Severe Port Pain When Standing or Walking
Family First posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded almost 2 weeks ago. This afternoon I started having pretty severe port area pain when I stand and try to walk. It has started to get allot worse. So I called my doctor at 8pm and he said that it was definitely the port and I probably bumped or hit it. He said he can see me tomorrow afternoon after all his surgeries or I can wait until Friday morning. The only thing he said I can do right now is rest and apply ice packs and the liquid Loratab he prescribed for surgery pain. It freakin hurts like hell when I try to stand. Has this happened to anyone else? -
hiatal hernia
Family First replied to karmaandkismet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Been there, done that, got the pictures to prove it. I knew I had a hiatal hernia before going into surgery. He repaired it and then did the band. He said it was a "massive hernia". The shoulder pain is from the hernia repair. Pain diversion or something like that. Good luck. -
Severe Port Pain When Standing or Walking
Family First replied to Family First's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am feeling 100% better than last week this time. While I was at the doctors last week he poked around the port area. I woke up the next morning and twisted the get the remote control and felt like someone snapped me in the belly with a rubber band. After that I started feeling SO much better. I am thinking it was scar tissue and it released from right under my skin. Thank you for your responses. -

May 10-14 Banders--How's it going? Share.
Family First replied to anglov's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All - My recovery is definately slower than I expected. I honestly thought I would be back to work today. I feel completely drained when I start moving around. Also, the Dr put my port right above my belly button in the crease of my stomach. He has this clear tape that is about 4x6 inches over the top of gauze that is on top of the port area. That makes the top of my stomach stick up and out. Weird looking. And painful area. Question - I had surgery last Thursday, May 13. Is it too early to go back to work. I have a desk job. -

I was banded yesterday. The port area is swollen and I am sore. I have only been drinking water. I will try some broth in a little bit. Tomorrow I start full liquids. At this point I am not hungry. I only have a shoulder pain every now and then. -
May 10-14 2010 Bandsters
Family First replied to lisagus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone. I am glad to see postings from everyone who has had their procedure this week. I got banded yesterday at 10am and was home by 6pm. Rumors are true...very sore. I completely agree with the walking advise. The biggest pain is getting up from the bed or couch. He also repaired a hernia. I slept pretty good last night. I elevated my head and laid on my back. I cannot lay on either side. It feels like everything is pulling. I am on liquids until tomorrow and that is when I go to thicker liquids. I want to give a shout out to the nurses at Memorial Hospital Jacksonville Florida. It was the most pleasant hospital experience I have had. They were by my side through the entire day. The nicest people. The hospital also has free valet parking. We are sort of like groupies now. I think I am going to make a t-shirt that says "I'm with the BAND". Has a thread been started under the next forum for us May10-14 peeps? -

May 10-14 2010 Bandsters
Family First replied to lisagus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I officially and not intentionally scared the crap out of my husband and 7 year old daughter tonight. It kind of started at work when I was shutting down my computer. The thought came to me that tomorrow I start liquids and then on Thursday I will be having surgery. I started to freak out a little so I walked out into an open office knowing that I would calm down once I got around people. The ride home was okay, the radio was my friend. So I thought that "OMG" feeling left when all the sudden I knocked a cup over on the counter while I was cooking dinner. I went totally ballistic. Backed myself into the corner of the kitchen. That made everything worse. I was trapped. I ran to my bathroom fell to the floor and started crying like a baby. I was crying like someone died. My poor innocent daughter walked in where I was a saw my condition. She RAN to her room crying and scared to death. I could hear my husband trying to calm her down. Then he came into check on me. He was perfect. He asked all the right questions - Is there something I can do? Do you think you are a little nervous about the surgery? Next thing I knew he was on the floor beside me calmly talking to me and putting his arm around me. He made me feel so much better. I knew there was a reason we have been married 26 years. Had to share my mental break down with the world. -

