lot - about 12,000-14,000 steps at work each day. my surgery is on a Monday, Aug 9th, and i plan on going back to work on Wed, Aug 18th (a little over a week later). In your opinion, is that enough? My doctor says if I don't feel well, he'll ok an extra week off, but I really can't afford to be off work that long, so I'm hoping one week is enough. I was just wondering how long some of you were off post-op. Thanks!
  20. I've lost weight before with diet and exercise and my stretch marks stayed the same. Vitamin E and Maderma help, but I don't think they'll get much better unless you see a dermatologist or an aesthetician.

When did you return to work?

Thanks guys! I appreciate it! I'll let you know how it goes. I work 7 days on/7 days off, so I'm technically not taking any extra time off of work. I'm confident Ill be fine now. Thank you again!
  22. Yes, the rate of mortality is very slim for lap-band patients. I drilled my surgeon about all the possible risks and have read as much info as I could find. As long as you are a relatively healthy person, the risk is slim and success rate is high. Tell your family that you have done all the research and you know that the pros outweigh the cons. Tell them that you are at risk of dying if your stay at an unhealthy weight. If you really want this, you definitely need to be aware of the possible risk involved (as with any other major surgery). But if you've exercised and eaten healthy and tried every other avenue to lose the weight and it still hasn't happened for you, then this is an excellent option for you. It's absolutely the right option for me. My family was weary too, but they know I know what's right for myself and they support me. I hope that this helps and I hope it works out for you!
  23. HEY BANDSTERS! I just came back from an appointment with my surgeon and I am now scheduled to be banded on August 9th! I start my liquid diet on July 26th. I'm SO excited and yet scared at the same time. I do have some questions that slipped my mind while I was talking with my doctor, though, that maybe you can help me with (I must have been nervous because my mind went completely blank). 1. My doctor says he's extremely aggressive with therapy and wants to do the first fill two weeks post-op. I've read tons of threads and still haven't seen anyone get a fill that soon. Does that seem too soon?? I'm not saying I don't completely trust my surgeon, because I do. I'm just curious. 2. I'm nervous. Really nervous. I'm nervous about being nervous and that makes me nervous:scared2:. I'm nervous about my liquid diet, Surgery Day, the day after surgery, etc. I'm usually quite laid back and I don't worry about many things, but this has my stomach flipped inside out. Should I be this nervous? I realize it's healthy, smart, and normal to have some reservations about having major surgery, but my emotions border on cold feet (and having cold feet makes me nervous lol). 3. Surgery Day: My surgeon wants me to spend the night in the hospital. I have two questions. A) What should I bring to the hospital that day? and  how did you prepare for surgery the night/week/hours before? 4. Last, but certainly not least , is there anyone scheduled for surgery on the same day or on that week? I'd love to hear from you! Thank you in advance for your help!

    Second Thoughts????

I'm so glad you asked this question. I'm almost done with the pre-approval process (haven't done the sleep study yet) but every once in a while i get second thoughts. Do I really want this? Is this what's best for me?, etc. I'm trying to remain steadfast in my decision to do this, but sometimes the fear of the unknown takes over. What if something goes wrong? Is this TOO big a change for me and/or will it actually work for me? What if I go through all of this and not lose any weight or gain it all back within a couple years? I have a million doubts swimming around in my brain, but at the end of the day, when i walk up a flight of stairs and am out of breath, or look in a full-body mirror, or see my doctor and she tells me my cholesterol is dangerously high, I know that I'm making the right decision. If something goes wrong after my surgery like slippage, it can always be fixed. If i gain some weight back, I can always lose it again. It's worth the leap if it means a much better quality of life for you. So that's what I hold onto - the hope that my life will be better and healthier after I do this.

    psych evaluation

My psych eval is scheduled for next monday. I am completely freaked out by it.:w00t: I'm so glad you asked this question! I'm hoping it goes ok. I think everything should check out fine because I really feel like I am finally emotionally ready for the surgery, but there's always that fear going into every new test. Good luck!
