Canadians Only Please! - Do you take your shoes off?
green replied to argon's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yup, a pile of shoes and a pile of bras just inside the front foyer. :bounce: lol -
Do You? You know use that word!
green replied to SlimTarnishedDiva's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The N-word is a toxic word because not only was it originally used by one race in order to disrespect another race but it is also tethered to a heinous history of slavery. When Black people choose to use this word what they are doing, in my opinion, is "owning" or "taking back" a profoundly poisonous word. This word belongs to them and no one else. It is up to them as to whether they wish to use it or not. No one else has that right! -
Yup. Perfect pronounciation. :clap2::clap2::clap2:

Um, that is called Schadenfreude, a German word which we have made our own. Roughly translated it means taking pleasure in someone else's misery, a feeling which we all share. It is normal to find satisfaction when those who have been tormenting us have Very Bad Things happen to them. There is no single word in English which expresses this feeling and that is why we have pinched the German word, Schadenfreude. As to how this should be pronounced, ask around; your best bet for a reliable answer will likely be those people who do speak some German.

Congratulations on your weight loss, Chris. :clap2:

Sometimes I call rude men "princess." They don't like that. -

Haha. :heh: Grrlfriend, when I come to visit you I am going to go all crazy Canuck on you and pull off my shoes. :faint: It's a bonus to hear that I will be able to ditch the bra because I hate wearing them, too. I only wear 'em in company out of sensitivity to others. :phanvan -
What if you explained that some investment made in their names and fewer prezzies now might mean that the kids would receive something very, very nice when they are teenagers: a car or a university education? A downpayment on a house? A trip to Europe? Something that the kids would flip over?

Reflux and antidepressants - poll
green replied to YankeesFan's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I take Wellbutrin WL, Selexa, and Topamax. I was banded early Sept 2006 and had no problem with acid reflux until this June. I think this might have been kicked off by an overfill. :phanvan -
Do you eat 800 to 1200 calories per day? Please Come In!!
green replied to marieze's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think I eat between 1,200 and 1,500/day. -
I am completely happy with the results of my band. I tried going the excercise route and ended up with firm fat. Within 10 months I went from wearing size 18W pants to wearing size 10 and from wearing a 3X top (I used to need a baggy top because I was ashamed of my body) to an XL. It has been a little over a year now and my size 10 pants are a little bit loose. This is pretty exciting for me. I had the surgery when I was 57 and had a very short recovery time.

By the way, I have picked up the information which I have just posted through reading articles about nutrition in one of the local newpapers.
-
Most of the food you mention is really good for you. Yams are loaded with nutrients which can be difficult to find in many other foods. Beans are an excellent source of fibre. And spinach is low in calories and one of the best single sources of nutrition around! And both skinless chicken and fish are great sources of Protein. Nutritionists say that the best food is the food which is prepared from fresh ingredients. It seems to me that if you reduce the amount of rice, flour, and oil you will do very well on an African diet.

I always take my shoes off for I am Canadian. And I don't like wearing shoes, eh. -
What are your favorite, but hated Stereotypes...
green replied to SlimTarnishedDiva's topic in Rants & Raves
I am a natural strawberry blonde who worked for years building aircraft and was treated like a bimbo. I had a lot of fun using this stereotype to my advantage once I got over my initial frustration with it. I did go through a period of dying my hair red and during that time the men quickly forgave me my hissy fits. They used to say "what can you expect? Redheads had tempers." :heh: And so I got to profit from another stereotype. -

I was once of those who voted never. Up here in Canada the N-bomb has always been considered a racist term which was used in the American south. Now our Black kids use the term amongst each other but it is still off-limits for everyone else. This makes sense to me. (I do, however, use the C-word from time to time. :heh:) -
Yes, a big congratulation from me, too.
-
Wow! What a waste! Can your husband talk some sense into them? A prezzie and a savings bond would make much more sense on every level, including ecologically. Maybe if he told them that you end up giving some of the stuff away.......simply because there is too, too much?

Bummer. So how do you feel about Xmas as an adult? Love it? Or not?

Apple, no one has ever said that a 19 year old is dumb, only inexperienced is all. You do sound unusual; you sound like you really have your life together. Many 19 year olds do not and I am sure you know that. And your parents sound like they have a wonderful marriage. This is really great. My own parents were still boning each other when they were senior citizens. Many people do have successful marriages. But this is a thread where people have come to discuss their problems with their relationships and I was attempting to point out to you that sexual problems can be caused by other problems than homosexuality or infidelity. I am sorry if I offended you. This was not my intention.

Face work - how to find a surgeon?
green replied to TerriDoodle's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Everything that I have had done, the band and the face lift, was paid for by inherited money. My mum died 2 years ago. I have heard that it is possible to pay much less up here in Toronto but I didn't want to risk my face. I have also heard that some of the best plastic surgeons in the world are in Brazil. It seems that Brazilian women have long been into cosmetic improvements. I don't know whether this would be a cheaper alternative. There is Mexico. This is something Wasa might know about. She is getting her TT done there. Why don't you PM her for some input? -
Grrl, I swear I will phone you this weekend. And I am verrrry pleased to hear that the grrl car is still running. Maybe we can do coffee on Sunday????

Nope, Indio, don't watch All My Children. I won't watch any telly at all before 7 PM at the earliest. After 7 PM I won't answer the telephone. Haha. I am a real prime time TV junkie. And thanx, Enterprise, for your input on the boobs question. I really appreciate it. And I can see that if you are wide-hipped then you will want larger boobs in order to balance out your shape. I still do think that many women have opted to turn themselves into cartoon-like women by choosing to have really big tits installed. I can understand wanting have 'em hauled up from hanging around the waist, though. This was why I had a face lift. -
Congratulations to you, Argon, to you, Donna D, and to you, Lisa in TO. You all are now a bunch of little skinny pants! And this is absolutely fab. :girl_hug:ies from Green. I am still crawling around the house trying to recover from a) the aftershock of the facelift and the cold from Hell!!!!!! I must say that the face and neck do look really snazzy but this has been the toughest thing, physically speaking, that I have ever put myself through. Ouch! Of course I do have the pain threshhold of a man. On the other hand, while it takes me months to recover from a simple cold I usually do bounce back from surgery very quickly. Once again, big congrats and hugs. :biggrin1:

I totally get what you are saying - my husband likes this shitty time of the year - and I can completely relate to your husband's misery. Please be kind to him. You have no idea as to just how painful Xmas can be for folks like me. The other hideous time of the year for me is my birthday and this has nothing to do with my age. My idea of getting through a Xmas or a b'day is to be lying in bed covered with morphine patches until the day is all over. (Oooh, I think my annual bitterness is starting to leak out. My apologies.)