I am also scheduled for May 13th. I am feeling the same way you are about a lifestyle overhaul. My doc put me on a preop diet of 30mg carb's a day. The rest meat and veggies. Then liquids only Tuesday and Wednesday. He also said NO snacking between meals. It hasn't been too bad. He said he is trying to get my body to go into ketosis (spelling sucks). I am in a little funk right now. I think I am mourning my carbs. :frown:Sometimes they have been my BFF. You know the saying "with friends like that who needs enemies". Oh well BYE BYE CARBS. It was nice knowing you. Good luck to us all. -
What if you are on blood thinners?
Family First posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been on blood thinners for 2 years. I broke my foot and was laid up for a few days. This is when I developed a DVT and pulmonary embolism. It appears blood clots run in my family. Lucky me. Anyway, does anyone know if or when they will take me off the pills prior to surgery? I have a preop appt 5/3 at the hospital and preop with the surgeon on 5/5. I will ask then but in the mean time I thought I would ask ya'll. -
Any May 2010 Bandsters?
Family First replied to Quinny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was approved 4/26 and got the phone call today telling me my surgery in scheduled for 5/13. I go for pre-op at the hospital 5/3 and pre-op with the surgeon on 5/5. At that time they will give me the information for my pre-op diet. I was upset a few weeks ago because it seemed like the surgeons office was dragging their feet on submitting the paperwork. Now I am nervous that it is coming up so fast. You just can't please this girl. -
So excited!!!! Got approved!
Family First replied to Lique24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats Lique24 - I also have Aetna insurance. My paperwork was sent to them on April 20. I called on April 22 to check the status and she said it looks good so far and that I could call every afternoon to check the status. I called yesterday and she said they just approved it. Spoke with the surgery coordinator at my surgeons office and said they have to wait for the official call but penciled me in for pre-op May 3 and surgery on May 13. FAST!!! :scared2: -

Please don't talk like this. Do you have a family member or a church friend you can talk to? I wish there was something I could do to help you. -
I guess my PCP record department does not care about it's patients or the do not know what the acronym ASAP means. My surgeon is putting the package together to send to my insurance for approval. I have completed everything needed/requested from my insurance (Aetna PPO for DOD employees). Just completed the 3 month physician supervised weight loss. My surgeons office requested, in January, a copy of my health records for 2005-2010. My PCP only sent 2006-2010. I went to their office on March 30 and requested they fax the required documents. I was "assured" that it would be completed by the next Tuesday. I figured that was great because I was to have my 2nd appt with my surgeon the following Wednesday. When I arrived at my surgeons office they informed me that they had not received the fax. Needless to say I was pissed. I was so upset with her that I became one of those people that I do not like. Bitch!!! Well on the way home I called my PCP and they proceeded to tell me that they were unable to fax the records because they are in the archives located in another building and have sent for them. SO, after 8 days they had not received them yet?? I asked her when were they requested from the archives and she assured me they were requested the day after I put in my request. Yeah, right!! Well, long story short...crow does not taste very good. I called my surgeons office and apologized to the insurance clerk. She was just as pissed at the PCP office as I was. It is now 2 weeks after requesting my records. They were finally going to fax the documents yesterday to the surgeon. I am still not sure if they received them because when I called the insurance clerk the answering service picked up and said they closed their office early today. Did they fax them?? Did she file with my insurance company for approval?? There goes another day wasted. Don't these people understand that every minute of every day matters to a person with a food addiction? I cannot tell you how many times I have wanted to use these delays as "excuses" to go to Dairy Queen and order a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard. I just needed to vent to people who understand. Thank you for listening.

I am SO impatient!!!
Family First replied to Family First's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
lotusflwr - How long did the approval take with Aetna? I called my surgeons office today and asked when did they send my paperwork. AHHHHHHH They haven't sent it yet. She thinks they might get to it before Friday. Deep breaths. I have to keep reminding myself that Rome was not built in a day and my ass did not get this size over night. All good things come to those who wait. -
