I had my lapband placed on 3/21/10. I am looking for a supprt group that meets in the Spring or Woodlands area (of Texas). Does anyone know of a group that meets in the evenings? I work during the day. Thank you Rita

I talked to the surgeon's office yesterday and thay have set up my surgery for Monday, March 22nd!! Anybody else having surgery on this date? My surgery is being performed by Dr. Kenneth Hollis. Rita

Would it be a problem to get both? Right now I am on the liquid stage before mushies and I am eating and drinking no more than 500 calories a day. Last week I lost 3 pounds.

I was banded on March 22nd. I start mushies next week and I was just wondering if you could tell me what your typical day of food/drink consisted of? When do you eat, how much and what do you eat? When and what are you drinking? How many calories a day are you eating and drinking? Thanks, Rita

I had my surgery on March 22nd. The day after surgery I had GAINED 9 POUNDS! They tell me it was swelling and I was retaining the fluid they pushed before and after surgery. Today, 4 days after surgery I am back down to were I was before surgery 229. I had lost 11 pounds in 11 days on the preop diet. I am moving with no problem today, getting in and out of bed with no problem. I only took pain meds the first night home. I am very hungry and I really find I miss chewing. Does anyone else miss chewing while on the liquids? I start mushies on Monday, one week after surger.

Okay, I'm glad it is normal. My duaghter kept telling me it was all the fluids they pumped into me and the gas and also the swelling that made the scale go up. I can tell I still have air in my stomach becuase it is swollen. I took a walk this morning and plan on taking another one this afternoon. How are you doing on the liquid diet? I got to have a protein shake today and was really glad about that but I am relly looking forward to some mushies!

Hi everyone! I had my surgery on Monday and things went fine. The sea sick patch is still messing with my eyes so excuse me if I make mistakes in my typing, eveeything is very blurry. Dr. Hollis found a large hiatal hernia while he was in there and reparied it. I pretty much slept from the time I got home Monday until Tuesday. Got out and went to the doctor with my duaghter on Tuesday and walked around CVS while waiting on a prescription. Tuesday I used Extra Strength Tylenol for pain and today I have not used anything. I just got back from a very slow 30 min walk. What I am disappointed about is that between the morning when I weighed in for surgery and this morning I have GAINED 6 pounds. Is this normal? I don't remember anyone else talking about this. If no one else has had this I may call the doctor today. It really dissapoints me. Rita

Speaking of emotions. I seem to be forgetting or overlooking things a lot. I searched for an e-mail address everywhere yesterday and finaly had to go ask someone for it and then it turned out it was on a sheet of paper I had looked at. I am usually a very detailed person and this is unlike me. I am not allowed anything extra. Two Protein shakes a day and that one small meal. I have to drink 64oz of Water a day. I find if I don't I start get leg cramps which is my cue that I am getting dehydrated. I have to say that I really have not done bad on the diet. I have not been starving, maybe hungry, but not starving. I will have a test this weekend though. My daughter turns 18 on Sunday and we are doing a huge family get together to Celebrate. My family is Italian and if you are celebrating there is a TON of food!

I started my preop diet on March 12th. I get 2 Protein shakes a day with fruit mixed in and for dinner I get 4oz of meat, 1 cup of green veg and 1 cup of fruit. I have lost 6 pounds in 5 days. My problem is that I forgot to bring my Protein Drink with me to work today. I afraid I am going to mess up and ruin my weight loss streak if I eat something at lunch but I know I can't make it all day until 6pm tonight to eat again. I had my Breakfast shake at 6:30am this morning. Any adivce?

I'm just wondering, how long from the time you got your insurance approval until the surgery was scheduled? My insurance approved me on March 8th. The surgeons office told me to start my pre-op diet on March 12th but today is the 17th and they still have not called me to give me a date! Now I am getting frustrated. I started this prosses on Sept. 23, 2009 and had a 6 month waiting period mandated by my insurance company.

Six month waiting period
rldm replied to vdavenport's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had to do 6 months of evaluations, dietician appts. etc. I did my 6th appt on Feb 23rd and my information was sent to the insurance on the 24th. My insurance approval came back on March 8th. I am on my preop diet now and waiting for the surgeon's office to give me a date for surgery. What I did for the 6 months is bought beautiful, small plates for myself and started eating off of them. I also bought small silverwear, really baby silverwear and started using that. I stopped eating in front of the tv and tried to get my Water intake to where it needed to be. I also started trying Protein shakes to see with ones I liked and which ones were just horrible. Believe it or not you will appreciate these 6 months. It will give you time to start changing the way you think about food and how you eat. I promise that the time will go by much faster than you think it will. Hang in there! Rita -
Aquarius12459, I took your adives and the first thing I did when I got home last night was put some extra drinks in my work bag. I now have two in my desk drawer incase that ever happens again. So simple and yet I didn't think of it. Thanks, Rita

I started my preop diet this past Friday. Today is Sunday and I cannot get warm. My hands feel like ice and I am walking around with a sweater on and still feel cool. Has anyone else every experienced this on the pre-op diet. Rita

Unfortunately, I commute an hour into work everyday so ride a van in. I did find out we have a small Smoothie King on site but they only have some of the options. I found one that has the protein I need but it has 300 calories in it and my shakes are 100 calories each. I guess with no other options I will have to do it but man I am kicking myself for having to have the extra 200 calories!

Thanks for all of the replies! I am so glad that others have experienced the same thing. Normally I am very hot natured, all the time. My daughter complains about freezing all the time but now she is complaining about being hot and I am sitting there with a sweater on!

I have completed my 6 months of evaluation, diet, testing and nutritional counseling and just got word that my insurance has approved my surgery!! I am beyond excited! I am waiting on a phone call from the surgeon's office, Dr. Hollis, to call me and set up an appointment. I am wondering if I go ahead and start my preop diet now will I still have to wait 2 weeks AFTER I meet with him to get my surgery? I am ready to move this along!! Also, if anyone has any advice I would love to hear it! Thanks, Rita

I have BCBS of Texas through MD Anderson Cancer Center and I have been told they will pay, IF I meet certain criteria. Is anyone here from the Houston area? I will be going for my 3rd appt this week. BCBS requres 6 appointments before they will consider the surgery.
