Help! Getting Banded on Monday and still haven't chosen a protein shake!
Paigey replied to boricuanessa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So far, I really like the Unjury best. I hate the premixed shakes of any variety. -
Shoot, I'm just glad I'm finally able to keep some of this hot tea down. It's not all staying down, but about every other sip will. I'm wondering if I can get the same effect by just heating my gatorade up in the microwave so I don't get dehydrated?

How often do you exercise
Paigey replied to ICUnurserachel's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm only 3 1/2 weeks post op, but I try to go to my local park and walk their fitness track every day after work. On the weekends, I just don't have time for it. -
Thanks. Just got off the phone and they told me to try warm liquids because that sometimes helps. I just made myself some hot tea, so if it doesn't work, I'll have to go back in and get some fill taken out.

should I just stop sniffing this trail???
Paigey replied to made4more's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As someone else said, make sure you get a sleep study. I knew I had some sleep apnea, but I had no clue how bad it was. Also, acid reflux counts, as does joint pain. -
Thank you, PitPat :w00t: I do feel better today, but I think it's going to still be a little rough as far as keeping anything substantial down. Last night, I was feeling pretty poorly, so I didn't think to tell you guys the good part. When they took my vitals yesterday, they were better than they had been in a long time. My blood pressure was actually good instead of high, 108/62 and my pulse was down to 88. My pulse hasn't been below a hundred in almost ten years!

How is everyone doing? I just had my first fill today and I am miserable. Hopefully, I'll be able to keep some liquids down by tomorrow.
-
I got my first fill this morning. It was 2 CCs. So far, I can't keep any liquids down. I'm assuming this is normal for the first time and I'm hoping I'll be able to at least get half a protein shake down by tonight.

Letter of medical necessity from Doctor
Paigey replied to Amanda1982's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon's office had a pre typed letter and my pcp just had to fill in the blanks. You might want to ask your surgeon if he/she has anything similar. -
Had Surgery Oct 7 2010 - Scrape in mouth
Paigey replied to PuppyBandit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had one after my surgery too and I asked my doctor about it. He said I had a small mouth and they had to use some kind of contraption to hold my mouth open to intubate me during the surgery. I guess that's where it was pressed or something and I didn't think to ask more. -
I have UHC and as soon as my doctors office got the okay, we were able to schedule the surgery for two weeks out.

Growling Stomach???
Paigey replied to nomorejellybelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Haha! Mine does it all the time. I'm never really hungry now, but my stomach just goes and goes and it's loud enough for people in the cubicles next to mine to hear it when I'm at work. -
Just Can't Drink these Shakes!
Paigey replied to Angel76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unjury also has a chicken soup flavored protein that's pretty good. I've used it in a few Soups and sauces. I'm getting ready to order the unflavored Unjury too, so I can try it in yogurt, cottage cheese and stuff like that. -
Just Can't Drink these Shakes!
Paigey replied to Angel76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What kind of shakes are you drinking? Are they the kind that are already mixed in a bottle or do you mix them yourself? A lot of the protein shakes really are nasty, but I've found a few that I can tolerate and even like. Anything premixed that you can just buy in the bottle tastes horrible to me, but I've grown to like Carnation Instant Breakfast(No sugar added), Unjury, and one of the brands that I found at Walmart. I mix mine with fat free milk and that makes a huge difference. -
2 weeks post op-what were you eating?
Paigey replied to babyk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am now two weeks post op and just started with the mushies in the last couple of days. I am still starting my day off with a Protein shake. I think it helps me to control any hunger pangs I might get before lunchtime. I've been able to tolerate most soups, but only in small quantities. I tried some homemade mac and cheese and that did okay for me, but I should have stopped about to two spoons before I actually did. Sometimes it feels like there is a rock sitting right between my breasts in my chest. Cottage cheese with a little salt and pepper is very filling, as is the Yoplait 100 calorie yogurts. If I am still hungry or just want to eat, I either have a sugar free popsicle or sugar free Jello. I've printed out several crock pot recipes that I'd like to try this week, but I'm really just scared to eat. It feels like the band is stopping me from eating too much, but since I haven't had a fill yet, I wonder how much of it is real and how much of it is just in my head. -
How long did it take from the time you decided to get banded to your surgery date?
Paigey replied to Amanda1982's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me about a year to get my lap band. I went to my first seminar in September, 2009 and had my surgery on September 28th, 2010. -
Congratulations! I am so glad that everything went well for you. Keep us posted and make sure you don't get dehydrated. I've been doing my post op liquid diet, but I am slowly transitioning to the mushies. I'm actually scared of the mushies because I fear I'll start gaining weight before I have my first fill on 10/21.

Good luck tomorrow! And thank you everyone for your condolences. My heart aches so bad for my sister and nephews.

laparoscopic versus incision procedure--which did you have?
Paigey replied to SPARKLES10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was laproscopic, but I only have two small scars. One through my belly button and one just under the middle of my breasts. -
You should be able to call your insurance company and just ask them if they cover this kind of procedure.

Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!
Paigey replied to Brian-LA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was looking for you guys! Yesterday was my first day that I was able to keep my fluids down. I went for my post op visit today and am very dehydrated. I wasn't surprised because because I knew I had not been drinking like should since it came right back up again. Dr. Gorjala wanted me to go have IV fluids at the hospital, but since I am able to drink today, I asked him to let me see if I could do it on my own with gatorade and my other drinks. I go back tomorrow morning, so I am hoping things will be better by then. I tried to go back to work yesterday and could only make it for half a day and went home at lunch. I am taking the whole day off today, but might try half days for the rest of the week. On a positive note, I lost at least 10 pounds since the day of my surgery. My personal goal is to be less than 200 lbs by Halloween. -
recovering diet coke addict...
Paigey replied to jen1014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had already weaned myself off of soda before my surgery, but let me tell you, an icy Cherry Coke Zero is the only thing I have craved since my surgery. -
OVER IT and I dont think I am getting enough fluids!!!!
Paigey replied to BlessedMama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are not alone in this for sure. I had my surgery on 9/28 and yesterday was the very first day I could keep any fluids down. I went in this morning for my post op visit and was severely dehydrated. My doctor wanted to send me over to the hospital for IV fluids, but since I am finally able to keep my fluids in me, I asked him to give me another day and see how that works out. One thing I've realized is that every patient is different. I read so many positive posts and threads here, that I just had in my head that I'd sail through this procedure with a minimum of problems. Boy was I dreaming! I am still glad I had the procedure done and I am hoping that each day that passes, it will be easier. -
The last week was pure emotional torture. Between the funeral and my surgery, it's just been really hard. Yesterday was the first day I could keep fluids down and didn't have to carry my little throw up cup everywhere I went. I've lost another ten pounds since surgery, but when I went for my post op check up this morning, I was very dehydrated. My doctor wanted to send me over to the hospital to get IV fluids, but since I'm finally able to keep fluids down, I asked him to give me another day of drinking gatorade to see if that helps. I really thought this was going to go so smoothly after reading here, but good lord, was I wrong.
